    gas went up ANOTHER four cents today!

    Sunoco at Rhawn and Berree in NE Philly:

    RUG = $3.89

    Plus = $3.99

    Ultra = $4.15

    I guess the scumbags are using the incident in Libya as an excuse this time despite the fact we import NO OIL from Libya! :mad:

    last fill-up was for $3.84 for 87 octane, other places were anywhere from $3.94 to $4.13. At the Shell near work it starts off at $4.26 on Mondays then by Friday it's $4.13 - has been doing that for the past month.

    Last month's road trips to IA and early this month through the southern states saw prices as cheap as $3.65 in IA and as low as $3.50 in AL to as high as $3.96 in KY & TN.

    This was still cheaper than Merriville, IN. prices of $4.10 and home at $4.16

    Yeah, prices went down here this past week. My former Sunoco (the one that lost me when they charged 10 cents a gallon for credit) is at $3.75 cash; $3.85 credit. Now I'm using Shell at $3.79 either way.

    I was listening to a program on the radio last night where a gas station owner was talking about his business. The interviewer asked how much profit the owner made on a gallon of gas and he replied, "Twelve to thirteen cents a gallon." He also mentioned that he had to make at least $55,000 a week just to break even and has to pay about $11,000 in credit card fees a month and can't raise the price for credit per gallon in New Jersey.

    Can't raise the price for credit? What? 10 cents a gallon isn't enough? It's enough for me to have abandoned any station that charges it and caused me to switch brands.

    Well, either that's a lie, or he owns a station tied to a big name that has rules against it. Pretty much every independent station here in NJ has 2 prices: 1 for cash and 1 for credit. That's why I stick to the namebrand places like Hess.

    The Crown station I tend to use has been trying a little reverse psychology, offering a "discount" if you pay cash. I think it's 4-5 cents per gallon. However, my credit card gives me something like 2.5% back. 4-5 cents comes out to around 1-1.2%

    I'm actually surprised the gas station makes a profit of 10 cents per gallon. I thought they barely broke even on gas. at $4/gal, 10 cents is a 2.5% profit. Many industries don't even make that much.

    Not attempting to shoot the messenger Lemko but the one major problem I have is when stations make multiple jumps per day, despite the fact they didn't have multiple deliveries per day. Every time there is a blip / disaster in the market, factual or otherwise (otherwise most of the time) the pump price shoots up.

    When there are multiple "market conditions" throughout the day, like the prince stubbed his toe, his toe got a blister, the nail popped off, prices skyrocket for each incident. Then the consumer finds that the prince had just commented on almost stubbing his toe but the damage is done.

    Are they trying to say they aren't making increased profits from the fuel that is already in the ground tanks? Is there something I'm missing?

    Sort of like the station(s) right at the major entrance / exit ramps are priced one cost, but you travel in a little bit and you find stations which are 10 ~ 20 cents cheaper.

    There's one thing you don't get in Jersey. All stations except the ones run by the Turnpike Authority (NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway) are only allowed to raise prices once a day. The ones on those toll roads can only do it once a week - on Friday - and have to follow a formula based on average state price for the prior week.

    When prices are rising quickly it pays to use the Parkway for this and it can line up, but these stations are never hurting for business.

    interesting fezo, not sure if we have that here in and around Chi-town.

    Anyway, yesterday leaving work prices were as normal, $4.00 ~ $4.20 then by home prices at the usual spots I use for the truck & car were $3.66 on average. I was all smiles but then realized, wow, I'm happy with prices ONLY being $3.66 average :D :confuse: :sick:

    Paid $4.35 for Chevron premium today...I swear I paid $4.29 on Sunday. Must be some kind of legitimate supply and demand thing.

    We're back to where the cheap gas is on the Parkway until Friday. $2.83 in town. $2.76 (same brand - Sunoco) on the Parkway. On the Parkway it's same price cash or credit.

    Why isn't Sunoco a top tier gas? It would make life easier.

    I just filled up my Mercury grand Marquis on Saturday.

    RUG was $3.79 now it jumped a dime in two days! Sunoco Ultra was $4.07 now it's $4.17! Must be some kind of legitimate supply and demand thing? Riiiiiight!

    Did you get any of that $1.84 per gallon gas being sold in Michigan? Just a reminder of how much gas was when Obama took office. Has not been under $2 per gallon here since February 2009. Not sure who to blame. I lean toward the Democrats that want gas to be priced like Europe.

    I actually paid $1.42 per gallon at a regional chain with their rewards program. Can buy up to 25 gallons. Wife drove one car, I drove the other, and a few gallons went into my 5-gallon can for lawn mower, edger, etc. Gas wasn't that cheap even when President Bush was in office!

    You guys are killing me. I don't even have enough grocery coupons to get 15 cents off a gallon right now.

    I mowed yesterday and enjoyed pulling the extension cord around. Nice not having to fool with fuel that way. Going to install another outdoor GFI here. For the snow blower. A friend gave us her electric shovel gizmo (I would have turned down a gas powered blower).

    NJ doesn't have any of those discount programs. It's always been like that. They didn't allow the giveaway glasses and such for gas either. I think in the 70s someone got the courts to overturn the no giveaways at gas stations law and they just passed a new one that dealt with the court's issues.

    Another one of our weird gas laws - like the never pump your own....

    We're going through a couple spikes by me. Took a trip over the weekend and filled-up before I left at usual place for $3.66 as stated. Returned home and needed to fill-up yesterday and the same station was $3.85, which was cheap as everyone else were higher. Luckily my #2 and #3 spots were still @ $3.66 so filled up at #2.

    The places @ $4.00 before were $4.20 and the $4.20 spots were up to $4.30; these were either Shells and BPs.

    I was going to fill the Sequoia this morning at my local Shell Station. They went from $4.15 last night to $4.39 this morning. I decided to wait until I get down to Costco. Filled the truck yesterday when we were at Costco for $3.95. It has been that price for over a month now.

    Moonbeam took the winter gas restriction off this morning. Went by a station that was out of gas this morning. Two hours later it was open for business. Still selling RUG for $4.67 and diesel $4.31. Costco right around the corner is open selling RUG at $4.59.

    local news reported this morn that they expect RUG to average $3.50 in the state in the very near future.

    Paid $4.35 or something for Chevron premium today. Also got into the depths of the E55 trip computer, and see that over something like 2700 miles, probably 70% city crawl, it has averaged 19mpg. Not too bad for a big relatively old V8..

    no, we don't have a good backup vehicle. Just our 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. FWD, but it has pretty good tires on it.

    was for $3.90. Fuel prices have gone up but mileage has gone down somewhat over the last couple of fill-ups from 22 to 19; matching the low temps we've been experiencing the last weeks :cry:

    Spent the weekend over in Minneapolis.

    Cheapest regular was $3.72. Most expensive diesel was $4.49 (oddly at a cheap gas place making the differential right at seventy cents a gallon).

    Typical prices were $3.80ish for regular and $4.29 for diesel.

    We've been hanging around $3.75 for a bit now. It'll gp up a penny or two then go right back down.

    I paid I think $4.47 for Chevron premium today. IIRC, diesel was $4.25. Crazy. Recent MB/BMW/Audi diesel buyers must be smiling.

    I remember those days. 1960 we used to have gas wars with the price going to 19 cents. If gas was following inflation it should be about $1.54 today. Hmmm someone is lying about buying power of our dollars.

    My brother was an Esso tiger for a while, when they were opening up new stations in the area. Remember the tiger tail giveaways? I mostly remember gas being 29.9 and milk was .49 a gallon back in '60.

    Still holding at $3.99 locally last I checked, although the Detroit papers keep saying gas has gone down twelve to fourteen cents statewide.

    We've dropped like a rock over a week down to

    $3.23.

    The media has put out a few rejections of people's thoughts that it's something done politically for the election to make people think gas prices have dropped and will stay. But it's supposedly due to winter blend being online and a couple of refinery problems had been fixed also adding to the supply. So law of supply and demand?

    Nope. It's a fire sale on summer blend being cleared out of the storage farms so winter blend will be here now that we're having the cool temperatures move into the upper Midwest.

    Yet oil prices on CNBC seem to be about the same, gas is "cheap."

    Use the map feature and widen the area seen and it shows we're a pocket of low prices. It doesn't even extend to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan... Sorry Steve.

    I'd heard that it was around $3.50 a couple of hours south of us (although I didn't see that last weekend over in Minneapolis).

    Got a road trip to Toledo coming up in a couple of weeks. If gas stays "cheap" I'll be able to afford some fried pickles at Packos. :D

    We're at $3.48 at the usual fill-up spot, with others in the $3.52 ~ 3.55 range. By job is higher by 15 ~ 20 cents...
