We went down again yesterday to $3.79. In the Detroit Free Press, they're saying Gas prices could soon drop 50 cents a gallon.

"Some central Ohio stations [are] selling gas for $2.97 a gallon."

10 cent drop yesterday here to $3.79

Could this be because of a late October before an early November Tuesday?? ;)

Sure, just like a 200 point drop in the DOW was specially timed to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of Black Monday. :shades:
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Wouldn't surprise me if some have computers programmed to sell on goofy anniversaries like that to avoid getting caught by karma :P
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
As in "My Karma, Just ran over your Dogma" ?

It makes for good conspiracy theories on timing. Just too many factors. And of course we all know gas is tied to Supply and Demand.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
It's either supply and demand... or Yahtzee... I can't decide which :shades:
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Paid $4.29 I think, for Chevron premium today. Decent drop from 5 days ago. Supply or demand must have changed.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Sunoco at Longshore and Rising Sun in NE Philly:

    RUG= $3.69
    Plus = $3.79
    Ultra = $3.95
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
    Saw $3.099 this morning.

    >supply, demand, Yahtzee.

Or be in a political swing state where gas prices were nearly $4.00 several weeks ago. This is more than just clearing out the storage tanks at the farms for winter blend.

I'm not in a swing state and the gas here was $4.09 just a few weeks ago.

Gotta buy some in the morning and hoping to score some in the $3.60 range.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Same here - I'd bet my life my state will be blue. 20+ cent drop in a week at the station I patronize.

Same here. Blue state; dropping gas prices.

I'm in the Netherlands right now and the gas is $2,20 for a liter!! something else huh?

Just because we're spoiled doesn't mean we can't gripe. :D

Hopefully they keep your roads in better condition than our states do.

Was in town twice today and gas was down this morning to $3.62 and it fell again sometime during the day. Regular is now $3.59.

Got some on the road a couple of days ago for $3.52.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...is down to $3.89 at Longshore and Rising Sun in NE Philly as of this morning.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
There, you get nice roads and transit, not to mention other common goods. In the states, you pay little and get little.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Our Costco is now back to $3.99. Most stations still about $4.20 and up.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
were for $3.33 at Shell by home. Filled up the Olds for the winter then the DD. The usual place and back-up were at $3.40. Places by work are still @ $3.70 on average.

Funny thing but on my route near home there are two Mobil stations priced at $3.33. The Shell I filled up for the same is about 1/4 mile away from one of them. The other Mobil is about a couple miles east down the road and price the same & there is a Shell and a BP at the same intersection. The BP is priced @ $3.66 and the Shell @ $3.35 (with a wash - which is in very small print), $3.60 just fuel. :confuse:

Unlike this time last year, the radio says Michigan is under the national average right now and another fall of around fifteen cents is expected.

I don't ever remember gas prices going down this fast. Going up, yes.

Looks like gas is around $3.19 down in Detroit for regular, per GasBuddy. Looks like diesel is running mostly between $3.70 and $3.90.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...because of impending Hurricane Sandy. I'm sure the powers that be will use this hurricane as an excuse to jack up the price of gas again!
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
The economy is slowing. People aren't buying. The crude price is lower as well. The odd low pricing has lasted much longer than the usual 3-5 days we'd get as they cleared out the summer and loaded the winter into their storage tanks at the farms. It's been 7-10 days now. Bet it'll go up on Nov 7.

Nominal pricing is $3.18 in this area with $3.02 available if you travel around the area on other business and want to fill up there.

    Really odd.

It'll probably spike out here, too. Supply and demand, you know :shades:
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
My son is enjoying the price of gas in Ky right now. After leaving Alaska gas prices and being gouged down through Canada, Washington and CA, he can fill his Yukon for a lot less. His home in Evansville is just a mile from cheap gas in Kentucky. Just filled for $3.11 per gallon. Indiana ain't much higher at $3.21.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Ours dropped again today. $3.55.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Another drop; now at $3.51.

Guess the memo about Sandy hasn't arrived yet.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Heading home yesterday majority of the stations were back up to $3.66 ~ $3.69 per gallon. This from about half of them being $3.28 earlier in the day. I was lucky and the Thorntons was still at $3.26 so filled up a day early.

Guess because we may, possibly, might, could get swells at the lakefront that's cause for a 30 - 40 cent price increase by me, which the lakefront is about 65 miles away.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
NE Philly: Sunoco Ultra is $3.87. Surprised they didn't use Hurricane Sandy as an excuse to jack up the price. Philly was spared much of Sandy's wrath. The only damage in my neighborhood was a fallen tree about a block away.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Good to hear you're safe and your area wasn't damaged.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Most stations down to $3.40, with a couple @ $3.36. Was out coming back from an appointment and was able to fill up for $3.27 :shades:

Don't think prices are going to get lower but there's always a chance...
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Currently on assignment for work in WI, petrol prices are roughly the same along I-90 / 39 into WI:

    87 octane averaging $3.35 advertised
    93 octane averaging $3.62 advertised
    Diesel averaging $3.89 advertised

Encountered first snow for myself though where I'm at (Tomahawk) had 1st snow early October

Side note: in 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan rental. Not bad, 3rd row seating not too cramped, has amble room for 6 male adults with basic luggage (duffel / gym bags and laptops), perhaps w/ ladies wouldn't be enough cargo capacity. Not too bad of a ride considering the choppiness of I-39. Not sure how it would fair taking that route everyday at highway speeds, or any vehicle for that matter. Would I buy one, not sure - not a minivan type of person but for a rental not bad I must admit. Very good HVAC system, nice and toasty!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Saw diesel in most places around Stuttgart for 1.50 euro/liter. Hopefully I can average at least 30mpg out of the rental.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
Filled up the '02 Explorer for 3.739 credit price.
DTE read 0 miles to empty for a mile or so, but I put in 22 gallons and it is supposed to hold 22.5 gallons.

This morning I noticed that several gas stations around Port Huron had bumped from ~$3.55 to $3.65. Even though I had a half a tank, I started paying attention and found a Marathon that had gas for $3.35. So I put ten gallons in. Gotta look up some gasbuddy stations tonight for a refill before the bridge.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Same here - the $3.49 stations are bumping up to the $3.59 ~ $3.69 range. I'm a couple days from my next fill-up but may be filling up again earlier if I find a decent price...

    Pre-Thanksgiving bump? :confuse:

Just got another tank at $3.49 in Mackinaw City. Downstate it's pushing $3.69 most places. There's one more cheap spot I know of that I can top it off with in a few hours and then I really will "park" the van for the winter. Had a few snow squalls on the freeway today, but the radar looks okay for a while now.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Not too bad - glad you were able to get the $3.49, hopefully I can do the same or even cheaper as I did last week. Maybe because we got our first "snow", or maybe because Tesla S got MT COY, or maybe it's because it's Tuesday...

Filled up the new Explorer with RUG for 3.799 credit price on 11/12, same price I paid filling it up on 10/24.

I was going to fill up yesterday at Costco. I hate long lines, 6 deep on every bay. Had half tank wait until next trip down. Price was $3.73 best in area.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I put in 9.9 gallons on the last leg to the house at $3.49. My usual "cheap" station over that way was a dime higher than three stations a few miles back, but this place has good coffee and it's free, so I figured the extra buck it cost me to fill up saved me two bucks on the two coffees we got.

Gas at home is up six cents from last week to $3.59.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Perks can make the deal better. I sometimes buy 8 gallons of higher priced Shell to get a $3.99 car wash. Plus my Costco AMEX card gives me back 3%.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $3.46 at usual place. Most places on home-work-home route are in the $3.60 range, with the shell by work @ $3.80.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Suburban Zurich - sorry so blurry, shot at a distance with a phone. Top price is gas, bottom diesel:

    image
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Well, that means that regular is ~6.79 a gallon and diesel is ~7.43 a gallon, sticking to Swiss francs.

Converting the currency, regular comes in at $7.17 a gallon and diesel is $7.84. The differential is 67 cents. So diesel is around 9% higher. Not bad assuming the mpg is typically higher than 9% comparing a gasser to a similar diesel car.

    (Usual disclaimers about my math).
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
In Germany, it is reversed - diesel is cheaper (not by a huge gap, maybe 5% or so at most). Diesel is still the sensible choice in Europe no matter where you live.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
From all the posts you read in the diesel forums here, I had the impression that it diesel was always significantly cheaper in most of Europe, what with tax breaks and other incentives to encourage using it.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I think gasoline in Germany was around 1.60-1.65 Euro/liter, with diesel maybe 1.50. So maybe closer to 10%, but not huge. Good reason to choose a diesel rental car.

In Switzerland, I think the goodie goodie bleeding heart types who have some influence (and with their huge salaries probably drive X6s and live in energy guzzling houses) would do away with the car entirely, if they could. There's an active political component against it.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Paid EUR 1.39/liter for diesel in Dornbirn, Austria today.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
You still burning up the Autobahn in the EU? Thought you were home by now. Paid $3.69 at Costco yesterday. Lowest price since August.
