ryan - if indigo blue is anything like me and tim's black...you're going to want to dry it with a chamois anyways, or you won't completely get rid of the water spots/streaks. save your cotton towels for buffing the wax off.

Nice to have you on board as an owner of a 00. Glad you did'nt blow the engine on your way back from the dealer! See how we all worry about you! Now, I am just kidding you. Actually I have been so busy since Friday that I have not even thought about this site until now. In answer to your question. I live in Illinois, just across the Mississippi from St. Louis (15-20 minutes from my home to Bush Stadium (Home of the Cardinals) and the TWA Dome (Home of the Rams). However, I am not a big Blues/hockey fan--there is just too much legalized assault in that league for me)

The May issue of Automobile magazine chose the Silverado and Sierra as the best pickups of the year. I had already decided that, before ordering mine. What took them so long to make that decision?
  • swobigswobig Member Posts: 634
Isn't it funny how one magazine will pick the Silverado as best truck and one will pick the Tundra? Hmmm, wonder what's up with that???
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Everyone for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate it alot. I didnt think the chamiox (not the lingerie thingy) lasted that long.

Yes, I also have often thought about what influences those magazine people in making decisions on the ranking of cars and trucks. Glad somebody finally decided to give deserved credit to the 00 Silverado as the best truck of the year. I was surprised when the Tundra was selected earlier. How could they have done that? Bob

I got my first truck when I was three.
Drove a hundred thousand miles on my knees.
    Hauled marbles and rocks,
    thought twice before
I hauled a Barbie doll bed
    for the girl next door.
She tried to pay me with a kiss
    and I began to understand
There's somethin' women like about a pickup man.

I too have a lumbar that has a mind of its own. Perhaps once a week, I'll have to readjust the setting (Still love THE TRUCK). The outside mirrors do not dim as advertised. They do not have the glare that untreated mirrors do. My wife's 99 Tahoe LT has exterior mirrors that dim the same as the interior mirrors. This is a very nice feature that should have been incorporated into the '00 Silverado /Tahoe /Suburban.
BTW, my '00 LT, 4dr, 5.3, short bed, 3.73 rear still has the rough idle however no other problems. My friends identical truck has no rough idle, has better gas mileage but has a broken steering column adjuster. It failed in the up position (Now it is like a bus steering wheel)
  • bob332bob332 Member Posts: 137
How many miles do you have on your 00 with the rough idle and when did it start? What was the build date for it? Just curious since I may need to be ready for a rough idle on mine, but I hope not. Seems to be a rather common problem on the 5.3. No problems with my lumbar, but it is the manual type instead of the power one on my LS with 6 way power position buckets. Bob

What the hell is that?? Bang you head, shoot your wife, beat your kids, it's worse than country! I guess after listening to Country (where everyone leaves you) you listen to headbanging music and kill them all. Just messin with ya Tim, where do they get those names???
  • gnippergnipper Member Posts: 120
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one with the problem. It will indeed be one of those that is never duplicated, I've already tried several times - never works. It only happened once this past weekend, two weeks ago, it happened almost every time I got in the truck.

A clarification on the lumbar supports for some - this may not be true on all the different types of seats - but the full featured electric buckets do not use air bladders anymore - there is a physical something in the seat that is moves and presses in the lumbar areas - middle of the back as well as the sides of the seat. Someone mentioned the air bladder - just wanted to clarify that.

I just got a new basic model Silverado Truck. I went with a very basic model only opting for the 4.8 liter V8, AC, automatic transmission, and a few other basic things. I have the 40/20/40 front seat and was wondering if anyone can tell me where I might be able to get a center console that would fit on the floor or the middle seat that look good and mounts securely. I browsed Carparts.com, but I didn't find anything specifically for the Silverado.

Has anybody ever used Cargogear.com? They are selling the Tracrac for $599. That's the best price I've found. Anybody else seen them for less?

I'm also trying to figure out what the deal is with that engine hour gadget on my Z71.

    TIA

Dunno where the names come from?....all I know is there ain't no Country In-breading going on with Hendrix man..

If you don't know who Jimi Hendrix is....then I guess you might as well listen to country...drive a Dodge..and be a vegetarian....

I met a country singer one time....he said he'd like me to meet his wife and sister.......problem is there was only one girl standing there....

Voodoo Child... Who said Voodoo Chile? I think I tasted voodoo chile once. I don't know what they put into it, perhaps a handful of habanero peppers, it was hot.

Voodoo Child and old Hendrix tune, there is nothing like listening to the blues. Perhaps the blues is the root to much of the music we listen today. Legends like Hendrix and SRV will never be forgoten for their talents and contributions to this type of music.

It is nice to sit back with a good Stevie Ray Vaughan CD and a bowl of voodoo chile. LOL

My '00 was built 2-10-00 in Canada. I picked it up on 2-24-00 in Lithia Springs, GA. THE TRUCK (Silverado) has had a rough idle since the day I picked it up. Most of the time it idles smoothly. Periodically it will act as though it is stumbling, recover, idle smoothly, then stumble again. It will idle at 500 RPM, bumps to 490 RPM, 500, then 510 (i.e., bearly noticeable).

Three dealers have said there is nothing that they can do because there are no trouble codes being stored in the computer and that GM has not acknowledged that there is a problem. (no software update to PCM). One poster has stated that the HyperTech Power Programmer III removed the rough idle from his truck as he was reprogramming for larger tires. I may have to spend the $350 for this device if this problem bugs me enough. Not yet...

This truck is like having an opportunity to have a date with the most beautiful girl in the world when one notices a slight zit on her chin. Question: Do I go out with her or not? Yeah -- right, I stay at home. NOT
    Love THE TRUCK ....

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Is the idle at 500 rpms normal??? Thats what mine stays at while stopped or in park.

    Im not touchy TIM.

I have absolutely no complaints about this truck. I am a kinda picky person too but nothing bothers me at all. Except im getting sick of people flying by me or taking off from a stop light and i take it easy i know i could blow em off the road but i wanna take it easy for a lil bit.

  • bob332bob332 Member Posts: 137
Dustyone, Thanks for the details. I thought I had noticed a slight roughness on maybe two different occasions, but it has not returned during the past couple of days. Sounds like I need to stay tuned.
Ryan, My idle seems to be normal at 500 rpm.

  • 87lion87lion Member Posts: 166
The engine hour meter uses the odometer display. With the ignition key off press and hold the odometer reset button for about 5 seconds.
  • kantonkanton Member Posts: 142
    The 500 RPM is normal.
  • kantonkanton Member Posts: 142
I was the one who reprogrammed and got rid of the rough idle. I would not spend $300 for a programmer just to get rid of the roughness, not worth it. However, if you need to reprogram for different size tires or you want more performance then go ahead.

Also, I called Hypertech and there is no recall on the programmers. The guy said if you have a calibration code the programmer does not recognize you need to send it back so it can be updated. He also said GM sends them a CD with all of the calibration codes used in the trucks. That's it, no recall.

    Good Luck

The song title is in fact "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)", not child, not chili, etc.
  • swobigswobig Member Posts: 634
look real good. I had the 265's and switch to 285's a am very happy with them. Don't know which rims you have, maybe they won't fit? I have the polished aluminum? I think and they fit ok. No rubbing on my Z-71, stock suspension I'm not sure. However, you will have to reprogram your speedo for the new tires.

I was just making fun of the song - Chili. Man, that was a good laugh, thanks...

4 Days with the TR55 plugs, gapped at .052 and absolutely no ping, with a/c on, temps in low 80's, 87 octane Quicktrip gas.

    Yeeeeehaawwww!

As for the rough idle someone was having, change to a copper core plug set. For less than $20, problem will be resolved and also have better performance. You will no longer have 100k mile spark plug life though. More like maybe 35-40k mile life. Such is the breaks to have better performance.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Thanks for that spark plug info. I was going to ask you how those were working out!

Let me get this straight, the TR55 is stock heat range, copper core plug, and you've gapped them at 0.052? What is the stock gap? More?

Last question, these are Bosch plugs? Wonder about platinum tips gapped at 0.052???

May try the copper cores anyway. Any problems getting the plugs installed around the steering shaft?

    Thanks, quad.

Truck has almost 600 mls and its running perfect. It is kinda eating gas though but its been all city driving this tank of gas. I would have to say the husky mudflaps are great. So far i have no dirt or mud on the rear underneath they really work great. Anyone out there that is looking for mudflaps i would highly suggest them. Also the wade bedrail caps are nice they go good with the truck. Thats all i have to say for now. Ill keep you all updated.

Had an ASC moonroof installed in '00 LT. The guy did an awesome job and looks great. Couple of pics if interested:

Does it open all the way?
What does it look like on the inside?
  • speedybirdspeedybird Member Posts: 29
    Quadrunner500,
Yes it opens all the way.
See below link for inside pictures.

    Details......
The roof fully opens and closes at the touch of a button. It also has a vent feature. You can stop the glass at any position. There is a fabric slide cover to close out all the light. It automatically opens when you open the roof. It is closed in the pics.

The buttons are backlit green and the ASC button is either green or red. When red, the roof will stay put when you shut the engine off, otherwise it will automatically close when the engine is turned off.

The switch will be replaced in about a week so that the button lettering is in the horizontal position and not vertical (as shown in pics).

The overhead console was cut and I lost the rear 3 compartments. (I laughed when I read page 2-64, the rear compartment can be used for small items like a book!!!).

For some reason when I upload my pics, I lose quite a bit of resolution. Oh well, you get the idea. If anyone would like additional information let me know. I can also snap some more pics from any angle. I really like the moonroof and wished Chevy made it a factory option.

moonroof looks good. Was it very expensive? I heard they may be a option in the future? Would be kind of nice, even though it is a truck...
  • dbhulldbhull Member Posts: 150
Actually these are "NGK" copper core plugs, not Bosch. I don't have much experience to share on the Bosch copper cores. I could also recommend the Autolite copper core plugs. They are pretty good also. The NGK TR55 plugs are the stock heat range, only they are copper core vise platinum. The stock gap is the same as what comes from the factory on the AC plugs, .060. I decreased the gap to .052 and still to date, no ping. Temps were mid 80's today and very humid. AC on, 87 octane gas, no ping.

The plugs were a cinch to remove and install. I have become a pro at it now. Got it down to 35 minutes, including the time taken to put anti seize compound on the plug threads. The only one that is a little tricky is actually the #8 plug, which is the plug closest to the firewall on the passenger side. I still didn't have much trouble, but had to use a (forget what it is technically called.....moves to a 90 degree angle on the socket for tight fit situations).

Good luck. I am gaining a new found respect for my truck. I just wish I had done this a year ago.

I also ordered the autotap. I figure I may need it down the road. It will also help to test tolerances of maintenance items like O2 sensors, etc. If they are close to limits, I may replace those too, just for S&G's.

    Dan.

    Randy,
Like Swobig, interested in price. Does look great. Have a link on ASC?

    Dan,
NGK TR55's. Thanks. I may try this. Gonna take a look at number 8 tonight.

I have a April-00 LS 4.8 made in Canada. It too has a slightly rough idle. I can't feel it and I don't see it in the tach (idles at 500 rpm) but I can hear it. It really doesn't bother me that much it's just the fact that I know it there, when it shouldn't be. It seems odd that the plugs would be the problem. I have the platinums in my Camery & they work great. With all the electronics on the engine I would think a minor adjustment would be the cure. Maybe the TPS might be off a little.

When it bothers me enough I'll raise the hood and get into it. Now the radio's turned up and I'm enjoying the ride!

My April 00, 5.3 extended cab has just developed a wind noise from the drivers side rear window. When I gently push on it,I mean very gently with one finger, the fixed mount that is attached to the body will flex over 1/4 ", allowing the window to go out.I am getting wind noise from 30 MPH and up. I have to firmly push on the passenger side to get it to move at all. You would think with all the rear window problems on the 99's, GM would have had this corrected by now. Has anyone else had this problem on a 4 door 00?

Also, I have noticed a slight power steering whine when slightly moving the steering wheel to the left after the truck is warmed up. Anyone else?

I just bought a 1995 Chevy 3/4 ton w/454. I was just told it came with something called an Indionaplis 500 package. Anyone know what this is?

Ok, the bad news on the ASC moonroof is the cost factor. $1100 installed.

    Root web site is:
    http://www.ascglobal.com/
You can lookup local dealers, etc. My installed sunroof is the ASC 925 VSS.

  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
That is one slick installation job. It looks as good as factory. Considering all the guts plus the labor to install, that price doesn't seem so bad.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Just to let you know you're not alone, my 6.0 also has rough idle. It seems to be a little worse when it's warm out. Dealer says "nothing wrong," now there's a shock.
