I followed the example from someone on this board and ordered my shocks from www.carparts.com after getting multiple quotes. By e-mail they quoted $74, then later by live on-line quote it was $62. I used the MotorTrend 1/3 off coupon which brought them to $41 each. Who knows how cheap they'd be if I'd asked a few more times!

Accessories: Westin CPS nerf bars, self-installed, Bugflector II bug guard. I am now changing my opinion on the Bugflector II. Have experienced a "rippling" noise at high speeds (greater than 75 mph) that I have attributed to the Bugflector. Sooner or later will change to the Lund. Soon plan on getting Rhino or Line-X spray-in, the bed's getting a little scuffed.
All in all: very pleased with my truck. No complaints with the job GM did assembling it. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a multi-purpose vehicle. Hauling, towing, off-roading, SUV-ing, or just highway driving - it's great for all of the above.
there was a post at one time about a "switch" of some kind that you could install that automatically turned on the fog lamps when the headlights came on. does anyone have any details or a link?

I really like the fog lights coming on - doesn't really add that much light - as has been discussed before - it just adds a distinctive look to the truck to have them on.
When installing the switch you have a selection to make it work only with the automatic lights or with the auto lights and the switch on the dash. I chose the later. It's kind of weird, it doesn't work 100% of the time with the light switch on the dash, but it has so far with the auto headlights, I didn't call them. So far I've never used the switch to turn on the headlights other than testing.
It appears just to be a simple relay of some sort inside a black box just like the picture on their web site. It detects a signal of the lights coming on and sends a signal to the computer to turn the fog lights on. Installation was quick and simple. Pulling the dash coverings off was easy as well - and I was amazed at how easy they go back together and how well they fit. These trucks have come a long way from even '96.
I ordered the unit that automatically turns the fog lights on and the unit that keeps your regular lights on when you turn on the highbeams. Both work great. Install took about 20 minutes each.
The truck looks different now. I added westin black nerf bars, lund interceptor, husky mudflaps, wade bedrail caps, and a rhino spray in. Pictures were taken about 3 wks ago before i picked the truck up. Hope you can check it out.
I have a 00 1500 LT Z71 off road package,doesn't that come with premium Bilstein shocks,what would the advantage of the Edelbrock IAS shocks be,and I've been reading about Monroe Reflex shocks,any suggestions.Also anybody have any ideas on a super big gulp sized cupholder for the LT with heated buckets and the console.
As anyone seen a site that offers replacement headlight bulbs for the 2000 Silverado which contain some Xenon Gas. Brought some from Germany for other car but they didn't a Spec for Chevy.
The brake pedal on my Y2K Silverado depresses 2 inches before the brakes are actually engaged. That seems like an excessive amount of play to me, but I don’t know what’s normal for these trucks. Do the pedals on any of your trucks do the same thing? I figured I better get some other input before I go whining to my dealer.
I'm with you, power slider would be nice. Seriously considered a CR Laurence, but quoted price was $565 installed. Decided it wasn't worth it at that price, a little cheaper....possibly.
I have to ask....which brand (two major ones are CR Laurence and Jackson) and where did you get it done? I was told CR Lau. was $450 for parts and roughly $100 labor install. Any pics??
I just went "live on line" at CarParts with "parts specialist Chris" who quoted me a price of $76.90 each for the 2K 2WD Silverado IAS shocks. I mentioned that I saw vince4s post here two days ago at $62, and this is a 24% increase in 2 days. Chris told me that this increase happened "weeks ago." He also quoted 10% shipping, which I suppose was on the 1/3 off coupon price ($76.90 X 33%0ff X 10% shipping = $56.68?) Vince4: Did you actually end up paying $41 for your shocks, + 10% shiping, or did they raise the price on your order? Did anyone get the same $76.90 price from CarParts recently? Should I just try later and maybe get a better price from a different "parts specialist?"
I just purchased a set of four IAS shocks from carparts.com for my 2K Sierra SLE 2wd, and the total, with 33% off coupon, was $228. I also asked about the $41 price, and "Paul" said "????" I'm going to try out the IAS shocks, since they have a 30-day money-back guartantee, and see if they are worth it. If not, back they go!
I think I'll wait to see if your ride improves. Do you have a reg. cab or extended cab, long bed or short bed? I am also considering "Velvet Ride" rear spring shackles with rubber inserts to reduce bouncing when driving with an empty box, which is all I do with my truck. My base regular cab has smooth ride suspension, but I am looking for anything to add to a smoother ride due to a chronic low back pain conditon I have.

But my memory is that it was about $400 for the slider and about $40 for installation normally, but I got a package deal including a SnugTop shell and a Bedrug all at the same time, so I THINK they knocked it down to $400 total.

I also have the mysterious tamborine sound in my 2000 5.3 liter Silverado. I describe it as a small metal pepple being tossed around. Did you ever get it fixed? I only notice it went I tap the gas very lightly. The dealer thought it was an exhaust leak and replaced my catalytic converter but it did no good...still hear it. Keep me posted on what you do... I want to add on an exhaust system (flowmaster 50 series) and want to make sure nothing is wrong with my engine or its exhaust system. Thanks
YOu sound like my dad. When i was 17 my first new car cost me $1500 (chevelle). And then he says why u gonna add all those nerf bars and things to it. How come he raised the back end of his car and did numerous things to the engine? Like father like son i guess
750hill, I know www.performanceproducts.com sells some fancy replacement bulbs. They have the cheap "blue" type and the expensive gas type but I don't know if it's Xenon. Their web site is limited, you may need the print catalog.
volkej, 2" pedal travel sounds on the high side of normal. I've never really looked at it closely but mine does go down a bit before you get much braking.
Yes, I got them for $62.60 each as quoted (before discount). It sounds like I got lucky. I remember a post a few weeks ago where the second price quoted was in the $50's I think.

Vince4 Performance had some PIAA Super Whites for $80.00pr w/ship. Thanks for the post. Another E-Mailed with a site called www.autobulbdepot.com. They had the PIAA Super Whites and Hiper Bulbs which contain the Xenon gas but they were not D O T approved, and intended for off road use.
What I have coming from Germany for the other car contain Xenon gas are DOT/SAE, street legal, with higher output than PIAA but $120 pair. A True Xenon retro is $1000 with many having computer problems, if ordered on car $500 so if these come close big savings.
For the Silverado ordered the PIAA, can compare the two companies.
Any of you guys upgraded the 27 watt bulb in the fog lights? What did you use? Anybody replace the the whole factory fog lamp assembly (made by Blazer) for a higher quality 55w+ halogen unit with a metal housing? The stock fog lights seem pretty wimpy and are made out of plastic. We have plenty of foggy mornings where I live, and an upgrade to some higher power units like PIAA's (in the factory location) would sure be sweet! Anybody tried it already?

I'm also interested in beefing up the whimpy factory fog lights. I can't quite bring myself to pay $350 for the PIAA dual mode replacements though. A bulb upgrade is about right I think. Will a 50W bulb melt the case?
I'm thinking of upgrading my shocks to the IAS shocks. The frost heaves in Michigan can be brutal!! I was wondering if I can just replace the ones in the rear since the back end bounce seems to be the biggest problem. Or is it recommended to replace all 4 at once? I have also seen that the Monroe Reflex appears to be similar to the Edelbrocks. Anyone compared the two? Any comments?

Sylvania part #893 is halogen-38 watts (940 lumens) vs. the factory halogen-#890 (540 lumens). Pretty susbstantial increase in output. I've got them in and they perform great, but I'm a little worried that I'm going to fry my truck. Blazer makes the factory fog lights for GM. I saw a set of Blazer lights at an auto accessory store that had what appeared to be the same basic construction (plastic housing, etc.) and Blazer had these set up with the 38 watt halogen bulbs! Don't know what size wiring Chevy is using and the wiring, relay?, etc. may be the wink links if the plastic doesn't melt. I carry a fire extinquisher in the cab just in case! Unfortunately Blazer does not have any internet awareness, so I can't e-mail them to find out what the factory units can handle, or what upgrades to wiring etc. may be necessary...

steering shaft play up around the steering wheel.
i'm not talking about left to right turning play,
it's the type where the steering shaft feels like
it's held in by a loose steering shaft bearing, up by the steering wheel. mine feels like it's going through an oversized bearing or something. most noticeable when going over bumps at slow speeds. it kinda rattles.
Thanks dropper! I didn't know that BLAZER was a division of FEDERALMOGUL. I was able to place a phone message to a BLAZER electrical engineer, and hopefully soon I'll find out what the specs and max bulb watts are for the factory fog lamps. I'll post an update when he gets back to me...
