    I had a similar service problem with the ford dealer here where I live a couple of years ago and the way I had the problem taken care of is when I talked to the service manager at the dealer Imade it quite clear to him that I was extremely dissatisfied with their service and that I wanted to talk to the district service manager, after a few minutes he reluctantly gave me the phone number and at noon that day I recieved a phone call that the work was complete on my truck and that I could pick it up at my convenience when I got my truck back the problem was gone and I didn't even have to call the district manager(although I was ready to). I hope this helps you out a little. If nothing else jumping down their throat in front of a lot of customers will work also.(I have done that once too and it worked)

    I went to Midas to get Flowmasters installed. They talked me into their brand with the guarantee that if I didn't like it I could just pay the difference. I hate it! Between 50-60mph, it is just plain annoying - the noise. When I had my Ram, I loved the Flowmasters. Does anybody have Flowmasters installed on their Silverado? What is the sound like? Is it bothersome at all?

    I also got a Rhino spray on bedliner - it's awesome.

    Got my new 00 Silverado 2500 4x4 today. Order was placed Mar 28 and built April 28th. I placed the order by fax and phone, and the first time I set foot in the dealership was today when I picked up the truck.

    I'm amazed, it is quieter and smoother than my 99 Silverado 1500 4x4. And the ride is quite good for a 3/4 ton truck with 'Firm Ride' suspension.

    $900 under invoice, and only 6 weeks order to delivery.

    In 25,000 miles we never turned on the radio in the 99. We started this truck out with Brooks and Dunn singing about Dale Earnhart with 'Sunday Money'.

    I've about seen and heard every excuse and bull story there is from service departments. Yours is a rather mild case of noncommunication between the tech and the shop foreman...so what else is new. What I did in your case was to take the actual person (tech) assigned to my truck out for a test drive. We drove for about 40 miles. In that time he had a chance to "feel" all the vibrations at different speeds, the shock/clunk in the steering, and the wind noise from my rear windows. We also had a long discussion about "not being able to verify" and how it wastes the customer's time and makes the tech look stupid. He told me that anything marginal...like some of my vibrations would be attributed to normal operations as road conditions, etc. change. He said on our test drive, he now "clearly" understands each vibration at exactly what speed. He related my clunking in the steering to the new spring insulators which he installed. He said he would grease the universal joints on the steering shaft to help loosen any binding caused by the new insulators. After our long discussion, we both understood where each other was coming from. BTW, he told me he just got his '00 2500 xcab...he had waited 9 months for it and told me I should get one too. I told him he could help me out by stating that my vibrations could not be fixed and help to testify at my lemon law hearing. He told me that he may as well give me his truck as he would not be able to afford it after the dealer fired him. Bottom line is get the tech to drive with you...if you have any problems verifying, go and test drive a new model that doesn't do it...most times the test drive will do it...good luck. I also had told the Service Manager that if they kept wasting my time, I would invoice them @ my rate of
    $ 75.00/hr. Sorry for the incredibly long post...you had touched on a very emotional topic concerning wasting my time.

    have had such an emotional time with your chevy.
    for chevy to let you go through such an ordeal
    not to mention others i've read about, you'd
    think they would just say "hey" let's make it
    right. hell we won't let our customers go away
    unhappy, whether it be a small project or one of
    grand magnitude. all customers are important.
    anyway i have two options left, the first is when
    customer relations calls to do their follow up
    and the second is to try the other dealer in my
    town. they by the way have already told me that
    they know of the problem and have already implied
    to me that they will get my problem resolved.

    i would have thought 'ol Timbo would have come up
    with a solution by now. hmm, guess he's
    slipping.LOL

    funny you should mention that. the shop foreman
    told me he had a '99 that he uses to haul his
    dirt bikes. told me he drives it mostly with the
    tow/haul mode on. and guess what, it hasn't had
    one single problem. yeah right, he probably snuck
    in at night, took 5 trucks and made one perfect
    one for himself and put the other 4 back on the
    lot.

    Denali was in the shop three weeks ago to balance tire. After having the truck for five hours, I get a phone call saying that I can pick up the truck since they don't have any weights to balance the tires (and you thought you heard it all). Anyway, I tell the service advisor that I am at a friend's repair shop and can bring down the weights in about two minutes. After some stuttering, he tells me that actually the balance machine is broken cause my tires are too heavy...
    Long story short...with the intervention of GM customer assist (yes, GM customer assist), dealer was given a deadline of today to rebalance my tires. Took it to my friends shop who does some of the more difficult jobs for this dealer and we rebalanced the two front tires. One was ok the other was off by 1/2 oz. So we started looking around under the truck to see what else could be causing the vibration. Lo and behold, we find a rattling front bilstein and a leaking rear one. How did the dealer miss this? Called service writer who told me to bring truck back next week as they have to order the shocks. I told him that I did not want to drive the damn thing with the shocks in that condition. he insisted that there would be no problem driving it like that. Screw him...got on the phone and called Service Manager threatening litigation if I were to drive the vehicle in an "unsafe" condition and they knew about it. So now I have a $50K '00 Sedan Deville for the next 5 days as a loaner...a fair exchange I think...

    I see from post 616 that you ordered a 2001 CC 4x4 with a 6.0. Sounds like a nice truck.
    Now I've got lots of questions.
    Will the 6.0 have aluminum heads with 325HP?
    Will your truck have a 2" lift?
    Why cann't you get a 3.73? What ratio did you order?
    Do you know if they are still going to make the 8600 GVWR extendedcab?
    I may stop by my dealer next week and any info I have before that is greatly appreciated.

    They will make the 8600 GVW Ext.cab!!

    That's what I plan to replace this one for a 2002 Model...

    I don't need a crew cab and like the ride/hauling capabilty of this combo..

    I'm just curious if anyone has any knowledge as to when they begin making the 2001 Silverado's.
    A dealer told me that the plants go on vacation the first two weeks of July and they begin making the 2001's when they return. Shouldn't you be able to order a 2001 in June or so. Thanks for any thoughts.

    Quadrunner, if you are out there, get this.
    Ran the autotap today. Pretty cool here today, high 60's. Not once did I show any knock sensor retard. Seems pretty peculiar. Even though I am not having any ping, I would think that the knock sensors would still be compensating for when timing is advanced too far, even a degree or two.

    What do you think? Also, my EGR settings fluctuate drastically. I am still gaining knowledge of how this thing works. What I did was log the parameters to a file, which is a comma delimited file that I imported into Excel as a workbook. This way I was able to log to this file a full 30 minute trip into work with all the varying loads, etc.

    Anyone else got any comments or inputs on this.

    I replaced the rear speakers and installed a Bazooka Tube subwoofer. It really helped fill out the sound for a moderate investment (<$300). More power would be nice but it's not bad so I'll likely stop here.

    I also installed the amplified Bazooka. I may also put in new rear 4x6 speakers, depending on how convioncing Vince is ...
