I prefer the model names they use, SE5 and SE7 for instance. Shopping for used ones it's hard to tell what's what. Even Fitzmall labels them with obscure names like "Ltraudio+".
I think it is a little to far... Great to scare people as they walk by or trying to find your car in during holiday season in the mall parking lot... but it can also accidentally unlock your car if you have the keys in your pocket, which is not good at all.
I recently read that the optional 3.6L H-6 to be found on the '08 Tribeca may have a timing belt, and not a timing chain.
Not sure why, other than the fact that timing chain-equipped 3.0 H6s, unless you're religious about oil changes, can be troublesome, or so I've been told.
I just bought a new Tribeca and I was told to only use 91 or better octane. Is there any problem if I don't, I don't want to void my warranty if some thing goes wrong. The dealer said the computers were all set for high octane and it will cause problems down the road. Maybe they are sleeping with enemy (gas producers).
If it calls for 91 octane and you run lower, the engine management system will compensate for the lower octane. But more than likely you'll reduce your fuel economy to the point that it's economically better to spend more for premium. Using a higher grade than recommended typically does nothing for performance or economy.
This one has been hashed over a number of times here. The summary: The Tribeca was designed for 91 octane, and the Hp and torque ratings were determined based on 91. However, Subaru has officially said that you can put regular in the vehicle. Your performance will be slightly less. Some people have reported a fuel economy difference of a mpg or 2. Others, none at all- probably has to do with how you drive. You will not void or affect your warranty in any way by putting in 87.
As I understand the difference- if you are going to do any towing, moutain driving, or anything that requires low-end grunt, then definately use 91. If you do mostly higher rpm driving, like highway/high speed driving, then you'll be fine with 87.
Hmmm. I guess there's mid-grade as an option as well.
I'd probably run 91 for the first 1000 mile break-in period to ensure that knocking doesn't affect early engine wear, but after that, report back to us and let us know if you feel any difference or see any mpg dropoff.
well after 25k miles I got back a rattle in the front suspension. they fixed it last time with a sway bar and I think bushing replacement.
it was fine for 25k miles. took it in and they heard it. sounds like the suspension is loose over large bumps when the suspension unloads. they ordered a new sway bar to replace. thank god I got the GOLD extended zero deductable warranty for 50k miles!
Followed a Tribeca yesterday in SLC that was painted out in Nordica logos and enlarged Subaru logos. Went on the Nordica website and saw they are partnered with Subaru for their ski events. Pretty good endorsement.
Also, Boise Steve if you're out there - congrats to the Boise State Broncos. Great game!
Anyone going to the January auto shows to try and catch a glimpse of an '08 Tribeca?
We were waiting for you to chip in with some insider info!
What's the scoop? I hear it will be an option, and not standard across the board. Should we assume that to mean only top trim models will be getting it?
Also, I heard it may have a timing belt, and not a timing chain, because the 3.0 with timing chains have proven to be funny about wanting to have oil changes done when required? If owners forget oil changes, they could run into some timing chain problems. Any truth to that?
Also, is this an all-new engine? Is it related to the current 3.0? Or is it basically a 2.5 engine with 2 extra cylinders added?
I really haven't heard much other that the '08 Tribeca will have an available 3.6 H-6. I haven't heard much news on the development so don't know if it is a 2.5 + 2 cylinders, a brand new H-6 family or a stretched 3.0. If I had to guess I would say a stretched 3.0.
I haven't heard of any timing chain issues with the H-6 so don't know if they are looking to replace with belt or not.
Let us know if you hear anything else and I will try and do some digging for particulars.
Here is my first post, but I have been follwoing this forum carefully the past month. I was ready to buy a 07 beca but decided to wait for the upgraded 08. Here is what the dealer has told me to date. The limited models will get the 3.6L engine(2-3K more), the standard will have the 3.0L. The 08 will also get a reworked front and rear end due to all the complaints.
Dealer said the 08's wouldn't be available till June 07 but my gut is telling me they will be released sometime in March. The inventories on the lots are shrinking fast and I haven't seen any delivered recently. I can't wait to get my hands on the 08, supposedly Subaru is posting a news release 01-07-2007 at the Detroit auto show. We will see what is what in the next few days.
Keep in mind, that right now you can buy a loaded '07 for $1K-$2K below INVOICE. I don't imagine that the '08's that are available in, more likely, August- will be going for that price. So, expect to pay $40K for one of these babies. Probably looking at $6-$7K more for those extra 25-30 ponies and a bland front end.
But- I've got a motorcycle for when I want accelleration and I like the front end. Go for what what strikes passion in your soul.
I agree you can get some great deals on the 07 becas, and I don't really mind the looks, but when the 08 is released the 07 resale value will drop considerably. I would rather wait for the upgraded 08 to be released before I buy.
As for the price you are also right, I expect the 08 to cost a few thousand more than the 07 base limited plus you won't see the prices below invoice on a brand new release. Fortunately, I belong to an organization that receives special discounting so I will be able to get invoice once the 08 are released.
My WS6 Trans-Am is for acceleration, the Tribeca is just a kid mover.
Having seen '06 7 pass LTD from my dealer at $29K, I would be crazy spending $40K on a B6. Even a Subaru loyal like me would prefer upgrading for a MDX. It happens that my local dealer sells both Acura and Subaru, so comparison is very easy, and the new MDX is just nicer
I guess so. Actually, the 07 is about 2.2k more. But it seems that the $1250 rebate is no longer available on the 07 while it has been bumped up to $3500 on the 06. I think you can get a new 06 7px LTD DVD-NAV for just a little over 30.5k now.
I wonder if 3 years from now, a 07 will sell for 2.2k more than an 06 taking into account the carrying cost of the extra 2.2k.
I'm wondering more if the technical improvements of the 07 are worth it.
Hello, I just purchased an 07 B9 Saturday (1/6/07) and was told the $1250 rebate is still in effect till the end of January. Carsdirect shows this as well.
Hi Morey, just wanted to thank you for the advice you gave me last week regarding making an offer on the B9. I felt much better informed and prepared, and I wasn't sitting around waiting for the dealership to get back to me. My husband was impressed with the deal; I told "I owe it to Morey!" Should be getting my B9 in a week or so. Thanks again!
"Having seen '06 7 pass LTD from my dealer at $29K, I would be crazy spending $40K on a B6."
Are you talking about a B9? Who's charging $40K for a Tribeca?
As far as the MDX, it's a nice vehicle. Is the 2nd row seat still as hard as the 01's. Do they still use that goofy, magnetically engaged, doesn't work above 18 mph, AWD system? The AWD (and my wife) was what made me say "no" to a Pilot.
I paid almost 40k for an 06 7 pass limited with dvd and NAV back when it first came out. I thought it sucked back then too spending almost 40k on a subaru but i didn't wait till i could get closer to invoice and instead only got 1000 off msrp when they weren't even giving that to anyone else and was only becasue my order was delayed etc. I was pissed at the dearl for not giving me a better deal especially since i was the one that located the one i wanted at another dealer who at first wouldn't cooperate in a dealer trade until i called that dealer and talked them into so the finding and making the dealer cooperate in dealer trade was all thanks to me and not my dearl i bought from yet they still charged me almost full msrp based on they knew i was set on those colors and options except the dvd but couldn't find one with all that had without dvd and dvd ended up being a blessing just for the rear aux audio input.
anyway if anyone does want to be an 06 with under 20,000 miles on it I would entertain the idea and you can open a private communication with me about it.
deal would include all improvements including 20" wheels and tires with tpms in place and working plus other official accessories and SE grille.
i dont see the value going down on the 06 and 07's just because of the 08.
in fact the pics we've seen of the new grille/front nose looks boring and like a standard GM or Ford car. i think many like myself who already like the current grille/nose will continue to like it much better then the new one toned down to appeal to the masses.
to me the 06 and 07 will be a 2 model year rarity and make them even more special. i would think about maybe just getting an 07 just for the aux audio input up front and integrated xm, small stuff like that in that case if i really dont like the 08 at all which i have a feeling i wont.
regardless i feel like the o6 and 07 will be rare and coveted'

You're quite welcome. Glad I could help. (although I don't think the dealer will be thanking me) So- since you took my advice once- I'll give you another piece: The male ego is very fragile. One of your roles as a wife is to hold, cuddle and protect your husband's ego and make him feel good about himself. So- don't tell him some other guy knew more about buying a car than he did. Just say you 'researched prices on the internet'. Then he can just be proud of you, without competition from some other guy he doesn't know (who's tremendously good looking, has a winning personality and wealthy).
Hello, last week I ordered a 2007 B9 Limited 7 pass...was told it would take one to four weeks to come from factory w/accessories I requested. Now I am told that none of these cars were allocated for New England for this month; I will receive my vehicle sometime late Feb to early March. Has anyone else experienced this waiting period? Dealer did tell me that if the Subaru incentive on 2007 B9 increases between now (-$1250) and the delivery date, they will apply that increase. Thanks for any feedback.
I just purchased a 07/lmtd/7pass/nav/backup cam /xm w/ the crome package. Love the car and I believe I got a good price in the New England area(RI). MSRP was 37,445 I paid 32 for the car. Just put nitrogen in the tires - WOW - what a difference. Would recommend this for every new car owner. I hope this helps in any new purchases.
Some of the benefits- no air loss -keeping tire pressure the same-therefore tire mon. does not go off/ helps longevity of tire/ there are a few more benefits dealing with brakes- can't remember all the the particulars. The car accelerates & stops smother. I have a friend who has a tire dealership - thought he was full of it,but he was right. The cars seems to float. It was $10.00 a tire. One of the local dealerships is going to start providing this service. I will get all the particulars if you want. I am sure there is someone out there more tech savy- Mel
I would venture to say that your ride improvement is not at all related to the nitrogen.
Pressure is pressure, when we are talking gas. Any minute difference in compressibility with bumps, cornering, etc. isn't going to be felt (except psychologically) by someone in the cab. Air is about 78% nitrogen anyway, as was mentioned.

Base and Limited aren't descriptive enough.

Every vehicle I've owned with remote unlock will relock itself within 1 minute if the doors are not opened.

Besides the Aux audio, backup camera and memory seats, is the new suspension design worth $3k?

I guess they decided not to expire the rebate on December 31st.
I suspect the rebate will increase on the 07 once the 06 inventory slims down.

Just keep in mind that a car costing $40k will depreciate twice as much as one that costs $20k.
I'm looking at used 06s and they aren't that cheap, usually $25-26k. You can get new 07s for $27k.

Maybe someone has want you want in stock. There's quite a lot of B9s in stock in the New England region.
It's the distributor.
Don't worry. The B9s aren't selling very well. Waiting is to your advantage. If you can locate what you wanted, your dealer is lazy.
