Jeepster
finally, i got around to it. they in my carspace.
i haven't used the camera in a while, so they could be better.

Yeah, that was the only one that wasn't up and running...the running ones ranged from $3500 to $16,000 bids (that one looked amazing).
I like your Stang. I always like that body style, probably because I entered high school when these were around and you'd see the older guys driving these. But I somehow prefered the looks to the next gen Mustang until it was freshened up in late 90s? (with more squarer look).
I remember I had a brochure for it too but I think it got lost.

He paid $4000 for it and put in another $2000 in repair work in the past year before he got too sick to continue. I'm sure he's got a file folder with receipts and work orders .. he left his desk in pretty good shape. My MIL just has to find everything. She "thought" it might need a carb, but I've no idea what shape the engine or transmission are in.
My seat of the pants estimate was between $3-5K, before I knew how much he paid for it. He started to write an ad that was asking $5500, so that may be a decent starting point.
Shifty, I'll contact you off-line once I get the documentation all pulled together and go from there.
17 years later, i guess i am comfortable with it.
But it's funny how the same car gets gets no respect as a 4 banger, and yet is a totally different car (opposite side of performance spectrum) with the 5.0L.

Here is the text of the ad he started to write:
Classic '49 Jeepster runs good, body good, interior good, all paperwork of repairs, owner's manual, Motto's repair book. Selling at a loss due to poor health. $5500
Anyway, once the paperwork surfaces, I'll have more information to share.

Since when is a lowly 300E 2.6 (or 260E) considered a collector's car??
If the owner can get 5 grand for it, he should take it. W124 sedans rarely bring more than that unless it's a Hammer or 500E. Even nice early coupes don't bring much more.

emerald green exterior with white top in interior.
And yeah, missing 12 years of service history defiently does not help his cause.
I wouldn't even pay him $5k for it. I prefer the freshened 92-95s versions of that model, as the colors , wheels, and just their trim looked more updated.

Here's a case where the person who takes this on will actually deserve every bit of punishment they receive.
went to hemmings today. no 91's but some seriously whacked prices being asked for others. :confuse:
Another unmolested car. This one is probably overpriced
79 Trans Am -- I see lots of problems here. For one, there is no VIN # posted, so we can't verify the engine; then, the paint job sucks; then the chassis underneath is just an "old car" that hasn't been touched.
I'd guess this is a tarted up car with original miles but not the best of care. The engine bay looks neglected as well. I'd say a clean driver could bring his price but this car is to my mind not much more than a "quicky flip" kind of vehicle.
someone thought this was a good idea?

I don't even know if it will work on 17" wheels. Specs for other ones I've read say 16" or 16.5".
Anyway, reason I'm even looking is because I went to Sears yesterday to inquire about having then swap my 2 sets of tires from one set of rims to the other (so 8 total demounts/mounts/balances). They quoted me over $200!! I think that's nuts. So I'm thinking a tire changer of some sort might be a good investment, considering how much I love racing and destroying tires. I'd certainly be willing to spend more than a couple hundred bucks, but I can't find anything like that. Its either this $50 unit or a $1500 hydraulic unit. I can't believe there is nothing in between.
I'm thinking I might enlist my father's help to build one.
By the way, been a bit over 2 weeks and only silence from the Alfa buyer. So I hope that's that. I figure either he got good news on the 2nd opinion, sold it, or talked to a lawyer and found out he's SOL. At least that's what I hope.

Tire changers re neat things to have, but I'm not sure if the cheap ones will do alloy wheels and low profile tires. We had one in my high school but they only worked on normal steel wheels.

Around here, it's $30-$35 each tire for mounting & balancing. It is depressing; Can eat up a lot of the savings by ordering from tire rack.
My father is asking around to see if he can locate something used.
Seems like other racers just pony up the $$. There are 2 groups, though. Those who seem to have the disposable income and get whatever they need, and those who don't and make do. I'm in the 2nd camp, but I don't wanna make do.
As for balancing, I've never had complaints about those I've balanced with a good ole bubble balancer.

A couple years newer and a different roofline saves you $60K? I'll take it and make 60K worth of mods.

59 Citroen Truckette -- oh I can just see it all painted up for some yuppie neighborhood "boulangerie". it might sell at that price.
67 Dodge Dart -- so he put an expensive custom motor into a '67 Dart with rusty floors and now he wants his money back? No. If we do that, you'll never learn.
51 Chevy 4-door -- so the Dr. Pepper decal makes it worth more? Explain that to me again....you know, it's just an "old used car". Is it worth $1800 bucks with no engine or transmission? Er, probably not, because nobody hot rods 4-doors. Try $995 and get 'er out of there.
95 Camaro Callaway -- hmmm....3 months in the body shop? Is this a code word for "salvage title"? Camaros of this era are fun to drive and competent cars but about the cheesiest built automobile on the road back then.
I actually like those cars...I think the '63 looks just right...you can tell it's trying to mimic the big '63 Fords, but it still looks nice in its own right. But if I were to get one, I'd want one that's in better shape than that!
Would that thing have a 2-speed automatic or 3-speed?
It would have the 2-speed Fordomatic. The optional 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic was introduced for the '64 model year, and I believe it was only available with the then new 289 V8.

I think one of the worst 0-60 times I ever saw for something of that vintage was for an early 60's Comet with the 144-6 and 2-speed automatic. While the Comet was based on the compact Falcon and not the midsize, it was plumped up to where it was about the size of a Fairlane or Meteor, and not much lighter. Anyway, I think 0-60 was around 27 seconds!
I guess it wouldn't be too bad cruising around locally. But merging onto a highway would take some planning.
The Dr. Pepper 1951 Chevrolet would look pretty cool restored, but I wouldn't consider it an investment. Maybe the Dr. Pepper company would be interested.
I think I'd rather have the stock 1964 Chevrolet Impala versus the stupid custom '62.
Barney's Dart? This guy isn't merely dreaming, but smoking blunts the size of telephone poles!
