    I knew it wasn't quite right for a Gilbern. The front end is sorta similar, though. And what's with that Aston Martin-esque fender vent? Is that original to the Peerless, or an owner mod?

    That's actually a 1950 Chevrolet. It's similar to a '49, but has raised horizontal lines on the two vertical bars of the grille below the parking lights. The 1951 Chevrolet has oblong parking lights in the lower bottom portion of the grille.

    I'm not sure about the Simca 8, It could be a Fiat, or a Simca 5 like this 1947>.

    Kinda hard to say what the fast back is, a Ford of some kind is the most likely.

    I tell you those old B&W French movies of the pre-New Wave era are a treasure trove of interesting cars, not all of them French, I'll be posting more of 'em.;)

    This was probably around 1986 or 1987. I wonder what that $175 would be worth in today's dollars. Maybe $500. I would love to know what happened to it after it got towed. Hopefully, it went to somebody who appreciated it more than us dumb teenagers.

    Maybe it is just my fading memory, but i don't remember ANYTHING being wrong with it. this was California, so rust wasn't an issue. Don't get me wrong, it didn't have shiny paint and a perfect body, but i don't recall anything worse than a few dings and the paint was about what you would expect for a 20 year old California car.

    I was trying to figure out what looked odd (in a good way) about that 47 Simca. I think it is the short overhangs and the tires/wheels filling the wheel well. Maybe it is just perspective since it is such a small car. Those are probably 13" wheels, but they sure fill the wheel wells better most 13s would.

    I don't know my huit from my cinq - it would be a Simca 5, not an 8. I just think that in Paris the chances are it would be the Simca rather than the Fiat.

    It is a really, really tiny car. Back in the day Topolinos were used as clown cars in the circus because the sight of any normal sized individual getting out of one in a clown suit would draw laughs and they were so darned cute while being imbued with that unmistakable Italian Style.

    Topolinos were made by NSU as well as Fiat and Simca.

    The vent looks odd to me - I think it must be an owner mod.

    Having now looked the Peerless and Warwick up (analogue - i.e. in a book) I think the car might actually be a Warwick, if it is a 62, as Peerless stopped in 1960, and passed the design on to Warwick, and the bonnet scoop makes me wonder if it wasn't a 3.5 litre, made only in 1961/2 - that had the Buick V8 that later appeared in just about every British sports car after Rover bought the design...

    I quick run thru Wikipedia and Motorbase on the subject of the Peerless /Warwick cars reveals that you are indeed correct, if it's a '62 it must be a Warwick. It can't be a 3.5, I can make out the chromed valve cover of the Triumph four, identical to the one in my '66 TR-4A. If Warwick had been able to export a V8 version to these shores they might have done reasonably well with it, it was a lot prettier than the hideous and little sold Daimler SP-250 V8.

    I could only find one picture of a Peerless or Warwick with a similar vent, it wore racing livery but small changes of this variety were common on limited production cars of the era which, like the aforementioned Spider California, were largely hand made.

    It's a Rambler American. First guess is it's a 1959, but I don't think there was any difference between '58, '59, or '60. :confuse:

    Pretty good shot for such a deliberately small slice of the actual pic, it's a 1958 Rambler American Deluxe Club Sedan(quite a long handle for a small, spartan car.!). I think there were tiny trim differences from year-to-year on those.

    Hyundai Pony. This one was registered in 1982/3. I think that would make it the second generation Pony, the first having been introduced circa 1975.

    It's not an Alpina, just a factory Z8, the V8 is the same 5.0 liter unit as seen in the E39 M5.

    Looks to me like a 2nd-generation Chevy/Geo Prizm (Toyota Sprinter clone), ca. 1998-2002. Is it that easy, or am I missing something?

    Not a car I'm familiar with (We never had the Toyota Sprinter as such, or the Geo or Chevy Prizm)

    Yep, regular old Chevy Prizm, which got the bowtie after GM folded Geo as a separate badge around 1997 or so. The Prizm was replaced by the Pontiac Vibe as GM's NUMMI ride in 2003.

    I want to say it's a 70s Holden Statesman, but those aren't Aussie or Kiwi plates, so maybe some kind of South African Chevrolet variant?

    A friend of mine just got back from NZ and brought me some magazines, including an Auto Trader. Wow, the superior GM products they have received over the years.

    IIRC lots of Holdens are sold in South Africa as well as in the Middle East
    (where they are often badged as Chevys)

    Correct. There were actually early 1955 trucks with this style until the real redesigned 1955 Chevrolet trucks debuted with a whole new look.

    When I bought that good old Chevy pick up truck, it had been used as a NJ Highway Dept. truck. (really used) (that was in 1960) when I became a police officer). A friend of mine sprayed it RED and another friend painted

    `"NORT DAVIS" light hauling and my phone# on both doors and I used that sucker for six years to supplement my ("$3000.00/year...no benefits at that time... police salary). I hauled refrigerators, junk to the dump, whatever...and it sure paid for itself.
