I don't think for a second that they "stuck it to us" with this truck. If anyone did any sticking it was us to them with our 96 GMC, we weren't honest about the truck and they ended up dumping it wholesale because it was so bad. I guess what goes around comes around. They will cut us a good deal, but its got to be worth our while.

As for the Dodge mechanics causing our truck's problem, no, they didn't. The torque converter was replaced in November by Anchorage Chrysler, so nothing to do with Gene's at all. I have a feeling its something to do with the transmission itself that's causing the problem. I'm pretty sure they are going to replace the tranny this time. Susan and Liz have been more than wonderful to us, I can't say a bad word about Gene's service department.

I think it is funny that the first thing service departments do is replace the torque converter when all it is is a pump if the torque converter dies normally it is because the transmission does not flow enough fluid to the torque converter.

I don't care what they do to it as long as they make it go without the assistance of a tow truck. Doesn't really matter anyway, it looks like we are getting a V10.......with any luck that is. I will be more than happy to see our white Dodge move on down the road and a new truck come in its place.

Well I could not get my Ram Quad cab ordered in March. Only one plant doing the Sport truck and they were booked solid. Today I finally saw the status move off restriction and the order is placed. I don't think I will get it until late May, but I am hopeful. I could not find any close to what I want so I ordered me a black one with 20's and all sorts of goodies! More to come...
  • stooges3stooges3 Member Posts: 18
I ordered a black sport on Feb 15th and I am still waiting for delivery. For the last two weeks the dealer claimed that the truck is in transit. I'll keep you posted.
  • magillamagilla Member Posts: 75
There are black sports galore out here in the cloudy, cold sand box that is Phoenix. I just don't understand why the dealers here think we're going to buy a black vehicle in this dusty oven of a city. You could have had your pick of black sport models here. The black ones are the ones they have to run specials on out here. I know of one dealer here that has 8 black, quad sports right now. Good luck. We all know you'll love the truck.
  • themanxthemanx Member Posts: 110
I ordered just about everything except the leather seats.. Hang in there Stooges! I share
your frustration too. I will post more info as I get it. The story I got was that there is a high demand on the SPORT versions and only one plant was doing them.

You guys got great taste in trucks! Mine is a 02 Sport SLT Black w/20". It looks very clean and I haven't yet added the custom aftermarket touches yet. I get alot of people eye-balling this truck. I'll install X-line lining, and steps next week. Good Truckin!
  • tracypitttracypitt Member Posts: 2
We had our '01 Quad Cab lined with the spray-in liner "Line-X". Great decision, I think you'll love it! We do.
  • newramfannewramfan Member Posts: 22
I wanted a black one too, but didn't want to wait on an order, plus one could not be located so I settled on graphite. Once I got the truck, I was so happy black could not be had. I love the dark metallic gray and wouldn't trade it for a black one even now, after 6 months. Mine is a sport with the 20's -- looks awesome as I'm sure yours does and the others will when they arrive. I have the spray in "Line-x" liner and absolutely love it. I researched other liners, but just wasn't as impressed with the finished result. I would recommend the "Line-x" liner to everyone.
  • fastappyfastappy Member Posts: 6
Line-X is what I meant, but yeah these trucks look tough, especially with the 20" wheels! With the Hemi coming out, I'm sure sales are just going to keep going up.

Could someone tell me the recommended transmission fluid change interval on the RAM 4.7L? Someone told me it was 12,000 miles, this seems unrealistic.
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
here is a novel idea...consult the owner's manual...!
  • brnzbkbrnzbk Member Posts: 33
Here is a even better idea. Why don't you shove it up your a##, I haven't bought my RAM yet so I don't have an owner's manual.

Here is another group on its way down. Sounds like the Ford/Chevy forum.
  • jcmdiejcmdie Member Posts: 594
I , for one, find nothing wrong with that question. I don't know the answer because I have a '98 5.9 liter which uses a different transmission. According to the "heavy service" definition, about 80% of the vehicles on the road qualify. Under the heavy service schedule both the 46RE and 47RE transmissions require trans service at 12,000 miles.

The topic is Dodge Ram Quad Cab. It is NOT each other. Stay away from personal comments about each other and stick to the trucks.

I really think edmunds should ban "emale" from the town hall. This guy is posting on almost every truck and sedan forum and constantly stirring up trouble. I wish "emale" would realize that these forums are not here for his own twisted enjoyment.

Do any of you know of a remote start system that will work for the RAM Cummins?
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
i just checked my s-crew owner's manual for the tranny service intervals. severe duty requires tranny fluid changes every 30k miles. i can't imagine dodge's 4.7l/45rfe would be any lower than that! i understand more frequent changes behind the cummins diesel, but behind the 4.7l a 12k interval tranny fluid change would be quite excessive.

btw, lasher5, look at my history list. doesn't at all jive with what you've said...

I took my truck home today and I love it! The only thing I goofed up on is that it slipped by me that the rear 60-40 bench seat was an option, and the dopey salesman never brought it up when I ordered the truck so I wound up with a full lift up seat. I had a Dakota quad and the split rear seat was included so I never gave it a second thought when I looked at the Ram. Kind of a downfall when you have a carseat in the back always buckled in. Outside of that I have no complaints. The black sport is beautiful.
  • jcmdiejcmdie Member Posts: 594
The 5.9 that I mentioned was the gas engine in the 1500 series truck. The 2 automatics that were offered prior to 2002 were the 46re and 47re. Regardless of which engine is in front of the trans, the service schedule calls out to service the trans every 12,000 miles under "severe service". The trans behind the the 4.7 is new to the 1500 series truck and I have not got 1st hand information on that particular unit, but in the recent past every drivetrain combo available called for 12,000 mile service.
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
the 46re and 47re are still in production for '02. the 46re is connected to the 5.9l gas engine. the 47re behind the cummins. it would be interesting to see if the 45rfe (new tranny only with 4.7l) requires such frequent changes... for those of you buying new rams, i hope not!
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Having just traded in a 2001 Ram 2500 5.9L with the 46RE transmission I can say that the transmission is horrible. I can see the fluid changes being that frequent. Our transmission lasted until 20,800 miles, it also had a torque converter done at 12,200 miles, so it got the fluid changed then. The dealer put a rebuilt tranny in the truck and it was worse than the first one. Our truck seemed to have problems with the torque converter and that altimatly was the demise of the tranny.....I was on my way to the service department for a new torque converter when the darn thing came apart and shredded the tranny. Needless to say I was hitching a ride.

On a bright note, we did trade the truck for a 2002 Ram 2500 quad cab longbed V-10 with the 47RE tranny. I can tell you right now that the 47RE is much better than the 46RE.

From what I can gather from the dealer, the 46RE transmission is not too good for 2001, they changed manufacturers for the front pump and it has been causing mega problems. All I know is I was more than happy to say bye-bye to our 2001.

My "B" maintenance schedule requires auto trans oil and filter changes at 30K miles on both auto transmissions. What I found surprising was that the front and rear diffs oil needs to be changed at 12K intervals. Has Dodge had trouble with the diffs? Trans case scheduled for oil change at 60K. Not too bad except for the diff oil changes. Might go back in with synthetic oil and try to extend that a bit. Wonder how that would affect the extended warranty?

I recently purchased a set of used nerf bars for my 2002 ram quad. No instructions were given. Could somebody let me know how easy it is to take off the bolts to the frame to apply the brackets. I tried with a cresent wrench without luck. I may need powered tools. And how tight does it go back on ie. as tight as I can get it without stripping? If its like changing a tire let me know. I have not taken off frame bolts before and it makes me a bit nervous. Thanks. Doug

Okay, anybody been able to see a RAM in Forest Green? I've looked at three dealers and have yet to see one.

The paint quality on the new RAM is probably the best I've ever seen on a inherently domestic product -- ever! Everyone I've looked at has been flawless. They seem even better than the Tundras, in my opinion.

I had a choice between forest green and silver when i got mine last week....went with the silver...the forest green is the pearl coat...not as shiny and they both were a little dirty and the forest green looked filthy while the silver wasnt noticible from a few feet away...plus the silver had the interior i wanted..

Anybody have any opinions about the 4-wheel disc brakes versus the standard front drum/rear disk? Truck is already ordered so I need to decide quick if I want to add the 4-wheel disc option.
  • pushplaypushplay Member Posts: 52
They are far superior. They have the shortest stop distance of any truck by far. Somebody here could probably tell you were to look that up I had seen it on TV.

4 wheel disc brakes are standard on the Ram 1500, you may be thinking of the ABS which is standard on the front and optional on the rear.
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
Have you seen many Forest Green where you are and where are you located?

  • brnzbkbrnzbk Member Posts: 33
I have. I went to my dealer lot today to look at my new RAM I will be picking up tomorrow, and I noticed a 2wd Forest Green with the Taupe interior . It had the standard chrome wheels, looked pretty good! Green is not my favorite color, but I was surprised at how nicely it looked.
  • sailboatsailboat Member Posts: 21
Okay, so 4-wheel disc w/ rear anti-lock is standard. Must of been thinking about our crappy suburban! So any opinions on the otional ABS for the front wheels?

I've not seen any green around. Lots of silver, charcoal, and red. some blue
  • stooges3stooges3 Member Posts: 18
Four wheel discs are great! The only drawback is that now all four wheels get black and grimey instead of two. Has anyone noticed how nice Dodge planned the plastic piece under the wipers that fits even with the hood to keep out leaves and other debris? Nice touch! Although, they could have bought a new marking pen and wrote some numbers on the guages like the Dakota has. The oil and temp. guages are completely useless if your looking for accuate readings.
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
.................and Light Almond I've yet to see. A few red, black, and Dark Garnet are around. Quite a few Bright Silver and Graphite Metallic. My local dealer had a white with the 20" wheel package. It looked pretty good even though it would probably be my last choice in colors. The Patriot blue seems to be the most common around here. I've probably seen a dozen of them on local roads.

How odd, I just bought a Patriot Blue RAM and it is one of a few that I have seen around town. I live in St. Louis (approx. 2mil. metropolis) and had to do a locate from Illinois to get mine. It's odd how color tastes seem to be geographical. Anyway, I love my truck.

What are Nerf Bars? Are they the bars that attach to the lower portion of the truck to act as a STEP to get into the truck? Or are Nerf Bars the bars that hold the KC lights? We used to call them headache racks.

Where can I find my options for STEPS into the new Quadcab? Are there options or a chip that can swapped on the engine to increase power to compete with the Chevy?
  • jdtopperjdtopper Member Posts: 58
are installed on (or in front of) the front bumpers. You have probably seen them on police or highway patrol units. They use them to push a stalled or wrecked vehicle out of the way, or when they "bump" a vehicle they are chasing to cause them to lose control.

At least, that's how I remember them...

Has anyone put a camper shell on their QC. I plan to and I just wanted to get some feed back and thoughts about brands, styles etc.

Just bought my new Quad Cab SLT today and received a great deal. Got the 24G package.

List price before discount was $26,615 after all the rebates and dealer incentives I paid $19,998. Love it!!!!

Nerf Bars are the tubular bars that are mounted underneath the cab in between the front and back wheels and act as a step. I have installed Westin Platinum Plus Nerf Bars on my '02 Quad Cab and they look awesome. It was a definite help to my 7 month pregnant wife allowing her to get in and out of the truck. Well woth the money.

I'm looking at a Patriot Blue QC w/ almost the same sticker price as you. The lowest my dealer says they will go is invoice +$500, which is in the neighborhood of $24400. But thats just what he told me when I was looking it over. When I go back to negotiate, I'm hoping to get the kind of deal you did.
