You would be afraid of the menards i work at seriously its in the best of neighborhoods one reason i dont take my truck there. Ive almost been in about 3 fights with customers. One guy about 3 yrs back got shanked with a knife. Its amazing what we see. Trust me its not the yuppie lifestyle
in the service related industry, you gotta learn that the customer is always right, no matter what...just because he wants a pallet on his escort to carry one bag of cement....then you whip out your trusty clipboard have him sign his name, releasing you from all claims...load his pallet, and send him on your way...I install Telephone Equip. and I could write a series of books of the stupid things people do or want, but no matter what, your the service provider, they are the customer...and the customer is always right....let them be the one to tell their boss that their right decision cost them a couple grand instead of the $120 service call.
Sorry that I got off topic...Are we still talking Crew Cabs?
Actually i dont have to load anyone up. Menards is a SELF SERVICE lumber yard did you all know that? DOnt get me wrong i help everyone but i dont have a smile on my face all the time. I only work saturdays and sundays cause of school so its not that bad working it basically pays for gas and insurance.
Bow the customer isnt always right. I could give you many examples. For instance we take returns as many stores do. We have a policy you can not return open bundles of shingles. How come every customer wants to come in and return 15 bundles of open shingles who is gonna buy it? Where do you think it goes? it goes in the garbage. But they always think we have to take it back and we dont. Oh yea we have a big sign that says we are not responsible for any damage we cause. Recently some guy hot a van with the forklift. The guy was compensated through insurance.
I was reading an article the other day about the new 4.5L V-6, 245HP, 400 Ftlbs diesel LEV engine that will debut in the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator late in 2001 and will be available in all of the F-150s in 2003. If I recall correctly, the Diesel will be manufactured by International. Does anybody know what kind of reputation International has for building diesel engines? I'm a bit concerned whether or not the stock automatic transmission in the F-150s will hold up to the extra torque, especially when towing. Perhaps Ford will be smart and offer a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission on the F-150s . The article also mentioned that 2002 will be the last year that they will offer the 7.3L diesel engine. A new 6.0L diesel engine will supersede the old 7.3L and boasts to have slightly more torque, better mpg rating and cleaner burning. Diesel engine in an F-150 super crew, sounds pretty good to me. Hope the quality will be there.
Up here in Alaska where a lot of the oil comes from we are paying $1.64. Anyway the new Ford diesels sound like they are going to be a great line of engines, they are made by international (navistar) which is who made the power stroke. One of the main advances on the new diwsels is that they are a camless diesel they use solenoid valves and hydraulics to operate the valves as a result there is substantially less emissions, and the normal diesel "clatter" is gone.Another thing is that withthe camless design the engine creates its own exahust brake. If I remember right there is an article about them in the july Popular science.
I have a durango and my F250 Crew Cab gets better gas mileage, so don't say that mileage factor would of been better with the Quad Cab. You could of had a smaller truck with just as bad gas mileage, but then again,a person doesn't buy a F250 Crew Cab for it's mileage either,if you know what I mean. If you want mileage buy a yugo....
(bowhuntwi2) You're correct in saying that there is very little difference in mpg rating between the 4.7L V-8 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Quad cab Automatic and the 5.4L V-8 F-250 4x4 Crew Cab 5spd manual. I don't remember stating that the F-150 or the Dakota Quad got any better mpg rating than the F-250. To clarify, I simply meant that had I purchased the Dakota Quad cab or the F-150 super crew, my wife could have driven one of those units to her work, because they would have fit in any of the parking spaces. When we first purchased the F-250 crew cab , my wifes work hours were very early in the morning and there were plenty of parking spots available that she could back the F-250 into. Once her hours were changed to a later start time, all of the "extra large" spaces were all filled up by the time she got there. I never had any delusions of good MPG rating with the F-250 or the other two, it was just a combination of several unforseen circumstances that prompted us to sell my F-250, including a layoff notice from my wifes work.
Drywall (1/2x4x8) was $9 something this spring $8 this summer and now fall/winter its $4.88 on sale for $4.33 this past wk.
Brand hmmm we dont just have 1 brand we carry a few. Whatever the guy in wisconsin buys thats what we get. WHatever comes off the truck. Right now i forget offhand its the red white and blue paper. Goldbond is another we get. And theres a third. I cant remember the names offhand havent worked in awhile. I only work every other weekend there. Mainly just to keep the 10% discount and to make gas $$$
(Lariat1) Thank you for the information on diesels, I logged onto the International Corp. Web site and once I realized just how big of a Diesel engine manufacturer they were, I was a bit embarassed in having asked how popular their engines were. I new that the powerstroke was made by Navistar, but had no idea that they were a branch of International. Anyway, the solenoid/hydraulic configuration sounds very promising .
damn never thought of that. Build a house for free.
She would like that but her parents wouldnt
Her mom had a talk with her last friday night for about an hr and the base was that we are getting to serious. All because at her softball party her friend asked if we were getting married.
AHHHHHHHHH no we were in her friends basement playing N64 (no mercy) and pool and her friends were questioning me first time they relaly met me. Her mom came down and the one girl asked us if we were gonna get married.
Spent about an hour test driving a XLT 4x4 4.6l. I was truly impressed with the build quality and comfort of the truck. The bed offers plenty of room for my purposes, and if I go with the bigger motor, I will have more tow capacity than I will need (better to have too much than too little -- especially on those high alititude hills).
I did notice, however, that the back end was a bit jumpy on rough turns. At one point, it skipped out on me at about 30 mph on a bumpy exit curve. Has anyone else experienced this? Can you equip the truck in a way to minimize the hopping (other than loading it down). It did not have the Off Road package, so I'm assuming it didn't have the HD shocks.
Just want to say, I have driven full-size Fords for decades. This past spring, I was determined to get a Supercrew. By accident, I noticed the Dakota Quad. After thoroughly examining the pros and cons, I now have a 01 Quad with 4.7. I pull a 4500 lb 24' boat and the Quad will do the job just fine. The things that persuaded me, were; better price; garageable; better fit in parking spaces; ride comfort and the 4.7 engine. Yes there were many advantages to the Supercrew, but when it came down to the brass tacks, I was not willing to pay several thousand more for those advantages.
Which axle ratio do you have in your Quad? Do you have the HD package? I've been told that these are essential when your towing anything more than 4000 lbs.
I have an oppurtunity to buy a NEW 2000 Crew Cab Long Bed 4x4 Dually with a 350 V8. It's got the 4.10, posi-, leather, EVERYTHING for a good price. Would you do it? I'm not pulling any big stuf with it, just my family 90% of the time, towing a 7500 lb. 5th wheel somtimes. Let me know. --rodger
bobs5, Just got my new Quad Cab. 4.7, 5 speed, 3.92. The max trailering weight is 6100 lbs. That is with 700 lbs tongue weight. 1450 on cargo weight. By the way it is 2wd. with sport handleing package and HD service Group. I also looked real hard at the Super Crew before I Ordered the Dodge. I felt it was the most bang for my buck. And I still feel the same after I drove a Ford for a week and then got into my new Dodge.
Forgot to ask you the question I wanted to post before. What RPM are you running at 60MPH? I am at 2000 even. I do have the 255/65 R16 tires on my truck.

My 2500 calls for 80 max..but I run 40..
Good Luck

HD service group would be advisable to get also.
4.7l, 5spd.,3.55 rear axle, has a max trailer weight of 4850 lbs. (this is on my window sticker)
I believe that with the 3.92 axle the max trailer weight is increased by 1000 lbs.
Max trailer weight does not include fuel, passengers, cargo weight.
