And Intellichoice, and TrueDelta, and Strategic Vision.
Yet Toyota/Lexus still scores well with all of those sources.
Quality may be down from the peak levels, pre-cost cutting, but that doesn't means they're not still well above average.
An Audi I took a road trip in, S4 convertible (HECK of a car), had an awful MMI system and could not find a Subaru dealer in PA.
To be honest I think Audi intentionally left out Subaru dealers so owners with problematic Audis don't get any funny ideas...LOL.
Chrysler seems to be putting the govt funds to good use. The Pentastar V6 puts out impressive power and it if proves to be reliable should him them a significant boost, since it is going in so many products.
The interiors look hugely improved as well. Far fewer seams and soft surfaces. They seem to be moving in the right direction to say the least.
I think some updates didn't go far enough, but give them one full generation for every products, and keep this up, and their future looks bright.

porsche boxter....huh?
Got a letter telling me the fix for the potential rust issue on the spare tire chain is ready, so time to take it in again.
I'm not surprised to see Porsche on there. The brand has improved steadily and been rated highly from several sources recently.
The other thing is that a Porsche is valuable and likely to be well taken care of. Someone might neglect a $9999 econobox like a Versa, but if you buy a Porsche you're going to take care of it, service it regularly, to protect your investment.
For me the list has no surprises at all. Fusion has scored well, also from a variety of sources.

The above link references the Toyota Corporate response to the settlement, and they comment on how Bob Baker Lexus wants the amount publicized, while Toyota and the families don't want it out to the public. And the reason is they say that Bob Baker Lexus wants Toyota to take the heat away from them and their overall blame for the whole incident.
One thing the passage of time and the lack of mechanical/electronic reasons for the SUA incident in the Saylor rental car or any of the other SUA incidents should be telling us is that the real reason for that horrible San Diego, CA, crash is simply the wrong floor mat placed in the Saylor rental Lexus ES 350 sedan. From a Lexus SUV. The reading from the Toyota link references all of this and is an interesting read.
Since no one can seem to recreate the event with Toyota drivetrain electronics, or links to any other mechanical system like brakes or cruise control, leads one to believe that there really are no electronic gremlins to discover here. Or there.
And in November 2011 comes the Toyota FT-86, or what eventually may become the Scion FR-S. RWD Coupe and possible sedan, 6-speed transmission and very driftable. Just doin' a little prepping for the future here.

If Toyota and the plaintiffs told the truth. It is a secret document. Who has copies other than those involved. And they both were against letting the world know. Did $10 million include the lawyers fees? I don't think we will find out anymore than they wanted US to know.
Bob, do you have to give the court a copy of an out of court settlement?
And Corporate, right?
2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick
Though it would seem that Toyota could have made this go away sooner by joining forces with their dealer and settling the whole thing once and for all. What was Toyota thinking? Did they believe they were free from the whole thing? It seems like a poor decision by Toyota legal management team. Or was it just to generate more hours for the law firms?
BarkerBaker because of strong dealer franchise laws. It would make sense to combine forces and make it go away, but Toyota is probably dealing with BB's insurance company more than the dealer and they must have a different agenda.Final week for new topic name suggestions folks.
San Diego Toyota Crash Settlement: $10,000,000
I stick to my original opinion that a second floor mat on top of another one, should not be a problem.
Sent there by a kamikaze eh?
Hope all had a Merry Christmas.
I am having such a good laugh every time I see one of these Buick ads where they are pulling the Christmas wrapping off some other luxury brand's car, then they see the Buick driving down the street, and jaws drop, and I guess we are supposed to think they immediately wish they had a Buick instead.
After all the years of December To Remember TV ads with a Lexus with a big red bow on top, Toyota kind of had this coming. :-P
Although I have noticed they aren't all Lexus - at least one I saw had a an Acura TL in it instead.
And then, of course, they launch into the tirade of incentives - a couple of thousand cash back PLUS 0% 5 year financing PLUS no payments until spring. If it were really the most desirable car as the ad implies, would it need all those incentives to sell? They have kind of gone overboard - neither Lexus nor Acura has 0% OR no payments until spring, and I don't suppose Acura has cash back either.
OTOH, I see that BMW now has, according to its TV ads, $2500 cash back on all models if you finance with them.
2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)
I think that amount is only on the 7 series. Its much less (eithet 500 or 1500) on the other models.
But I will say again....if it's true..
For the record, in case posters haven't been able to tell whether I am pro Toyota or con, I am neither...altho if i had to pick a side, I would probably be pro Toyota. I have owned several over my many years, have had sweethearts (my old Corolla 1200) and I have had disappointments (my turbo diesel 2.4 4x4 p/u) which got barely better fuel mileage than its gas engine cousin in the same truck. Or the Land Cruiser which had a wonderful NA 3.4 4 cyl dsl yet rusted away right before one's eyes. That NA engine which was 1 litre larger in a vehicle over 1000 lb heavier got way better FE. I have learned that with Toyota, as with so many other brands, all models of the brand are not created equal. There are great cars and there are duds. I have learned that just because there is a certain name on it, does not mean it must be a good car.
Well, I'm off to a family dinner where there will be no less than 6 Toyotas, 1 Mazda, 1 Honda (mine) 1 BMW (diesel, drool) and 1 Nissan.
Vehicles from the same families who have other makes left at home tonight, are: 2 Ford p/u, 1 Jag (waiting on drivetrain backordered parts) and 1 Toyota.

Link: Soaring dissatisfaction
Interesting to note in that chart that whatever a "complaint" is, the number of complaints is up on average for all brands. The only brands with lower numbers of complaints in 2010 than their 5-year running average were Mitsubishi (where there's no-one to complain because they don't sell any cars any more) and Jag/LR.
I'm glad to see Sube is sailing along right at the top of the chart. :-)
I'm loving my OBS, my only complaint is I wish I had bought a WRX instead!
Toyota should take a page from its new subsidiary and let Subaru show them how to do things in a way that doesn't cause customers to complain.
2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)
According to LA Times, the complaints were the ones filed to the NHTSA.
One: the events with Toyota have made people aware they can complain to the Federal Government and make a difference. So they jump on the bandwagon.
Two: Toyota has not lived up to what people expected to get when they bought a Toyota, based on past experience.
Another factor: there is no love lost between Toyota and the LA Times. Maybe Edmund's will verify the chart as being their data.
You make three valid points. I would, though, like to see the data behind these complaints as to how many are SUA or similar type complaints and how many are 'bandwagon' I hate Toyota this year complaints.
Except we know that it was in the case of Bernard, who drove the exact same car.
$10 million is a pittance for 4 deaths after lawyers fees. Surviving family members will probably get about 12 cents each.
Bob Barker I mean Baker Lexus is not off the hook by a long shot.
Much easier, and double standards run rampant in this thread.
I say we should change the name so that other brands can be compared - perhaps How Would Other Brands Handle Toyota's Woes?
GM would blame Dateline.
Chrysler would seek protection from bankruptcy court.
Ford would blame Toyota.
:P
2 points....
First, Automotive News ran a report about those and said the problem rate was in the order of 2%. The article was critical, BTW. So in fairness, 98% of them were fine.
Second, if an engine made it 10+ years, then it really becomes a matter of how well the car was maintained, not how well it was built.
Yeah but we all know 80% of those are from 3 or 4 people in this thread, LOL!
Just kidding.
Actually, Gary nailed it.
Wanna bet Toyota does MUCH better next year? Remember NHTSA complaints were down 80% already.
I was shocked to read about this sludge problem. Amazingly (to me) this was the first I had ever heard of it. And it took me 2 hours to find out that only the 3l V6 was involved. So i admit, i was wondering if the story had merit since one specific engine was involved. My assumption being, that that same 2% crowd would abuse their 2.4 Camry engines just as readily as the 3litre owners. So from that I was wondering if there really was a design flaw going on here somewhere.
I don't think so, because that's still a higher rate than other Toyota models and the industry norm.
Still, the problem wasn't NEARLY as widespread and some people would like to believe. Plus those 2% were covered by a 100,000 mile extended warranty.
Funny thing is Castrol capitalized the most - by running ads that their oils protect against sludge.
If it was plated in the USA you can probably blame the EPA. Probably why so many automakers are making plastic bumpers. yuck, I like heavy chrome bumpers on my trucks. My 2008 Nissan has no signs of rust. Being in CA could be the difference.
PS
Welcome to the forum. Do keep US informed on your Tacoma.
Dominated by imports. Toyota still has the highest share overall, even though Prius and Corolla have dropped.
Gas prices are creeping up, I wonder if that'll get more people to look at hybrids again?
Sonata skyrocketed up 24 spots! Wow!
Just read a wonderful article about the cops in Queensland AU buying 100 Camry Hybrids. When they got delivered they realized their electronics & stuff would not fit in the tiny trunk. Typical government operation.
QUEENSLAND Police have been left red-faced over its choice of new "green" patrol cars.

I disagree.
First, the complaints were the ones filed to the NHTSA. I don't think people would file a complaint to the government for a cup holder.
Second, if anyone would indeed file such complaint, it should not be the Toyota owners only; it would evenly apply to all brands. So it would still be a fair data.
We have a friend who has a relative working for Toyota in a non-unionized plant. They have nothing but good things to say about how well they are treated. Why would they WANT a union to bugger things up?
Surprisingly they do:

Anyway...I thought the interior was nice, but I was not impressed with the ride. The car had 247 miles on it. It didn't "glide" like a camry or as smooth as the camry 4......
So the Fusion with the 4 seemed buzzy, not as peppy as I expected from a car getting all these rave reviews, but it was a nice wine/red/cranberry color, and the cluster was attractive.

The number of existing Prius owners alone who will upgrade will be enough to make it a hit.
The Queensland AU story reminds of a bank I read about umpteen years ago. They build a new main office with a fancy basement garage that the Brinks trucks could drive into and lock the door behind them. Was going to make it more secure for transferring the cash around.
The architect neglected to measure Brinks trucks in relation to the sloping ramp to the basement however and they wouldn't fit.
