We have said all along it is not cars causing GW.
The sheep answered back, "yeah, but does that Prius have real wool?"
Reminds me of an old Naugahyde joke.
LOL
Remember the "smug emissions" from South Park? Hysterical.
I can think of at least one example from a video I saw recently! LOL

drivers who are bored behind the wheel are more likely to put the right pedal to the floor
You guys keep saying Toyota are boring, so I guess all Toyotas fall within that 31%, right? ha ha
Although Entune integrates with Bing, the system is not based on Microsoft's automotive platform
So different platform than SYNC & MyFord Touch.
I thought Toyota's market share is only 15%!
the one thing that bothers me is the his foot was already on the brake.
after contacting the other car, why step on the gas?
after shifting into drive, i can see letting off the brake, not slamming the gas and making no attempt to turn.
In CT we had a trooper killed several months ago.
He had stopped someone and was parked on the highway shoulder writing a citation when a truck crashed into the cruiser.
Headliners and gloveboxes?
All this time, I have bought cars for the wrong reasons. :lemon:
Remember, I'm Community Leader for the Subaru Crew. I'm not even a Toyota guy.
My 1991 Escort had a soft, padded dash board. That's something you don't see in many vehicles that hit $40 grand loaded up nowadays (Escape hybrid, RAV4, Equinox, to name a few).
So I got better materials for 1/4 the price.

To be honest, I just don't get that.
Based on sales, others must have different priorities.
Remember him?
The disgruntled ex-employee who stole tons of documents, then tried to help lawyer Todd Tracy with lawsuits against Toyota? He also claimed he was hired to conceal the "Books of Knowledge".
The rub? There was nothing in those documents to show Toyota tried to hide anything. Tracy said so himself, then dropped the suit.
But the story didn't end there - Toyota took the case to arbitration, and won big.
Biller counter-sued for defamation and fraud and the arbitrator ruled against both of those claims.
Biller? He had no comment to the press, LOL. He also represented himself (a sign he may be a few french fries short of a Happy Meal).
Source is Automotive News, read off my BlackBerry.
Yes, opinions from both sides are well needed and appreciated to keep it balance. Thanks

Toyota wins $2.6 million ruling against ex-attorney Dimitrios Biller
In Japan, who sells the most cars ? American ? European ? Nope. Its the big 3 Japanese. Are their quality the best ? Maybe yes, maybe no. I don't have solid proof of that. And never will.
In big car buying countries in Europe like France and Germany, which brands sells the most ? American ? Nope. Japanese ? Also Nope. Not surprisingly, European brands sell the most there. Brands like VW, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen etc rule the car kingdom there. Are their quality the best ? Again, who knows ? But I am sure its not that bad, because nationalistic many people maybe, if the quality really sucks, people will avoid them.
In Korea, who sells the most ? GM ? No. toyota ? No. You may have guessed it by now. The big king is Hyundai, with a market share of close to 100% I think. The Koreans are THAT Nationalistic FYI. Go to Korea and you will be amazed that the huge majority of cars on the road are Hyundai, and some Kias.
So EVEN if American authorities tend to "prefer" the domestics ? You should not be surprised. Trust me, if the same thing happens in Japan, the Japanese will defend toyota much more than GM / Ford there. Same if it happens in Korea. Hyundai will get "special" treatment.
And I am not surprised that today, GM and Ford still holds the biggest market share in the US. Their quality is not as bad as some people think today (Not decades ago). And with toyota increasingly exposed for what they are, there is nothing wrong / surprising abt what some Americans wanting to do what most Japanese / Europeans / Koreans do, and that is, to support American brands !
Think abt this, EVEN if one day there is SOLID proof (jd power is not) that Ford's quality exceeds toyota by a big margin, Ford will NEVER be no.1 in Japan. Because the Japanese are simply too Nationalistic to want to give their money to foreign brands.
Even if those Fords sold in Japan are already manufactured in a Ford factory in Japan, uses Japanese labour......
And you will realise one thing : Even if the brand you are searching for is not toyota, the number of videos / links that turned up is STILL predominantly toyota ! And I can't even find one Nissan SUA video ! But you want to find videos abt toyota's SUA problem ? Soooooo MANY !!
I think jd power got their rankings UPSIDE DOWN. Someone at jd who did all those rankings must have pressed the sort button and put all those with most problems like toyota up close to the top of the charts.
I mean, if there are also many Nissans, hondas, Fords etc who suffer from SUA problems, at least you will expect plenty of coverage not just in the media, but in popular sites like youtube, where the proof is more compelling (video vs words).
Again, youtube indicates that toyota's SUA cases are thousands of miles ahead of other brands lower than them on jd's chart.
Maybe JD feels that SUA is a much smaller quality problem compared to like squeks and rattles and other minor nuisances. But I am just being sarcastic. I am still convinced that toyota bribed jd.

But there are indeed plenty of toyota SUA videos. Folks, verify it for yourself on Youtube.
And one more thing folks if you think using Youtube is not enough, why is it that toyota have so many SUA lawsuits, yet Nissan, Honda, Hyundai etc have none or so few that we don't hear abt it ? Is it because Nissan, Honda, Hyundai customers are much more forgiving ?
Try to answer this simple question.
Because the LEAF have NO tailpipe in the first place.
SHIFT_ZERO Emissions.
Welcome to the REAL GREEN CAR ! the prius is still a polluter, just on a smaller scale. And still needs petrol from Saudi Arabia.
American makes have another handicap - the large cars favored here are less suitable for narrow roads in Europe, and tiny parking spaces in Tokyo. Though I will say - the Asians have adapted their cars, and sell a bigger Accord/Camry here than they do at home. The domestics haven't really done the opposite.
You asked me to find a similar video to the 87 year old who left the betting parlor (which is a type of bar, BTW), well, come to think of it, that was just a display of impaired or bad driving, not SUA.
SUA = Sudden Unintended Acceleration
That video showed us gradual, slow crashing. Nothing sudden about it.
Let's have some fun with this, those videos are all over the place:

Just watch one and then click the links at the end - lots of them are funny.
So the retired federal judge ruled "decisively in favor of the automaker". A huge, huge victory.
Biller had $3.7 million worth of severance so I'm sure Toyota will collect every penny.
Regarding the Leaf: it's not true zero emissions. It's remote emissions. Just because there is no tail pipe doesn't mean they didn't have to burn dirty coal (still the biggest source in the USA) to provide the electric charge. The zero label is a total scam.
Stand behind a LEAF and inhale deeply. Nothing will happen to you.
Stand behind a PRIUS and inhale deeply. Nothing will happen to you.
Think about it - if you are standing still, the Prius isn't moving, so the engine is off.
And still needs petrol from Saudi Arabia.
Actually most of our imported oil comes from Russia.
I didn't waste my time on the last three. If one of those actually includes a real indication the driver is aged, has visted a bar, is mentally impaired, etc., to indicate those things cause SUA in OTHER vehicles than toyotas.
Remember, your excuse was that the SUAs in toyotas were caused by these factors, therefore the toyota vehicle was not a factor. If so, other brands would suffer SUA as well by aged, drinking, betting, drivers. But your video links do not show that.
Hence, the original toyota excuse is false.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Not if I'm reading this chart correctly.
U.S. Imports By Country of Origin
Canada is far & away our biggest supplier, followed by Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela & Nigeria. Russia appears to be number 6 on the list.
It's no coincidence that our leading supplies are nearby. Oil is expensive to transport. So of course Canada and Mexico are our top suppliers.
Russia has just passed Germany as the number one auto buyer in Europe. No mention of Toyota in the mix. Two large growing markets that Toy/Lex is missing out on.
Little wonder foreign carmakers are rubbing their hands with glee and rushing to set up or expand production in Russia. Many, including Ford (F), Renault, General Motors (GM), and Volkswagen (VOWG.DE), already have plants there. Others, including Nissan (NSANY), Hyundai, Peugeot (PEUP.PA), and Mitsubishi, have factories under construction. A second General Motors factory, in St. Petersburg, is due to open next year.

Wrong, one event. I was talking about one specific video, where the driving is (sorry to criticize the deceast, but) impaired.
You're wrong about my position on the SUA occurences. Read back at my posts - the CTS pedals were in fact defective and 1.8 million or so out of the 2.3 million made have been replaced. Any video on YouTube is probably just showing one of those cars, and I'm not disputing that now, nor have I ever.
The one video we are talking about shows an elderly man driving very erratically and causing two collisions before the car ever speeds off. You've still not acknowledged that was driver error. Multiple errors, actually.
Remember, your excuse was that the SUAs in toyotas were caused by these factors
WRONG.
I am smart enough to wait-and-see, look closely, case-by-case.
Sikes? Everyone was jumping to conclusions, I was patient. A week later I was cracking up at all the porn jokes, sharing the best ones. Unintended Insemination, remember? I never jumped to conclusions.
Saylor? Again, I said let's wait-and-see. Bernard drove the same car and said he experienced mat/pedal entrapment. The case was settled, but sealed, so we will never know.
The Camry that sped off that ramp in to the water? I was the one pointing out the skid marks cast doubt on the idea that the driver was braking. The investigation is still pending. I never jumped to any conclusion about that case, either.
Now the 87 year old man, Leon Przybylowski, who jumped to conclusions on that? YOU did.
You already assumed the blood alcohol test was done because you said the lawyer would not have filed the case without it, but we don't know if that's true or not. It could be, but at least I'm waiting for the investigation, no jumping to conclusions from me.
The real reason you've been afraid to answer my question is that you would have to admit you overlooked the impaired driving and just assumed it was all the Toyota's fault.
If you include domestic oil then Saudi Arabia is only the 4th biggest supplier.
Point being, I don't put much talk or focus on other markets b/c there are so many factors that shape each market its hard to compare them and use them as a point for or against something. The markets are very different between area's of the world and the product offerings are not even the same most of the time.
I continue to get reports of runaway cars — all makes, with no special emphasis on Toyota.
There you go, ben66, that's basically what you asked for.
Note the Ford SUA in the story, and also how he concludes:
It is impossible to pass judgment on incidents like this, other than to affirm that they are very real indeed to the people reporting them to me.
It's impossible to prove that unintended acceleration did occur — and equally challenging to convince hearts and minds that it didn't.
Particularly the hearts and minds of people who already hate Toyota.
Its utterly amazing to see Toyota's dominance at home, more than the next 3 or 4 brands combined.
The Prius had the highest selling year of any Japanese car ever.
Toyota-1,531,722
Nissan-499,252
Honda-486,774
Prius!!-315,000
Mazda- 173,802
Lexus- 33,365
Those Prius numbers make me go :surprise:
http://blogs.forbes.com/michaelfumento/2010/11/16/in-black-and-white-the-toyota-- hysteria-exemplified/?utm_source=topic-oped&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=20101116-
the breakdown is not in the car but in how the media relays the event. It comprises all the main elements, namely:
* Elderly drivers
* Parking lots
* A sensationalist media
* Trial lawyers
* Misconceptions about how cars work generally and throttles and brakes specifically
* Ignorance, willful or otherwise, of solid data and substitution with presumptions, unwarranted allegations, and emotion
The family's attorney did not comment (notice a pattern there?).
Throughout the hysteria, we’ve seen expressed utter ignorance regarding the simplest aspects of how vehicles work. In this instance, it’s not just that engines and throttle controls are completely different units that merely work in combination. It’s also stated or implicit in alleged SUA accidents that yet a third system, the brakes, failed either partially or completely.
THANK YOU!
Man, I said that how long ago? The brakes are hydraulic and totally separate! I mentioned that in post 10968 but everyone here ignored that fact.
He also asks how a throttle can make the Corolla faster. I can't claim credit for that, though someone here mentioned the same thing.
The chance of brake failure not being detected after an accident is also nil.
“He was a delivery driver and was never involved in any major accidents.” But he wasn’t a delivery driver at age 87.
The "major" part is funny, you have to admit.
drivers 75 and older were almost four times more likely to be involved in accidents...also vastly more likely to report accidents they believe to be caused by SUA
A 1996 study of such incidents by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation powerfully supports this. Its analysis of drivers of General Motors cars found those over age 69 had almost seven times the number of SUA accidents per driver as those under age 38. This is yet more stunning considering that the elderly account for merely 3% of all miles driven.
GM, not Toyota, remember.
700% the frequency even with only 3% of the mileage.
As to Dolan’s across the board systematic failure charge, about 380,000 model year 2006 Corollas were sold in this country. The owners of these as of this writing have submitted to NHTSA a grand total of 43 SUA complaints. And only three of these were filed before the hysteria began last November.
So even with all the hysteria, the SUA complaint rate is 43/380,000 = .00011.
Before the hysteria, the pre-hype rate was 3/380,000 = .00000 sorry I ran out of zeros.
Conclusion:
Throughout the hysteria, which the media set off in the first place after a single Lexus crash, the press has failed to relay information such as this, and been unable to unable to look past their presumptions and instead look at the data and interview true experts (which doesn’t include trial lawyers.) That and apply a modicum of common sense. That’s been the real across the board systematic failure.
Less volume, I'm sure, but it could still carve out its own niche.
Nissan probably won't have enough supply for the first year or so.
