Wow, I haven't seen the new gen BMWs. I had a rent-a-BMW 535i in Italy in 2001 and liked it, but haven't seen many since I moved from Virginia Beach. We only have 2 Corvettes here in Wythe County and they're both C-4s. Country/mountain living is good, but it's obvious I'm out of touch with the new car models. You guys are always saying X90, STi and LR3 and such, but I let it go as I have no idea what brands you're talking about. Maybe a current list of the hot and not so hot models within a brand is in order so we far from the city folks can keep up. Thanks, dave

I agree with you. I never know what cars they are referring to with all of those letters and numbers. All I know is that LT is Limited and usually an LS is the model below that. Also, if you have noticed over the years, the make of the cars that you see is getting harder to identify. They put the name in small print and hide it some where on the car.

Your area is really bad for tickets. I've had three going through your area in the last 10 years. They either got me going down a hill or coming out of the tunnel. You do have some good lawyers though. It's amazing what $300 can do to save your license and get no points.

I have a question for all the salespeople out there:

Is it possible after the sale to obtain a replacement factory window sticker? I like to keep all of mine from my various cars and the service people who removed it really ripped it to shreds which was extremely annoying. This is a Toyota. I am certain that if I asked my salesperson, he would say tough luck since he was somewhat of a jerk throughout the entire process.

    Thank you for your input!

Yes it is possible. It is not a easy thing to obtain but your dealership should be able to get it for you. Just tell the dealer if they give you your window sticker you'll give them the survey not filled out. Everyone will be happy. :D

Mack, How many Celicas were sold in the last year of production?

    All of them......

nah..I doubt it. If they did, Toyota would not have pulled the plug on it :P

Should be, indeed. But on any given Sunday...

I'm not expecting 16-0. As long as the last game that the Pats play this season is a W. And it is played in February!

I enjoy this forum. Does not, however, make me want to be a car salesman. At least, until I can afford to be one!

'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)

I don't know if I would wish this job on anyone. I have got some of friends in the biz but they never last and tell me I am crazy for doing this job. But the funny thing is they always want to talk about it when I am around. On the idea of if you could afford to be one... You probably have more product knowledge than half of the poeople in the biz.

Thats another thing... to anyone out there in the biz. When you guys go to parties or cook outs does everyone come up and want to talk about whats the best deal on this or my friend got this crazy deal, etc., etc. etc. Or they want to buy a car and ask all the advice but don't buy for a year and it is a differant make.

On a positive note I am going to say it again the Pats will be undefeated this year. I am not worried about the Colts, Cowboys, or the Steelers.... Anyone want to take any action on this? :P

I’ll repeat what ‘greenpea’ said in post 18815 but I’d let them know you’re only asking one time.

With CSI’s being so important to salesman and dealers these days I’m surprised that you had a “jerk” for a salesman. The last time I bought (2006) I can honestly say the salesman deserved a perfect score. When I bought in 2005 the salesman wasn’t quite as deserving but I still gave him a perfect score since I saw that he was a “greenpea” (not the same one who is trying to help you out here) and at the time of this purchase I wasn’t aware how important they were even though the salesman said they were very important.

I’m sure you understand what I mean, since you can’t believe everything a car salesman says, other than the ones who hang out here. :)

The guy might have ben having a bad day. A phone call from the credit card company saying his wife just spent $3000 at macy's, a $500 commision just called and cancelled or worse came in on his day off and he had to split it, or he just got a bad survey in and now he lost a $1500 bonus, or he could have been told his child was expelled ffrom school. Doesn't mean he should take it on you, but sales people are people too. :)

The guy makes deals all day. If you offer a "deal" Window sticker for a survey you might make his day :shades:

Some of the sales numbers are mixed for last month. Toyota down, but both Honda and Nissan very strong. Mercedes had a great month, Audi was OK, Volvo was quite soft and Hyundai disappointing. Up and down all over.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Land Rover up 20 percent again.

Jescue do you need us to loan you a few sales till the XF comes out?
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
Bah I knew someone would say that. We actually sold 4 XJs this month. I am just happy we have Porsche. That makes up for the lack of Jag sales usually. One rare thing- I sold a Saab this morning. They make for tiny tiny commissions.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,804
Wow! 4 XJs? I never would have guessed.
    How much off sticker?

  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Does SAAB still pay a Spiff on every car you sell?

Did you see how much XJ sales went up compared to Sept. last year? It was over 1000 percent increase but didn't you have a gas tank recall on XJs last year too?
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
Discounted the XJs an average of $2k.
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
They pay $100 per car,so its not too bad. The one today was MSRP less the rebate, but the margins are small.
The fuel tank recall killed us last year. We had sold cars that could not be shipped and it made business very tough. They followed that up with a fuel tank recall on S-Type.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,804
Off sticker?? Really?? I guess these folks don't realize the car is exactly the same as last year and the year before that and the year before that and they could get one of those at maybe 40% of retail ... eh.... but i digress.

When is the XF coming anyway? Spring?

You cant get 40% off a new 08. An 05? sure, but thats true of most used vehicles. Some people just want new,and the 08 did get some cosmetic changes as well as cooled seats. We are due the first XFs in January. The XJ will get a redesign next.

I have sold cars for six years in upstate New York. Why do customers lie to us? I also feel that the general public for some strange reason feels that it is okay for them to be rude. I think shopping for a car brings out the absolute worst in some people. People that under any other setting would be kind, polite individuals turn in to complete jerks and think nothing of it.
  • epineyepiney Member Posts: 462
One rare thing- I sold a Saab this morning.

Why do they still make those?
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
Some of them think we are all Joe Isuzu. I think there is a serious decline of courtesy and manners in general.
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
To keep the Swedish economy running. :) Actually, they are good vehicles, just a very small player in the market. In our area and most of the south they remain a rarity. Northern climates do fairly well with them.
  • epineyepiney Member Posts: 462
How about this one... If the Pats run the table I'll buy a Versa at MSRP with pro pack and stripes and I'll bring the stuffed baby seal for you to club. If they don't, you sell me an Altima 3.5 Coupe at invoice less holdback with extended warranty and pro pack thrown in.
  • epineyepiney Member Posts: 462

Why do sales folks lie to customers. It's a vicious circle started well before we got here and will continue well after I'm afraid.

Hopefully soon on the rates. We have disc. 2 and the most one one was $500 because it was a friend of the GM. The rest have all been sticker. No ADM's

I find that most of the people that trade out of them are lawyers. I just always thought that it was wierd.
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
They tend to be very intellectual buyers-or GM employees. ;)

The guys at our SAAB dealership always say that they are popular with professionals so lawyers, dentists, engineers etc.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
They definatly attract a certain type of customer. As used cars I don't like selling them. They cause almost as many problems as Volvos and Audi's do.
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Oh yeah, they always ask "What's the invoice on a ( insert Toyota model here)" I just don't make it widely known that I sell cars unless someone asks what I do. Then I tell them I sell Toyotas not cars. ;)

Your prediction isn't even a day old and you're hedging already! :(

Listen to people who have watched this game for quite a while.

Undefeated just isn't going to happen if for no other reason than lets say they are 15-0, do you really think the Pats will risk injury to any key starter just to prove they could go 16-0. I don't care who they play last, if they're in that position its not worth it. Heck, all you have to do is watch the preseason games to know this.

If you don't believe me, go ask Belacheat.

Is it me I don't know but Saab trades always seem to have a distinctive smell. I know it sounds crazy but what ever they use for the leather or something. I have looked at trades over the last 5 years and the Saab's always smell the same and the info display is ussually always gone at 30k miles. Anybody else experience this feel free to share.

Listen to people who have watched this game for quite a while.

I know I don't have the life experience you have. But I have been watching for at least 20 years. The thing with the Patriots is they don't just 2 key players to get the job done. They have a whole bench of players that are ready to stand up and do the job. They have so many quality players that they don't even play them all. I know I am expecting a lot out my team but i think they are going to change the history books this year.

So JM I believ you are behind the Pats this year if the Steelers can't get it done. Is there any other reason in your life experience that makes you say the Pats can't win every game this year? ;)

They have a very distinctive smell. Even when they had cloth interiors they smelled that way. The info displays (SID)Saab Information Display-usually scramble pretty quickly. The center display Audi uses does the same thing,it just takes longer.

    Ouch.

On a positive note, got our extended warranty and GAP insurance refunds from the trade in of our '04 VUE ... $1150. :D

Of course, it cost me $600 to put plates onto our new '08 VUE. And that was with a whopping $85 credit from the previous registration!

Woke up this morning thought I was at a Saturn dealer"

Greenbeans86: "Hey I'll bet you the Stealers go 15 and 0! The Patsies don't have a chance against them. That new Coup is really nice. Can't sell them below MSRP unless you know the GM."

gMorrow: "I don't watch football much. Mrs. gM won't let me. Last time we went out car shopping the model A was still around."

epinetree: "Well I guarantee the Patsies go 18-0. If not I'll buy a Nissan Sentra from Greenbeans but if they do than Greenbeans gives me a coupe"

British Roving: "I had a great month! we are getting into the busy season around here. Instead of selling four cars as I usually do I'll be selling five!! Whoo Hooo! I can't wait until December comes around. I'll be rolling in the snow then!"

You can rest assured the Steelers aren’t going all the way. They were trying to do it with lights and mirrors, and if they couldn’t get it done in the Arizona sunshine they aren’t going to do it and for sure they aren’t going to do it if they have to play the Pats in the playoffs. They never could beat them when it counted.

Is there any other reason in your life experience that makes you say the Pats can't win every game this year?

I’ve already said it’s a long season and players get hurt and believe it or not sometimes you just have a bad day, just like in the car biz. ;)
