What deals have u gotten and from which dealerships ?
the above quote is from a dealership in T.O Ont
The whole thing was $450. Don't know how much the remote was separately but I looked around beforehand and think it was probably about $250 plus you will need a new key because its needed in the installation of the kit.
BTW; I don't think the epa figs are much different between the 4cyl and V6 camry.
I appreciate any responses.
Happy HL'ing to all.
Did u mean to say in your message "You can't do better then $40650 ??". The price I got was from Hwy 7/Pine Valley Toyota. I'll try the same approach as you. Do you think 39K on the road is too cheap??
Thanks
I just want to thank everybody for sharing their experiences....I have been able to go into the service dept. well informed....frankly they were quite impressed with my knowledge of the HL. My Toyota dealer has only had three HLs in for service...so any help I provide is a bonus! The recall has been fixed and they were able to fix the popping noise on my HL Ltd. (I provided a printout of some discussions of this forum!!!). The service manager has also stated to me that Toyota Canada is aware of the whistling / crosswind problem, but at this time no service bulletin exists. They are working on it.
As for Weasel7...don't pay a cent over $40700...but I can't see them giving it to you for under $40500 (that would only be dealer cost + 4% markup). Carcost Canada..that is how I got my great deal on my HL V6 Ltd (Cost + 5% + freight and pdi)...by the way in my calculation of $40700 I included $1000 for freight and pdi, $100 air tax, $15 tire tax (a N.S. thing), 15% HST.
Forget the undercoating for now...wait 3 or 4 years...it's a waste of money for a new vehicle.
Goodluck to all...it is a great vehicle. Over 11000 km (6600 miles) and still lovin' it!
John
Cars.com reports only 3 changes to 2002 HL, center console in front, arm rest in back and cabin air filter. Should not add much to price, unless Toyota wants to raise the price anyway in view of the seller's market for HL's.
Any hard info/rumors as to when the 2002's will be out??

If you are interested my dealership is O'Regan's Toyota/Lexus in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia 902-464-9550. A-1 service.
As for Canadian pricing...I guarantee you will not get anyone to sell you an HL for less than 4% over dealercost....this means 40500$....but think more like 40700$
Thank you.
It includes:
- Leather seats, steering wheel and shiftknob
- Power driver seat
- Tonneau cover
- Alloy wheels
- Center console
- Lock package
MSRP: $39,300.
I also saw listed a video entertainment feature under accessories. I wasn't sure if this was available for 2001 or not.
I have been looking at both the RX300 and HL for a while now and am very excited that I decided not to get the RX or 2001 HL. It appears they have fixed the minor annoyances I had with the first year HL.

thanks in Advance

I've had the service writer at the Toyota dealership even have a mechanic drive my Highlander and he told me that the brakes feel fine to him. He explained that my problem is that I'm not used to driving a SUV (heavier/greater stopping distance) and that is my first vehicle with 4-wheel disk brakes.
This sounds reasonable and off I go. But, I still not completely comfortable with the "soft pedal" brakes.
Well, this morning while washing the Highlander and polishing the wheels I look at the rear rotors and I am amazed to see that the cross-hatching is still on the rear brake rotors and I believe that the braking split is 70% front and 30% rear. Even so, I would think that with 2000 miles on the rotors the cross-hatching would be long gone if the rear brakes were doing their job, but if the rear disks are not engaging then this would explain why I feel that the brakes soft.
So here is the question to other Highlander owners:
Look through the wheel openings at the rear rotors and see if the cross-hatching is still visible. If it is or is not, please post a message stating which and how many miles are on your Highlander.
Thanks for any & all assistance, Philip
Here is a photo of rear disk.

I talked with the Toyota dealership again yesterday and explained my concern about the "soft" pedal and the cross-hatching on the rear rotors still visible after 2000 miles. The service manager was not able to answer my concerns as to whether this is normal or not because no one had ever asked the question.
But, I have peaked their interest and they have gone on a fact finding mission to look at a few rear rotors on Highlanders and call me today with their results.
Apologies if this question is answered previously, I can't seem to search the forum. Thanks!
Others on this forum and the RX forum have had the problem fixed but none of them seem quite sure exactly what the dealer did.
The dealer treated me right...it was Friday going into the last weekend of the month and they were willing to deal.
The other dealer in the area wouldn't even talk anything below MSRP. Funny thing was I stopped at this place to see the new Camry and found the right vehicle...just not the right place to deal.
I've added the bug shield, cargo net and hope to get the alarm system and console and talk them into installing them with my 1000 mile, complimentary oil change.
This vehicle will have a ways to go to beat the Camry, I'm retiring it with 220,000 miles and it is still going strong.
tick tick ticking at the end of braking, that they are fixing today with special grease! Should the brakes have been bled too?????
Thanks
The '01 RAV4 has a timing chain, not a belt. I don't know about other Toyo 4-cylinders.
The mirrior, as earlier posted, was causing some wind noise because it was mounted with a slight gap which caused the problem. My service tech also ordereded a new door seal in hopes of solving my problem. I'll keep you updated.
Anyone else here look at a certified RX before choosing the Highlander???
Mechanically, the 2 vehicles are very similar, 6 cyl engines are exactly the same, but the HL is built on a newer platform--thus it is a little longer and has more cargo room behind the rear seats, a lot more in my opinion. Also, the HL has a tighter turning circle--I thought that the RX was very awkward in that regard, and some owners have complained on the RX forum. These two things were very important to me. However, I felt that the RX rode smoother, especially ones from previous years--my understanding is that the suspension was tightened up this past year. HL is tighter still but is supposed to handle better. RX really did ride "just like a car." Some people say that the HL does, but it's somewhat bouncier going over a bump in my opinion.
Some drivers have noted that the HL has better rear visibility--the RX has fatter pillars back there. RX has a nicer center console, in some people's opinion, which integrates with the dash, whereas the HL has that little thing stuck in the middle which seems almost makeshift. I wouldn't want the RX console (I like a place to put my purse down) but I almost wish I hadn't gotten the HL console--it's a place to put things, but CD's don't fit very well.
There are some options you might get on the preowned RX that you wouldn't get on the unlimited HL, including a few things not even available on the HL--I think--like memory mirrors and seats. Both vehicles are prone to some of the minor annoyances that people have discussed on this forum, like the clicking from the sunroof when the car cools down (IF your sunshade is open).
You might check out the latest issue of Consumer Reports--HL is rated higher than RX and Acura MDX. Its poorest rating is on emergency handling, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the fact that Toyota supplies less-than-top-quality tires with the HL. Tires on RX might be better, I don't recall. We upgraded ours to ones that are rated as having better traction.
Have fun choosing, both are good!
But getting past that one aspect, as we all suspected the HL will now rated at the very top of the SUV heap, ahead of the RX 300 and Acura MDX. The two vehicles ahead of the HL in CR ratings are the Audi A6/VW Passat 4motion (same vehicle basically), and lets face it, no matter how much we wish it to be so, an SUV type vehicle like the HL is not going to handle as well as these euro sedan/station wagons.
What is remarkable is that the HL as an vehicle with SUV clearance, cargo and towing capacity outaccelerates the passat and subaru outback, beats or is nearly the same in braking an fuel economy.
And finally, why many of us con t inue to choose toyota over other auto makes, the HL is much higher quality vehicle overall as evidenced by its higher reliability ratings. Overall it is a very satisfactory result, if not the complete annihilation of the competition we were hoping for....
I really want to buy the Highlander, but its hard to justify the significantly higher price tag (as opposed to maybe a Rodeo LS).
Any recomendations for best price dealer in Central Florida?
I have owned Acura's and Honda's for the past 20 years and have been extremely satisfied. The MDX was considered but with pricing at or above MSRP and no availablity, I looked at the HL. I test drove the HL on Rt. 55 in South Jersey driving up to 80. While at 80, the salesperson said hit it, its just as smooth at 90. I backed down, a speeding ticket in NJ will cost!! This SUV was impressive, quiet and drove well at high speed, almost carlike.
This HL had 47 miles on it before my test. Sales people do not care about the vehicle you are testing, only want to sell the car. 80 mph probably did not hurt it but makes you wonder what a 'dealer demo' or any new vehicle with a few miles on it goes through.
This will be my first Toyota, won't even discuss why I will never buy a Ford again ( head gaskets failing, trans. problems)
When the 02 Limited is available and the same deal of around $900.00 over invoice that I was quoted for a 01 is given, I will buy immediately. Will post info. after my purchase.
When I began the buying process for my HL, the dealer, (different dealer than the one that sold me the Camry), said that if they could find one that had not entered the port of Jacksonville FL yet, (I guess this means that it is still on the ship), they could specify not to "install" the ToyoGuard option - and that is how it went.
Actually, I found the HL that I wanted by looking at the Southeast inventory. you can do this by searching dealer websites in the Southeast region - some dealers, in addition to showing what they have on their inventory, let you look at the whole Southeast inventory.
I found a dealer in Alabama whose website let me look at the whole Southeast inventory, and I my timing just happened to be right - there were 731 HLs listed. I went down the list, found about 15 HLs that had all or nearly all the options I wanted, wrote down the last part of the VIN numbers and asked my dealer to get one on the list. They did, it apparently was on the boat, and they got it for me without having to pay for the ToyoGuard.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Impe
Cant wait to get it!
I factory ordered a V6, non-Limited with a specific set of options (tow prep - for the heavier radiator & alternator, trans cooler & ps cooler, port leather, daytime running lamps, rook rack, mats, port installed step bar and much maligned center console) to get JUST those options and not several other common dealer options like Toyo Guard and power seats (I found ONE with manual seats and it has all of the same controls, just manual. A couple of my personal perceptions from that exercise, which primarily included internet/e-mail dealing:
1. You can avoid Toyo Guard if you factory order, but be prepared for a 3-1/2 month to 4 month wait.
2. You can also avoid Toyo Guard by having your dealer pull a vehicle in-route to the port, Jax, FL in this case, as described in a post previously.
3. If you go with option 2, you'll get the vehicle sooner, but will still end up with a couple options you probably don't need and will probably pay a bit more of a markup over invoice + ad fee.
4. I personally couldn't see paying for Toyo Guard (the port cost of which is about $75, if I recall) or power seats, and was adamant about the tow prep package (the engine upgrades alone are a bargain, particularly in warmer climates) which is not prevalent without tons of other options.
5. Bottom-line, we factory ordered. $472 down, exactly $177.46 over invoice + $550 ad fee -- $25,384.96 pre-tax. Thanks, in part, to this Board and ss good a deal as I have seen on the board since I started reading it in May.
Pros/Cons - We are waiting. Semi-patiently. You save money both on options and markup, but it hurts to see more and more driving down the road every day.
A Silver lining! Ours was ordered in early June and we found out last week that it will be built as a 2002 model, no extra charge, but add more wait time.
The dealer quoted the following for 2002 builds -- first factory build date 8/27. First SE Toyota allocation to arrive at JaxPort, FL 9/29. Our is expected to be in the second alloction, two weeks later. I'm crossing my fingers.
For those who have commented on the 2002 console - where in the totota.com web-site did you see it? I cannot load the 360 degree video and see no pictures that give a decent center angle view. I am curious to see the impact it has on my order of a "much-maligned" center console.
Thanks.
Don't pay anymore than invoice - holdback + 5% markup. I paid 40650 on the road for my unlimited V6 AWD.
