I'm also looking forward to the Fall Carlisle Show the following weekend, and then Hershey the weekend after that. That will wrap-up the 2008 car show season for me.
Yeah, it's hard to believe the classic car show season is wrapping up already! Carlisle on the October 4th, Hershey on the 11th, a local show in Rockville, MD that I'm taking the LeMans to on the 18th, and then that's it.
The season seems like it really went by fast this year. But then, I think I say that every year.

And it looks like the weather's going to be nice. Last time I checked it's supposed to be sunny and a high of 81. Nice change from last year, when I think it got up almost 100!
If you put two cars in the show, they do give you a break. For instance, in 2002-2005, I used to put both the Intrepid and the 5th Ave in the Mopar show. The second car was either $5 or $10 cheaper, I forget now.
Anyhow, Admission price for spectators is $10 and it's a tax write off. Children 12 and under free. Any questions don't hesitate to email me at tvague@softininc.org

I hope the weather holds out though, because I'm pretty much committed to bringing the Catalina at this point. I don't trust the LeMans that far. If it starts in the morning, it's good for the day. However, I have this vision of it getting me up there just fine on Friday, and behaving all day, only to refuse to start on Saturday morning.
I guess if the weather's too bad and I don't want to bring the Catalina out in it, I can always drive up in the Silverado. :P
Maybe I can take my girlfriend's LaCrosse in lieu of the others, but she's afraid to drive any of my cars.
Have you tried using Downy in your rinse water? Neighbor splashes Downy over his cars after washing. He puts a small amount of Downy in a 2-3 gallong bucket of water and splashes it over the car's flat areas. The water tends to sheet and run off rather than staying in spots due to the wax and then drying leaving minerals and dirt behind. Then it's easy to wipe the residual water away.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I've got extra oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid in the trunk. Plus, I'm going to take the battery out of the LeMans, plus bring along a charger, just to keep my paranoia at bay! :shades:
I hope the weather is decent.
Funny thing...I've always carried all those fluids + coolant in the trunk of the fintail too.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I actually thought about putting my '79 5th Ave in the burnout contest at the Mopar show, since its rear tires are crap anyway...just make sure I have spare tires and wheels in the trunk! But with my luck, I'd end up dropping the transmission or something. And while I only paid $900 for that car, I'd rather not do something stupid to it that turns it into junkyard fodder!
If you did kill your 5th Ave, you'd have an excuse to go after that primo example with only 4K miles on it somebody posted a few days back!
That 4K mile 5th Ave was nice, but I think I'd be afraid of a car that nice and that low mileage! If I ended up killing the transmission in my 5th Ave, I'd probably just get it rebuilt. It's simple enough that it's probably still less than $1000. Now the engine, that might be a different story. But then, if that engine did blow, that would give me a good excuse to put something a little hotter under the hood! :shades:
I have to make one of those. Too bad the kids yawn at cars I try to point out.
We tracked the Catalina's fuel economy coming up. Not too bad actually. 16.8 mpg over 118 miles of mostly highway. Going pretty much with the flow of traffic, around 65 mph. Not too bad for a 400 V-8 I guess.
Fezo, how far is Allentown from where you live? There's a car show we always hit the first Saturday in August out that way, in a town called Macungie. I registered the Catalina for that show. Unfortunately, cars have to be at least 25 years old for that show, so Lemko's Brougham has to wait another 5 years.
I ended up in the ER. I'd rather have been up checking out the leaky Catalina.
I checked out OK. Worried because of headache that could have been related to ministrokes from seven years ago. They weren't. Not a good way to spend your day.
I'm about 2-1/2 hours from Allentown. There's a maybe.....
I'm back home now, chilling out and trying not to think about going back to work tomorrow. We lucked out and didn't get much more in the way of rain, other than what hit us on Friday. There was just enough sprinkle on Saturday to make me put the top up on the show field. And coming back home today, we ran into a light drizzle. We put the top up at a rest stop when we got back into Maryland, but luckily it didn't rain hard enough to make the car start leaking any more.
Depending on how the weather is tomorrow, I might take the Catalina to work, so I can fill up again. I topped off just before coming back home, and I'm curious to see what kind of mileage it got coming back. While we were running back and forth to the hotel, going out to eat, driving around aimlessly, etc, I figure I got around 12.5 mpg, in a mix of local and highway. So again, not too horrible, for a car that size I guess.
Grbeck and I had a close call Saturday night on the way home from Carlisle. Some knucklehead in a Buick LaCrosse almost rear-ended the Brougham as we were about to merge onto another road close to his place. It's a tricky merge and you've got to pay attention.
No, it was not my girlfriend angry at me for leaving her home all day!
Other than that, the Brougham ran flawlessly averaging about 21 MPG for the 263-mile round trip.
About the only incident we had was a few drops of rain coming back. Once we got back into Maryland, I pulled off at a rest stop and we put the top up. It didn't amount to much more than a light drizzle. At highway speeds, the air flow probably would have kept it out of the car if I left the top down!
I drove the Catalina to work today and filled up. I ended up going around 324 miles total, between driving up there and back, and various running around. Fuel economy came out to around 13.7. Not too hideous I guess. While I was impressed with that 16.8 I hit on the ride up, going back I took a scenic back route that took us over a mountain ridge. Probably not too good for the fuel economy! Plus, the flow of traffic going back was faster than coming up, which no doubt hurt.
I ended up with much more good news than bad on that ER visit so I'll take it. I have all sorts of wacky health issues so the visit wasn't a huge surprise.
Don't worry that this is what happens to yo after 50. I've had issues all my life....
So when do we hit the real fun - when you start doing up the DeSoto?
Yeah, usually you have to go out west to see 57-59 Mopars since they were rust buckets just like the Fords of that era. But I still love those mid to late fiftes Virgil Exner Mopars and some of them still look real good like the Chrysler 300, Plymouth Fury and DeSoto Adventurer. How about a Chrysler trapezoidal 300 grill and DeSoto 3 vertical light tail? Don't forget the rear antennas!
You Cat looks nicer than I've imagined all these years. I'm impressed. Hope you're feeling better.
I drove my '76 LeMans today, and so far, so good. Sometimes it'll get fidgety on the first start of the day. However, today it did just fine, and I hadn't started it since Sunday afternoon. I would have liked to have put both the Catalina and the LeMans in the GM show, but I didn't have a second driver. One of my friends went up with me, but he's not that knowledgeable about older cars. He's afraid of anything where you have to pump the gas pedal before starting it!
They had the class for the full-size Pontiacs and the 1961-81 Tempest/LeMans side by side, so it would've been kinda neat to see the cars on the show field, almost side by side! They had the GTO in a separate class, as well as the Grand Prix, so the Tempest/LeMans group was pretty sparse. A couple '66-67 models showed up, a 77.5 Can Am, and maybe couple '68-72's.
I'll be out that way in the beginning of August, for the car show at the Das Awkscht Fescht in Macungie, PA. I have my '67 Catalina convertible registered, but if something happens to it, I have my '76 LeMans as a backup. And if that one gets cranky, I guess I can always fall back on my '79 5th Ave!
**Edit...I just googled the Deutsche Classic, and see it's all German cars. Seems kinda ironic to have it in Fleetwood! I wonder how Cadillac owners take to that! :P
