Right ... This is how I read it too. Therefore, according with the Consumer Guide review, which I quote in my previous post, the Outlander has a liftgate with an opening glass. Is that right? Since when?

But still there's something nagging in the back of my mind regarding their rating of Rav vs Out. What if you go for the underdog (out) and get buyer's remorse down the road? Then it'd be like "I told you so" :surprise:
The only thing that worries me about the Out is Mits horrible resale value. Have an 2003 Montero purchased new with 45,000 miles and its value sank faster than the Titanic!
The resale value is Mitsubishi's problem, which I definitely agree with. However, my take is that I'd rather enjoy the time I own the vehicle. I take it as an expense for myself - like I would buy myself some good time so to speak. I'm not a rich guy, but I can spend $1000/year for my enjoyment. I did the same with my other car - Mazda3, and I enjoyed every day I drove it over the past 18 months. The resale value will be lower than Corolla or Civic, but no regrets. So far it was as reliable as it could be - zero problems. What I'm really looking forward to getting from Outlander is good reliability. From the used cars reviws it looks like Mitsubishi cars have high scores on this front. On the positive side, lower purchase price and financing cost may offsets some of the loss on the resale value. BTW, how is your Montero reliability wise?
It's just another example that their review, in this case at least, has ZERO, NADA, NIL.... relevance. If they don't even know that the rear window does not open, I wonder if they have ever seen the car in person. So no credibility at all in my eyes. I have no problem to be true with the resale value, or other real flaws in the car - I would like to know about them before I buy, but don't get ridiculous where it is obviously at par or better than the competition, even though this is Honda or Toyota. They have flaws too and not always minor.
I have had no problems with the Montero in 3 years. Only have had to have routine maintenace. My only compaint about the Montero is that it is underpowered. The new Outlander has more horsepower than my Montero and for a heavy SUV it could use a few more ponies. Oh and the mileage. When I drive I avg 16 mpg, when wifey drives 18 mpg and that is on mid octane unleaded. Probably putting 20's on it didn't help but is is "pimpin"
Too bad the new 07 Montero will not be marketed here in the US, but Canada and Mexico will get it next year. The new Pajero/Montero Evolution will sport that new look in the upcoming Dakar Rally this January. Mitsu going for a 7th straight Dakar Rally win! Robbie Gordon (NASCAR driver) attempted it on a custom Hummer H3 and he did only half of the race before his Hummer surrendered.
Mitsu has made the 07 Outlander a "custom" spec if you will, of their basic Japanese 2.4L model. They know if they want to gain a good market here they have to offer more horses, and so they did. Elsewhere in the world, their version of the Outlander has the same 2.4L engine as that of the Japan model.
