The 2.5T has not had any major issues. It's a solid engine, albeit a little underpowered for the vehicle.
But, because I hear this stated so often, I gotta wonder if we didn't somehow luck out and get a particularly fast one. *shrug*
Although I wouldn't be terribly surprised. When I had my S70 T5, there were reports of acceleration times all over the map with the auto trans. Most clustered around 7 secs 0-60. Some reached up towards 8 secs and some down near 6. I clocked my own with OBDII software and was able to squeeze out a 6.2. Don't know if its a volvo thing or a turbo thing. Probably the latter.

Some of it is probably just turbo lag off the line, but 208hp and 4,500 lbs curb weight is never going to make for a highly spirited performer. Not that this is the primary selling point of the vehicle, obviously. Anyway, once I'm out of warranty next year, I'll flash the ECU up to 260hp and see how that suits me.
I take it you do agree that nearly $20K for a stripper '06 is hardly a screaming deal, though?
I don't have my galves subscription updated, but you gave the number, and I'm sure its accurate.
Back on that engine thing, I have pondered the reflash, too, but the more I drive it, the more I feel its unnecessary. From about 10 mph up, that truck builds speed real quick. Don't forget, while the hp number may not be up to par with a V6, the torque IS, and it comes on full bore at relatively low rpms. Once that turbo spins up, I've left many V8 SUVs in the dust.

Should I proceed or is there a 'gotcha' risk?
Thanks

I already bought it for $18,500 and I feel good about it...any feedback?
You feel good about it, so why ask? Do you really want negative feedback to make you feel bad about it? Enjoy it!!

2006 XC90 2.5T,34K miles, premium and climate pkg.
Leasing bank is offering vehicle for 18,800(tax included)
This are my minimum specs.
Now I am looking at the Volvo or the Honda Pilot.
Are there any other SUVs comparable to the XC90 ?
this is what I am looking for in the XC90
1. Has to be XC90 2.5T model, possibly the prem & climate package.
2. Has to have 3rd row seating (ie 7 passenger)
3. This will be a USED vehicle no neet for it to be new.
4. Not more than 3yrs old
Is there anything else that I should be looking at or considering when purchasing this vehicle.
I live in Canada but I'd be buying this car in the US because it will be cheaper. I know I have to go thru all the Canadian safety /specs. That's not an issue for me.
Obviously nobody wants to buy a lemon.
Any suggestions /help is very much appreciated.
Thanks
If you buy from a non-volvo dealer, i strongly suggest you have a volvo specialist check out the vehicle prior to purchase. There are couple of problematic areas, namely the wheel bearings and angle gear seal.

Soo... that's puts the purchase price where? $14k?
Sounds like quite a good deal.

For identically equipped xc's I'm seeing a typical increase of $4500 on the 08's. Mileage on both are average for their years. What am I missing? The way I see it, essentially you're paying an extra $4500 for an extra year of warranty coverage.
And the increase is only that much because it is so recent. The difference between 06 and 07, on the other hand, should be more like $2500-$3k.

54k miles
dvd player
rear park assist
Dealer sticker price 25k(before tax). I have seen around 19k offered for a similar vehicle in other edmunds forums. This is central NJ, What can we really offer?
Thanks much for the advise.
I'm not sure of the exact number, you might want to ask volvomax over on the real-world trade-in values board, but I'd wager a guess that its worth maybe $14k on a trade. So $17k retail would be ALL the money.
Unless its CPO.
If you do ask volvomax, he'll need to know major options besides DVD. If it has 3rd row, then it has Versatility pack. If it has heated seats, it has Climate pack. Oh, and does it have AWD? If its missing these things, its probably worth even less than my estimate.

What model did you buy? Since you didn't mention a transmission failure, I'm assuming the 2.5T?
The angle gear is about the only thing I've been concerned about. I hope it holds up for us or goes out while still under warranty. I haven't heard of this deck error issue. What is the story on that? Why would burned CDs cause such an issue?

I'm heading there tomorrow so a quick response would be appreciated.
Also, think of how this will affect resale value. Just as it troubles me now to read that, so will it trouble most other buyers.

I'm more concerned about the overall selling price & the relatively high miles. Considering the replaced engine, reselling it would be difficult. I've seen similarly equipped V8's in my area for over $20k, but most have fewer miles and, of course, original engine.
Thanks.
Would prefer they had replaced with a new engine, however.
As far as value ... well, I don't know if volvomax watches this thread, so try asking on the Real-World Trade-in Values thread.

If CPO, that's a great price.
If not, its a fair price for both parties. Just make sure it has no accident history.

p.s. I am def staying away from the T6 models.
The car handles and brakes very well for its weight and height. It's narrower than an MDX, so it's easier to park. For the 3-row model, the second row leg room is tight, but it has a very deep cargo area that is more usable than that in the MDX. Acceleration from the 2.5T engine is acceptable, but by no means strong. Gas mileage wise, we got 16-17 local and 22 hwy.
Make sure you have a mechanic thoroughly check the suspension components and brakes for wear. A clean 3-4 year old model (no T6) with 40K or so miles would not be a bad choice.
axle shaft replaced after 65,000 miles;
electrical system checked at 65,000 miles;
front wheel bearings replaced at 70,000 miles;
engine/powertrain computer/module reprogramed at 81,500 miles;
battery charging system checked at 80,000 miles; and
electrical system checked at 82,000 miles.
Are these red herrings? Do XC90's have issues with axle shafts or electrical systems? Is checking electrical system standard? I'm assuming that the driver was reporting electrical problems and the dealer couldn't identify/fix. Thanks.
Wouldn't bother you but can't afford to buy another lemon.
Thanks!
