Service manager called us this morning and said that they are on the internet looking into the problem. Said they ours is the first one to come in with this problem (Do I get a prize for being #1?). Will send an update when I get one.
I emailed Dodge and got a stock response from some sort of email call center. I don't understand why there is not better communication about this problem between dealerships and the manufacturer.
I am going to give this a try and see if they are right. What's weird about this is the noise sounds like its coming from under or around the dash board or windshield. I will give this a try and report back to let you know if this is indeed the root cause of this annoying sound.
MY NAME IS KENT @ DODGE COUNTRY IN KILLEEN TEXAS.
Joe, the service manager at Dependable Dodge in Vero Beach, Florida, thinks he has found the cause of the whistle and corrected it. This is the 5th time that I have had to bring my vehicle to Dodge for this problem but I'm hopeful that they have corrected it. Joe spoke with Kent at Dodge Country in Texas (listed above) and they believe that they are on the same page with this problem so have your service manager call one of them. Good Luck.
Can you tell us what the problem was? I know several minivan owners and one of them says he is having the whistling problem. I'd like to pass on any diagnostic info that you may have discovered. Thanks.
Thanks
I guess I'm one of the ones who doesn't see black silicon as being a problem. Don't they use some sort of silicon adhesive when they install the windshield at the factory?
Maybe they need to increase the flow rate of the robot that dispenses it onto the windshield before setting it in place.
That said, I was fully prepared to deal with some issues when I decided to buy a first year, ground up new vehicle rather than wait for year two or three when the "bugs" are worked out. Every totally new design has initial adjustments, changes, design flaws that are discovered and corrected. Some of them take time and trial and error to work out. So far, the local dealer here has been outstanding with every problem I have heard of. We had two things "fixed" on our van during the first two months. 1. The power side doors were reprogrammed to be less sensitive when closing. 2. The MyGig was updated to the most current version. Overall, my opinion of the total quality of the van vs the competition is very high.
Incidentally, the last "first year" vehicle I bought was also a gem for the 130,000 miles I drove it. It was a 1993 Eagle Vision. It was one of the first 1000 made in 1992. It is still on the road with 200,000+ miles on it.
I shut it down a few times, and it resets each time, but does it again.
I determined mine does it, when I juice the throttle, or suddenly tax the engine,, turning on a/c at full, cruise control....
I found a dealer while on vacation, of course there were no codes stored for the event, even though it happened like 9 times. finally the next day it happened as i drove by the dealer.
I pulled in and grabbed the mechanic,,, he thinks it's the pcv valve,, will be replacing it tomorrow. Because when he squeezes the pcv tube, the rough idling engine smooths out.
I'll update if that fixes it... oh yeah the check engine light comes on too.
Mechanic says with all this computer crap,,, a large vacuum loss such as the pcv not working, would be considered a major event and would tell the car to shut down or go into limp mode.
I'm still curious why the pcv plugged at 880 miles though?
That was late Sat. night. Was told to bring it back on Monday for service. We brought it in Mon. a.m. (4 days after purchase). He said he will fix it. Apparently, there is now a service bulletin out about the problem.
Hope this fixes the problem. Not a good omen for a car that is only two days old.I am researching the lemon law. Has this problem been finally fixed for others? Anything I should be aware of when I get my 4 day old car back? Thanks.
I wrote back, told them I had already had the van in more than once but that when the service people are unable to duplicate the problem they can't fix it. So I gave them step-by-step instructions on how to go in to Edmunds.com and look at these discussions and I BEGGED them to do so. Told them about Kent at Dodge Country in Killeen, TX and that he supposedly had found and fixed the problem and that now the many of us with BRAND NEW vans with this problem need Chrysler to get the word out to all of their service people so that we can get this taken care of!
So, everyone, go in to Chrysler.com, click on "owners" and do the whole contact us thing. We can get them to get the solution out there so that we can take our vans in ONE MORE TIME and get this whistle taken care of. Go team!
Was not aware of any luggage rack issues. What's up with that?
I did reply using a link provided that contained all the original communication so I'll let everyone know when I hear back again. Should be able to tell then if it is the standard "we really care about your satisfaction", please visit your dealer's service dept. talk. I am going to actually reply again and specify that I was not inquiring about a true recall, simply a service bulletin. I'll let you all know when I get a response.
Here's some clarifying Information on the NAV Guidance Prompting (that I sometimes find annoying). This is from the mofv.com/mygig/ website:
Q: How do I adjust the Nav prompt volume?
A: If you want the Nav Prompt volume silenced press NAV then MENU then NAV SETTINGS then GUIDANCE PROMPTS Adjust the Nav Prompt volume to "0" then SAVE. This will silence the Navigation prompt (lady's voice telling you when to turn) until you either adjust it in this menu to some other value or press the RPT key on the top right part of the NAV MAP. The RPT (repeat) button will restore the operation to some minimal value (level 12).
Hope this helps!
This new 3.8L engine with ~1400 miles on it hasn't done much better that 15.x MPG for city or a mix of city/hwy driving. If I keep the van sniffing the rump end of a semi truck (~6 ft from the back end) on the hwy I can break into the 20s, but that's about it.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Contemplating driving it more vs. taking it back to the dealer (~1 hr drive). Other vehicle owners have claimed a marked increase in MPG after several thousands miles of driving.... hence my dilemna.
THANKS!!
Did either of you two (or anyone else on the forum here) notice any improvements or changes in MPG after driving the vehicle several thousand miles?? Or has your vehicle always performed about the same?? I just drove mine on the highway for about 1 hour, it tops at 23.5MPG (just going by the trip computer). What I've noticed too is that our touring model seems to suck down gas when it idles. It doesn't run fast (~750RPM), but that trip computer's MPG sure comes down awfully fast...
If it's anything like the trip computer in my Sebring the actual mpg will calculate out to be 1-2 mpg higher than that. I noticed a slight overall fuel economy improvement after around 5,000 miles.
