That's a riot. Thanks Bob. I wouldn't want to be riding in the back of that, especially after having first hand experience with the much larger Pilot (that was tight enough).
I didn't find the previous generation V that tough to get in and out of. I also didn't feel the '02's seating position was THAT much lower. I mean, a 4 inch difference is quite a bit (as it is with all things )
I have a new 2002 CRV, Is synthetic motor oil worth the added expense?? At what time should you start using it and how long between changes??? My car has about 1000miles on it. Mark
I had a lojack installed on my 2002 CRV in January. It cost $499. The dealer gave me a discount of $100. They came to my house to installed it and were gone in about 20 minutes.
If you go to the TOWN HALL "Aftermarket and Accessory" topic...there is a whole discussion on Synthetic Oils and I am certain someone will answer your question... as there appears to be quite a few well informed experts on synthetic oils in that topic.
The Synthetic motor oil discussion (and the dead dino ones) lives over in M&R. Enjoy! Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
Bought my eternal blue Ex/auto in early Jan. for 22740 including security alarm and front muds. Are they still gong at MSRP. Acuar MDX and Odyseey have been going for MSRP for years and new Pilot should as well. Will Pilot drive away CRV customers and thus reduce CRV prices.?????????
Hi Tronsr1 - no apology necessary, there have been oil topics in A&A but they tend to die off. I used to follow the Synthetic one and the "slippery subject" one over in M&R - lots of interesting stuff there (fwiw, I like the dead dino stuff myself ). Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
I think I will use it. My dealer said it is used, but it costs more. Approx 22 vs 44 bucks. Dino oil is changed every 5k, synthetic every 10k...therefore costs the same over time.
My VIN number is higher than what was supposed to be the cutoff of this problem, yet my driver's seat is starting to rock a little. It is not a lot right now but it is noticeable. Does anyone have any further info on this?
The armrests are indeed tied to the angle of the seat - at first I thought the driver's armrest was slanted down more but it is totally dependent upon the angle of the seat. I usually like my seat pretty much straight to support my back better, but with the armrest angled down, it makes it uncomfortable to use. Does anyone know if the armrest can be made to be independent of the seat angle? I noticed even the Kia Sedona (Edmund's review)has a ratched armrest allowing it to be positioned independent of the seat angle. Why doesn't Honda make one like that?

As for the armrest/seat angle... Take it apart, see how the mechanism works. Determine if you can jam something in there to stop it from lowering too far.
Fasteddie, you might want to check this with a mechanic, but... Even though the synthetic may last 10K before breaking down, you may still want to change filters every 4 or 5K. It can be done without losing the synthetic fluid.
I thought all wheel drive would eliminate this effect, but this morning the road was a little wet and I floored it from a stop to merge and it pulled to one side then the wheels squealed a little. I used to have a Subaru OB and it did not do this but it had a lot less power. It is a lot better than the Acura I traded in.That thing would spin it's front wheels like crazy in the least bit of rain when taking off.No gripes though. My CRV is a joy to drive in a suburban environment.
I've just had this computer a few months, so I hope my etiquette is correct. I have been car shopping for the last few weeks and have been reading your posts (am at #494). So much good info. I've owned 5 Honda Civics with no problems. Now I purchased an 02 CR-V EX Automatic for $19400. How does that sound? It will be here in a week or so. I'm sure I'll love it!
I posted this on another site but thought 2002 CRV owners would be interested> Just a warning for those thinking about purchasing a bug guard. JJ Products was mentioned another CRV site, so I purchased a guard from them. Alas, the list of items enclosed did not show the two clips that attach to the guard one above each headlight. The instructions mentions putting tape where the clips go - sure confused me for a while. My suggestion is to buy elsewhere. I have emailed them and hope to find out what gives. Going on a long trip in a few days a little irritated about the gaff. I guess there is a possibility that I am mechanically challenged. But, I noted that Fred S. posted about the two clips, and there are cut outs with holes in the bug guard for clips so I believe it is their omission. So now I have a red hood with a bunch of 3M bumper guards on it with no bug guard. Ugh
When I first saw one of your posts regarding torque steer it surprised me because my brother in laws 2002 CRV didnt seem to have torque steer. However, my new CRV definitely has torque steer, more that I would like as a matter of fact. The only difference in the two vehicles other than color is he got the Goodrich tires and I got the Bridgestone duelers. But I can't see how tires would affect torque steer. rockycow
Since this is my first AWD SUV, the torque steer issue is one I'm learning to deal with. Part of the problem is a regular FWD car will just spin on wet road if you start out to fast. You then get off the gas and gradually accelerate so you never really see much torque steer. Even on dry roads, a FWD will partially spin in a hard turn if you give it a lot of gas. With AWD you don't tend to get off the gas as much since you know the AWD will kick in and launch you, now the front tires start to bite and you start getting some torque steer. Again on a dry road during a power turn, if the front tires slip, the rear is going to kick in. You have to realize when your rear tires get power, some is taken away from the fronts, this may help it to grip again, thus you get a power surge as the front wheels grab again. I find that the torque steer can be from either side, you just have to be prepared for it. As far as why one brand of tire torques more than the other probably has to do with wet/dry grip abilities.
You message should get posted immediately. I did notice a glitch last night that kicked me off Town Hall for a while - maybe it got you too? Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
Ok, let's try this again. I bought a 2002 CR-V LX, w/o side-air bags, automatic, in blue for $19400. I was looking over the Edmunds site in early April and I hit that key that requests a quote from three local dealerships. Back it came. After speaking to the "Internet Coordinator", I went in to see the "Sales Specialist". I took my former-carsalesman son to defend me, but had no hassles. (I had had problems with this dealership years ago.) I had shopped around and, of course, had the Edmunds advantage. The big debate was 5-speed or automatic. I have only owned stick, but I would have had to wait quite a while for delivery and my son felt I needed the auto due to my advancing age (kids!). From what I've read in past posts automatics far outsell standards, so that was my final choice. I'm sure it will be fine. Who knows--I might like not shifting. So now I'm waiting for the automatic, hopefully, not long. This week I'm told. Thanks for all the info. This buying experience were pretty well.

I don't think you can get ABS on the LX. Also my new CR-V is a 4WD w/o side-air bags. I think it was a good deal. It has what I need to drive myself 20 miles to work in WI weather, maintain the safety of a two-year old grandson ( 4 doors to get him in and out, car seat anchors), and carry my bike around to area bike paths.
I follow the infamous "Sludge" board and have "kicked" many users from the Toyota Sienna discussion over there. I think Shifty has exercised much more restraint that I would have been able to. He's been a paragon of patient hosting. Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards

They don't stretch the wheelbase for that model, so even 7 seats would be tight.

The type of car you can stuff 10 people into is often loaded to the max with payload.
Hmm, the mind is wandering - imagine if they put those higher rate springs in the CR-V Open Air, to sell as the SE. :-)

"The rear floor has been lowered by 120 mm from the previous model to allow easier loading and unloading."
The "02 CR-V's floor is something like 4 inches lower than the '97-'01 model's.
It's good - the liftover is much easier on your back, for things like bagged top soil or mulch.

And actually, I don't know if a really powerful AWD vehicle would be completely devoid of torque steer. Is AWD a cure-all for torque steer?

system (ABS)?
You don't say if your CR-V was 2WD or 4WD....
That would make a big price difference.
PS can relate to your son's suggestion about
Auto vs Manual. A manual gets old with a lot
of city driving! and age!
