I wouldn't count on the dealer resetting it. Most don't unless they see it's on. But say it's only been 5000 miles since last reset, they won't bother with it. Plus there's no way to tell if they did or not until another 3000 miles or so. Well to reset:
1. insert key into ignition
2. press and hold odometer reset(keep holding til the end of procedure)
3. turn ignition key to on position.(maintenance light should flash for 5-10 seconds then stop)
4. Once maintenance light has disappeared, turn key to off, then release odometer reset button.
Turn the key to on once again to verify that the maintenance light is no longer lit. If it's off then the procedure was done correctly and has reset the computer. You can reset the maintenance clock even though it hasn't gone to the point of showing up yet. Hope this helps some of you.
The bar underneath the passenger seat that moves the seat forward/backward has come loose on one side. Not a major problem but curious how this would have happened. I use the storage area under the seat for keeping maps, tire gauge, maintenance records, etc and am pulling it out quite a bit. Maybe I dislodged something.
I'm shopping for a 36 or 39 month lease with a 12K mi/yr allowance on a 2003 EX and am trying to find out invoice prices, residuals, etc. I'd really appreciate any info. Thanks.
Are dealers really holding buyers close to MSRP for CR-V's? Edmunds shows $22,460 for an auto EX which has an invoice of $21,060 and an MSRP of $22,490!

i would imagine that the "seat rock" problem is more widespread than reported on this board. i would imagine that the seats were installed in the same fashion. it's a subtle thing, so many people would not be bothered by it. my wife, for example. i hope the tsb fix will do the job, because you start anticipating it at every stoplight.

Not if it was hit by a rock or something. That would be something covered by your automobile insurance.
If it just started cracking, or the seals started leaking, or bubbles started appearing inside the glass then you could probably get Honda to replace it under warranty. The key is that it would need to be a defect in the glass or the way it was installed, not due to something striking the glass and causing damage.

Hello, I've been reading this board for some time and am very impressed. I credit the participants with persuading me to buy my first CRV, a 2001 EX. I like the CRV much better than previous Grand Cke, Volvo Sptwgn. Now, at 38000 miles, I have a question. When making tight right or left turns there is groan that is likely coming from the rear end. The dealer says they need to replace the differential lubrication to fix the problem. The Honda service manual calls for this at 60000 to 90000 miles (normal or severe). Will replacing the rear lubrication work? Why would this need to be done at 38000 miles? Is this problem common?
Yes, this is a common problem that is easily cured by replacing the differential fluid. It's quick, easy, and takes very little fluid. I had to have mine changed at 50000 miles and don't consider my service to be severe.

I've just purchased a new 2002 CR-V. The tires that came with it are Bridgestone Dueler 684s. The appear to be a bit "wimpy" compared to other SUV type tires that I've had on past vehicles. Does anyone have any experience with these tires on the CR-V that they care to talk about?
My 02 CR-V came with those tires. They are really noisy and the ride are harsh. What I did was reducing the pressure to 30 psi which impoved the ride a bit. They look like snow tires so might be good in snow.
After a few days in my new CR-V. I noticed most of the road/tire noise comes from rear. I am thinking about putting sound deafening material under the trunk carpet (BTW the carpet is really thin). Anybody has experience?
The best thing I can say about my experience with these tires is that it wasn't very long. I had them worn down by 30,000 miles and I had to buy a new set. (I chose Dueler H/Ls which have been a marked improvement.)
These are popular tires for OEM's because they're inexpensive. They only retail for around $60 US and received very bad reviews at www.tirerack.com On the other hand the H/L's fared much better and don't cost that much more. Check out what others are saying at tirerack.com - there are lots of reviews and surveys so it's worth a look.

Thanks to those who responded. Your advice was right on. After reading your responses (and do it yourself instructions that I saved) I took the V to the dealer today to have the differential fluid changed. No more noise! (Cost was $37) Best regards, John
It seems to depend on the particular dealer also, and maybe your timing (i.e. random chance). I have a 2003 EX automatic on order. Two of the three local Honda dealers held firm at MSRP. The third readily agreed to a price that was lower than the Edmunds TMV in my area. Go figure.
Is there a way to modify the horn beep sound the CRV does when you lock the car using the remote? I find it to be too loud and sometimes need to check to make sure people are not too close when I click it. Can I attach a different sound device just for the remote beeping?
You probably know this but... You can lock the car by pressing "lock" once, and the car wont beep. That is what I do, I check for the blinking lights, or in addition I can hear the doors lock so I know the vehicle is locked. Even if you hit the unlock instead of the lock, after 30 seconds or so the car will automatically lock up. So blinking lights is all I need.
Alternatively if you wanted a different sound you would need to replace your horn you have now, then when you honk the horn it would sound like it would when you lock the car up. You could always muffle it with some sound proof material cloth.

My 2000 EX, 21K, just had the SRS light come on last week. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't expect it to be a major problem. It is still under warranty, I just need to find the time to take it in. The only other issue I had was around 13K. The air ducts in front of the windshield got blocked up with leaves, debris, etc... and I was getting water dripping in to the front passenger side feet area from under the glove box. The dealer cleaned it out, re-sealed it, and I have not had a problem since.
On the 02 CR-V LX (manual), how can I get air to recirculate without having on the A/C? I can't find a way to do it, since Max air and several other settings automatically cut on the A/C.
I like to run the A/C for a while, then cut it off and let recirculating air keep me cool for a while (as well as a cooler engine and better gas mileage).
With the 02 CR-V, if I cut off A/C, the outside air mix warms up what I'm getting within 10 sec.
You can get the recirc without air by hitting the ac button on your controls after switching to recirc.
(by the way, there is a reason it defaults to recirc - when in recirc you're much more likely to fog up your windows and by turing the ac on, it dehumidifies the air, minimizing this.)
Has anyone gotten a good deal on a CR-V in the Seattle area? Paid MSRP or even below MSRP? I could not find a dealership that is selling below MSRP in the Seattle area. Heck, they don't even sell them at MSRP. All of them has a huge dealer mark up or very expensive options added(like a $119 door-edge guard...etc)and most of them has both. Even carsdirect.com is selling with a $1,400 above the MSRP. Seemed like rest of the country is getting a better deal on Hondas. Not in Seattle(except '02 civics and Accords).

It wasn't. I brought it back and they kept it for 2 days trying to figure it out. They've done 2 front end alignments, tried different tires altogether, but they haven't been able to fix the pull problem. They now have a call in to the Honda Tech Service to see if they have a clue.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks
I have a 98 CRV EX. I just put a 1 1/4 inch DrawTite Hitch on. First bike rack I tried did not clear the spare tire. Wondering if anyone can recommend a specific Make and Model that will work. (I tried a Yakima 1/4 Roc.) Thanks, JB

The dealer wants a huge price for the crossbars(over $450.CDN).I know these bars are available from HandA for approx$275.CDN but they won't ship outside the US .Can anyone point me to another source.
Well, the freight costs start adding up and I don't know whether it's strictly "legal", but you could have a friend get them in the states and send you a "gift" in the mail.

I agree with daveghh-- check out Thule and Yakima. Both are very sturdy and I am very happy with my Thule rack on another small SUV.
I priced Thule locally (Columbia SC) at $195 for towers and crossbars. Yakima is a bit cheaper at $155. I decided to wait for the Yakima this time, since they are supposed to be available this month to fit the 2002 CR-V (and presumably the 2003). Thules have been available since at least August, but may require a special order.
No need to pay Honda's exorbitant roof rack prices with such good alternatives available. Check it out and good luck!
I was hoping to find a source for reasonably priced Honda cross bars for the existing Honda rails that come on the CR-V. That way I would leave the roofrack on all year round. I have a Thule ski carrier and would just need to buy a set of Thule adapter clamps for the Honda crossbars(assuming neither of the sets I have for a 94 Ford Explorer or my 98 Jeep Gr Cherokee will fit.}Still seems very strange to me that Honda sells the CR-V with only 1/2 a roofrack and then tries to hose you on what should be a $100 item ie: the crossbars
You buy Thule feet, a set of thule bars and that gives you the roofrack! That is all you need for a roofrack on the 2002, you don't need to have have cross rails from Honda!
Since you already have the Ski carrier you are good to go for a far cheaper price then the Honda parts.
