Did you remove the radio bezel? How difficult was that.
  • amilivamiliv Member Posts: 23
Actually, it was very easy. I posted my experience in "Hyundai Veracruz Audio Video DVD MP3 iPod AUX" thread. I found on one forum the image showing where the clips are located (though, it is easy to feel them too). The link is in that thread.

I used thin disposable plastic knifes to keep main clips disengaged. There's one clip on top and two on the side (times two, since there are two panels). If you slid the plastic knife (or some similar tool) between the panel and dashboard, and then slide it, you'll feel a small hole where the clip is (about inch wide). Then just wiggle the knife until it slips all the way in and leave it in place (to hold clip disengaged). Repeat for remaining clips.

After that, I pried off the covers using big flat screwdriver. Be gentle since there are some electrical connectors on the panel. Be careful not to loose any of those plastic knifes (or whatever other tool you used) that were holding clips inside dash cavity. You'll have fun time fishing them out.

Once the covers are off, you have access to 10 screws (5 on each side) that hold radio in place. Unscrew them and the radio comes out (you need to disconnect bunch of electrical connectors too).

You'll need to drill 3/4" hole in the back of that small storage compartment. I used 3/4" flat drill bit for wood (like this one). Worked nicely on plastic.

When drilling holes for screws, keep in mind that image in instructions is not to scale (regardless of what instructions say). The image is actually a bit smaller. If you cut it out and place it on top of storage compartment, you'll see it for yourself too. Be careful not to damage connectors inside auxiliary jack module when drilling. You'll need to drill a bit wider than on the image. I'd strongly suggest to measure few times before you drill.

If you drop any of the tools (or anything else) into the cavity (like I did) your best bet would be to remove the plastic cover that's around the shifter. It's very easy to pry off. Just insert screwdriver between the panel and plastic on each side and pry it off. To remove it completely, you'd need to remove the knob from the shifter, which I haven't figured out how to do without damaging it. Anyhow, even with the knob on, I was able to lift that plastic enough to fish out my stuff. There's a link in this thread to instructions for disassembling entire center console too.

All in all, it shouldn't take more than an hour to install.

    Hello,

I ordered my 2008 Veracruz Limited yesterday. The options I chose was the Navigation and I also wanted the Rear DVD Entertainment system factory installed. After searching for the car they came back to me and said I cannot have both. It is either one option or the other. Why? Does anyone know?

Now what we did was pick the Navigation option to be factory installed.

But the dealer after speaking for 15 minutes with his manager said their technicians, at the dealer here where I am getting the vehicle, said they could install the DVD entertainment system. But I was wary to make sure if everything is going to be the same. So I asked him will everything be the exact same. He again talked to his manager and said no. He told me, where you load the DVD, usually in the 2nd row center console, will not be there anymore. It will be replaced with the auxilary audio jack I opted to get also. Loading DVDs will be done on the actual unit where the fold out screen is, located up above. Also the fancy controls for the DVD, those knobs and button that is located in the 2nd row center console will not be there anymore. He said they will come with two wireless headsets and remote still.

My main question though is why can't I have both options factory installed?

    Thanks in advance.

Please reply as soon as you can. I am going to go and check out the vehicle in a couple days or so before they start to install the DVD entertainment system. I want to know if I should just do away with the DVD entertainment system before it is too late.

The bottom line is, Hyundai simply does not offer BOTH choices; you must decide between the two. I think it boils down to limitations on the amount of space in the dash; the navi unit doesn't leave room for the changer. There are also limitations with respect to extra inputs; the only option for external audio is via the "auxiliary audio jack", which is really an FM modulator. This means anything you plug into it gets heard by tuning your radio to a given frequency. This is NOT a high fidelity option, buyer beware.

The option your dealer is proposing is an aftermarket solution, and they are suggesting connection via the FM radio. This will be a compromise in functionality compared to the factory unit. I think you need to decide what is most important to you, the quality of the navigation integration, or the quality of the DVD integration. IMHO, the DVD functionality would win, because it has more demands from an audio perspective than does navigation.
  • fpostadanfpostadan Member Posts: 22
Thank you for your reply. My Dad called HYUNDAI, they said I need to call the dealer to make sure that whoever install the DVD should wire it so you can listen to it if you want and not interfere with your other system.

Also If I do have to choose between the two I am going for the Navigation. I do travel alot and have no kids. Plus you can play DVD movies with this Navigation setup they have going but only when you are in park, correct me if I am wrong.

Though I did like the rear entertainment because not only will you keep your friends occupied they gave you additional inputs (red white and yello) you can put in an Xbox to play video games good for if friends would ride along.

Hello - does anyone know how th go about having the mirrors programed so they do the down dip in reverse. The oners manual talks about the feature but it doesn't work on my vehicle (Limited AWD).

    Thanks.
  • bigjimd2804bigjimd2804 Member Posts: 34
This feature is not available in the North American market. :(
(There are many features in the owner's manual like this, unfortunately.)
  • doctorstidoctorsti Member Posts: 9
get the rear DVD. buy an aftermarket nav unit like the Garmin Nuvi. You can always upgrade/update the nav unit as they get better year to year but there would never really be a need to upgrade the rear DVD. Unless of course you just can't stand "standard def" TV anymore.... haha. Don't waste your money on integrated nav unless it's literally top of the line and upgradeable as things change with real time traffic reporting and such. My two cents. We were in the same spot and I struggled for at least a month over it. I am totally happy with my decision. Besides the Garmin unit is like 500 dollars and does more then then the stock unit that costs three times as much.
  • doctorstidoctorsti Member Posts: 9
totally wrong post number 2. They do in fact tilt down on both sides for me when I put my 2008 limited model in reverse. I only know about the limted model here so keep that in mind. Toggle the switch for the power mirror to the drivers side and leave it there. Put your car in reverse, did the mirrors move? If they didn't toggle it over to the passenger side and put it in reverse. Did they move? If no on both you don't have the feature. Drivers or passengers side toggle dips only the passenger mirror down in reverse and the other side toggle does both. Leave the toggle switch in the middle and the mirrors stay put.
  • oscar_gataoscar_gata Member Posts: 96
It depends on what model year you have. None of the 2007MY Veracruz have the tilt-in-reverse feature. Some 2008MY Veracruz have the feature, but others don't (it was added part way through the model year).
  • fpostadanfpostadan Member Posts: 22
I am getting both. The DVD entertainment will be aftermarket like the other guy mentioned so it will not look like the Rear Entertainment system. Altough they said they are connecting the wires behind the Navigation unit. So I will have control up front . Also I will be able to have a Red White and Yellow Input so I can add a video game console if I wanted to. And the Aux Audio Jack he said is not going to be FM modulated or whatever you call it. No units will go via the FM radio.

Regarding the Nav unit. You can insert updates for the Nav unit correct when they are available?
  • bigjimd2804bigjimd2804 Member Posts: 34
I stand corrected. I have a 2008 Limited, but my rear view mirrors don't have the ability to adjust automatically for reverse  . My VC was built late in August 2007, and apparantly this functionality was added later in the model year. (bummer)

Is it me, or is the RSE the worst piece of automotive engineering in history. Why can't I listen to the radio while playing a DVD in the back seat without having to use headphones? Why can't the system utilize normal controls, such as a "stop" function? Ugh.

I am getting a Bluetooth installed by the dealer for my Veracruz 08 Limited. I wanted to keep my sunglass holder. Also the features that Hyundai recommends which is that 325 dollar one or Johnson is very limited.

So the dealer recommended I get an Ego Flash. I am getting this one installed.
  • bluesilebluesile Member Posts: 4
    fpostadan:

I am wavering among Ego Flash, Parrot MK 6100, and Motorola T605. I'd like to have music streaming (A2DP and AVRCP) in addition to handfree. It has to route to the stereo system with mute function working.

How does the installation and use experience with Ego Flash turn out?

Some complain about Ego Flash's red and green buwtton - they are not a button per se and one has to squeeze very hard in order to use them.

Please kindly share your thoughts. Thx
  • fpostadanfpostadan Member Posts: 22
Thanks for the reply, it went down to a Parrot MK6100 Bluetooth (Paired excellent and works excellent) Not by choice but by preference of the vendor. It went smoothly and I still have the sunglass compartment amongst his gripe about Ego which I will not disclose in public.

    Rosen DVD Entertainment System

Aux Audio Jack (excellent blue color to match the instrumentation mid console compartment)

Thanks for reading and those that responded. I am in the breaking in period of the car right now.

I am smitten and just in awe about the features toward drivability versus other midsize such as for example AWD Lock button, awesome when the time comea, and ESC button when the time comes. (loved reading that it would blink on the instrumentatuion when engaged).

This breaking in period might be the best because i read somewhere that the technoloyg of the engine or what not learns from driver traits.

08 VC Limited AWD NAVI - April manufacture date.
  • bluesilebluesile Member Posts: 4
Great to hear your final choice on bluetooth.
    1. is installation smooth? do you happen to know whether the vendor has to cut wires or he has an matching adaptor. Is your Rosen DVD Entertainment System part of original equipment? Is the Audio Jack come with your DVD or with MK6100?

    2. how is MK6100 perform? does music streaming/muting work?

    Thanks for sharing your experience.
  • fpostadanfpostadan Member Posts: 22
    1. The installation went real smooth. The installer/vendor (where the dealer brought my car to supposedly a Hyundai trained recommended installer) communicated with me over the phone and even took pictures and sent them to me via email where he recommended it would be going.

    image

I am glad I accepted his recommendation and not force mine which had a metal plate behind he couldn't and didn't want to penetrate. It looks real good and because its the MK6100 the dual mic is with the unit which is facing me through the steering wheel.

I do not know if he had to cut wires or used matching adaptors.

When you mean part of original equipment, do you mean the factory installed entertainment system - Rear Entertainment System? If so, no it is not the factory installed RES. I wanted the Navigation System more than the RES. I couldn't have both. So basically the Rosen RES was also installed by the same guys who installed the Bluetooth. The Rosen Entertainment System is real nice but it is FM Modulated which means, I guess, that you have to have it to a preset FM station so that it plays through all the speakers. That is if everyone wanted to hear the DVD. But the 2 wireless headset it comes with is very comfortable and the sound is excellent.

No, the Audio/Aux Jack that I am talking about does not come with the RES, although it has an Aux jack so that you can plug in audio and video jacks (red/white/yellow) which is included if you want to play video games or watch a camcorder or view from digital cameras.

    2. The MK6100 performs well. Though the voice recognition sometimes doesn't understand what your saying (like most voice recognitions I have seen). I just wheel scroll straight to the phone book (voice prompt "phone book') which lists your contacts in alphabetic order and voice prompts you to the letter you are on as you scroll through so that you don't have to look at the unit. The voice also pronounces the names on your phonebook. Easy to understand without looking at the unit or your phone which was my main objective in getting a Bluetooth. Or you can make a call the original way which is by manually dialling a number which is also voice prompted.

It also comes with a wireless remote. I didn't like it positioned on the steering wheel as it got in the way but with the matching skin of the wireless remote i sticky mounted (don't get the strong double sided sticky mounts because you might have to take it off again) by the left side of where the shifter and the heat seat buttons are. It would also probably look good sticky mounted below the emergency button. The wireless remote is very easy to use that you don't have to look at it anymore when you answer or make calls or when you scroll through the menu. Everything has a voice prompt so you don't have to look down.

It does automatically stream MP3 files some other music files from your phone with the touch of the play button on the wireless remote. I think you can even just have a bluetooth capable mp3 player for it to play as well.

Muting is automatic when an incoming or outgoing call is made.

My only two gripe about the MK6100 is, maybe i just don't know if it requires a certain setup, is that it does not keep track of your received/missed/made calls even though it has that functionality in the unit.

Also whenever you miss a call and/or someone leaves a voicemail and you did not confirm/clear it - meaning, you hear beeps when you have missed calls or when someone leaves a voicemail on your phone right? Well, you usually confirm/clear it on your cellphone so you do not hear beeps anymore. Well when this happens in the car when your phone is connected to the Bluetooth and you did not confirm/clear your missed calls or your voicemail notifier (I don't mean to delete or hear your voicemail) on your cellphone, the Bluetooth just mutes the audio of the radio or CD in intervals say 30 secs or less. Am I making sense? So it sounds like your radio is being cutoff or CD player is being cutoff but it would turn back on and cut off again. I though it was a wiring problem at first but it was just I did not confirm/clear my missed calls or voicemail notification on my phone. The MK6100 does not notify you with a beep or something that you have a missed call or that someone has left a voicemail other than cutting off the audio as if it is muting the audio for an incoming or outgoing call. I think it has something to do with the beeps you normally hear when you miss a call or someone leaves a voicemail. No biggie.

The Audio Auxilary Jack was installed by the guys at the Hyundai Dealer itself and is located in that slim first compartment below the center console where all the air quality buttons are. It is nice blue light when it is on. It is also FM modulates where you have to have the radio to a certain frequency.

    I am very satisfied.
  • fpostadanfpostadan Member Posts: 22
regarding my second gripe, cutting audio off and on. It does notify you with a beep if you miss the call or have voicemail notification or what have you. Just remember not to have your phone on vibrate :D.

Still though the first grip still stands.

HI, I have been a happy owner of a 08 Veracruz limited for half a year.

One day, I suddenly realized that the sunroof doesn't seem to want to open all the way. The reason I'm not 100% sure it's broken is that I do not remember how far it could slide back when I bought it.

Now, the sun shade and the glass don't go back the same amount. When the glass is all the way back, I can still slide the sun shade about 2 inches more.

Is this the design or I need to see my dealer?

Please take a look at your sunroof and let me know how far can yours slide back.

    Thanks
  • oscar_gataoscar_gata Member Posts: 96
My co-worker's Veracruz Limited has a sunroof. When the sunroof is all the way back, it is about 5 inches from the back of the opening and the sunshade will slide back another 2 inches. It looks like it must be designed that way, since you would not be able to use the sunshade's hand grip if it slid all the way back.
  • hoo320hoo320 Member Posts: 46
    thanks, man,
    That is an odd design
  • hoo320hoo320 Member Posts: 46
I want it to slide back two more inches, to where the sunshade is.

Hi, I have since three month a 08 Veracruz 13GLS configuration (in some countries kown as Limited Edition), and I'm very happy with it.

But one thing bugs me, on the left lower side of the dash is a round cluster, containing two switches, according to the manual, the left one is for the front fog lights, the right one for the tail fog lights. Switching both ON, the font fogs come on, but there is nothing changing in the rear.

Looking at the LED-type tail light assemblies, I don't see where the fog lights might even be installed, this cluster is full. I guess, if there are any tail fog lights, they should be in the rear bumper, like on the Santa Fe, but there are only red cat-eyes on my vehicle.

Manual says "Tail fog lights (if installed)", now if they are not installed, why is the switch installed??

    Thanks
  • jmaulsbyjmaulsby Member Posts: 54
Someone on the assembly line installed a switch by accident. I am not aware of rear fog lights for the Veracruz in the United States.
  • peterw2peterw2 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for your reply. But I’m not in the US; I’m an expat living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

However, there is more to it than meets the eye. I checked the trim level spec sheet I got while shopping for a new car and it clearly states “front and rear fog lights”. But I’ts futile to get in discussions with this reps here.

My question is, are there any original rear fog lights from Hyundai for the Veracruz? Or fancy looking ones? Because the regular aftermarket pieces have a disturbing influence on the rear look of the car, and make it look ugly.

After all, we have dense morning fog from November till March; just two days ago the airport was closed for hours because of it. Front fog lights are not enough.

    I have a veracruz limited 08'.
I followed the programming instructions for homelink setup, but failed.

Is there anyone who can give me the very detail instruction on setup the gate opener?

I checked the homelink website, but not cleared...
  • mobizmobiz Member Posts: 4
I just had to do this last week on our 08 VC Limited. Do you have a rolling code opener? I do, and the instructions weren't very clear for rolling code, but figured it out.

Follow the "Standard programming" section first even if you have rolling code.

THEN if you have rolling code, follow the "Rolling code programming" section in your manual. I emphasize the "THEN" because that is missing from the Hyundai manual. You may need to look at your garage opener's manual on how to program. My garage opener did have basically the same instructions that Hyundai has in the manual.

The piece that wan't clear for me was that I had to do the standard programming portion even if I have rolling code.

These aren't detailed, but I'm hoping you had the same confusion I had.

Post back on how it goes!
  • jchiangjchiang Member Posts: 2
    Thanks for the advice.
I tried by following the instruction on the Homelink website.
Do we have the programming instruction on the service manual?
I have to find the manaul ....

If you have the instruction, would you please share with me?

Check under the "owner's manual in pdf format" post. There's links to where you can download a pdf of the Veracruz manual.

Similar set-up in Honda DVD systems as well but the DVD player is upfront. At least with the Hyundai you have a separate DVD player for the back so you can listen to a CD up front while the youngsters watch a movie. Maybe on an 80K Lexus the set-up is better but bang for buck we're thrilled with the Hyundai DVD system.

Has anyone purchased additional headsets? Who from and where? The OEM headsets that came with our recently purchased used '07 are okay but not worth $57 each from Hyundai. Also, how do you change the battery on the remote?

    Great car!!!!

    Try ebay - I saw a pair of Hyundai/Kia wireless headphones/headsets for $59 shipped.

The batteries are in the right headphone. You push a latch located at the bottom of headphone and it releases the cover. The cover needs to be pried off with your fingernail to reveal the batteries.

I just bought a slightly used 2007 FWD Veracruz Limited. We love car!!! Do I need to buy wiper replacement blades from Hyundai or will the auto-wipers work with any type of blade? I need to replace the blades only not the entire assembly.

    Thanks!
  • stushstush Member Posts: 62
No, you can go to any parts store and get them. Auto Zone will even put them on. I have a 07 Entourage, just put them on 3 days ago. It's easier to replace the whole assembly. I bought 2 Rainex Lattatudes from Pep Boys, buy 1 get 1 free with mail in rebate. But I do believe I have to have the dealer replace the rear wiper blade. Never asked ,but, it just looks like a dealer only part. I can't seam to figure out how to remove it.
  • jmaulsbyjmaulsby Member Posts: 54
I just had my wiper blades, front and back, replaced by the dealer for $45, but there was no charge for labor! I got lazy this time, but will not purchase the next set from Hyundai. Each blade was $15.
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
I dont know about the 07 model, but my 08 I found out that the wiper mounts are not a standard type, they clip on the arm with a different style mount. The standard hook wiper arm blade that you normally see on a car wont work on the 08. In fact there was NO listing for any wipers in any of the books or catalog lookup on the computer. Same goes for the rear wiper.

Oh and jmaulsby, $15 for those blades is not bad at all. A set of Bosch blades of the type used on the VC are $20 each. The blades I purchased, thinking they would work cost me $44 with tax for just the two front blades. Luckily they refunded them right away after I showed them the factory blade.

    Any resolution to this?

I have a GLS as well and the dealer told me that the roof is not structurally sound for a roof rack unless installed on model with a roof equipped for it. Like a factory sunroof being reinforced in the roof more than an aftermarket.

Not sure I am buying any of this and the rack should be mandatory on all veracuz's.

Can't make a big deal about 7 passenger seating if there is nowhere to put anything they might bring along.

I have seen the racks that lock into your door sills but I want a proper one.
  • busmaster44busmaster44 Member Posts: 20
No update, and I totally agree with what you said. Have you ever tried to pull off the molding on top and see if there are screws or screwholes underneath to mount one?
  • worldrevolverworldrevolver Member Posts: 19
Nope, but I well try that. It would be great if there is a mounting point hiding under the molding.
  • JozzJozz Member Posts: 9
If you don't need rooftop storage often, I'd recommend soft carriers, which can be folded away and wouldn't cause any problem with low clearance garages. Some can be mounted with Car Clip Strap Set for Vehicles w/o Roof Racks found here--
    http://www.lakelandgear.com/car-top-carrier-bag-cargo-roof-luggage-rack.aspx (no association)

You'd also get a bit help with MPG without the roof rails.

First time since I bought the veracruz that it has been warm enough to have all the windows down, can't believe I didn't check this when I purchased the vehicle.

The 2nd row windows don't go all the way down. In fact they don't even "safety stop" as well. They go almost all the way down but still stay up about 2 inches or so. I have no idea why this is the height they went with as they are almost all the way down but not. If someone wanted to rest their arm on the sill they have to put it on top of the glass. It makes no sense. Either half way down or all the way down, not 2 inches from down. Heck it might just be an inch and a half. Silly.

Regardless, has anyone had the safety stop removed so they go all the way down or does anyone even know if that is possible? I have a mechanic I took my previous vehicle to exclusively and I plan on asking him about this so I will post here if I find out the info first.

No reason they should not go all the way down.
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
Did you consider that the glass and mechanism is longer than the door itself? This is the limiting factor on all rear windows, and has nothing to do with how far down the designers wanted the window to go down to. I don't know what you mean by safety stop either, if you are referring to stopping the window and reversing when it is closing and a hand gets in the way, only the drivers window has that feature.
  • worldrevolverworldrevolver Member Posts: 19
Nah, the safety stop was that half way down window thing where children or dogs could not leap out of the moving vehicle. It was an 80's thing I think.
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
    Ah ok.

I used to have a 79 LTD wagon, and always wondered why the back windows only went down halfway, until I took the door panel off and realized the window width exceeded the door width halfway down. I have a 99 F350 crew cab, the rear windows go all the way down too. If the rear door has an arch for the rear wheel, that limits how far down the window can go.
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
Double bummer, I wonder if there is a way to add the module. Road trip to dealer parts guy anyone?
  • worldrevolverworldrevolver Member Posts: 19
Yeah that might just be it. The design of the window itself. Makes good sense.

My pop has a Tucson and the windows go all the way down so that made me think it was something odd not having the Veracruz windows go down all the way. Another off-topic but cool touch in the Tucson is the front door panel plastic pocket things. (not sure what the correct term is) The place where you put things you want to slide around and annoy you or just collect for future disposal.

Anyway, they flare out at the front to act as additional drink holders. Clever and not present on the Veracruz. It's a shame useful features don't make it across all models within a make.

Also to add to the 2nd row windows action, I called my dealer and spoke with the service department. They said no go on the windows going down all the way by altering them or removing anything. They had no explanation, just said they don't go down all the way. I may just take it over to my local repair shop and see if they will remove the panel just so I can see with my own eyes if it can be done or not.
