I stopped by the Toyota dealership over the weekend and it looks like the Venza will not launch until Feb or March of 09 - anyone else hear something different?
Wouldn't surprise me. You would think with the price of gas, Toyota would make it available with a 4cyl Hybrid. That and trying to eliminate defects may be a couple reasons for a possible delay with the launch.
I am debating between the Murano by Nissian, the Flex by Ford, the Borrego by Kia & the Venza. My Expedition is on it's last leg. :sick: I would really love to compare the Venza to the others before making a decision. In reading up on the Venza, it appears to have exactly what I'm looking for & the gas mileage is better than the others mentioned, but if it's not out by Labor Day, I'll be purchasing from someone else.
According to the Toyota website: http://www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/index.html the Venza will be coming in late 2008, I would trust this source more than what a dealer would say since they most likely want people to buy something on the lot now, especially with Toyota sales declining. In addition, Toyota has been publicizing this vehicle online since January, I am sure they would not have started so soon if they were going to wait almost 2 years to sell it. Just my .02 worth.
In the Consumer Reports 2009 Preview, it stated the price range for the Venza was $23k-$28k which seems on the low side to me and nothing on various trim levels. There was not a great deal of information on it which you can't get elsewhere and it did not have any information on gas mileage. Anyone hear anything else?
I'm pretty sure that these are the Base Prices before any options are added. As I understand it the V6 Venza will debut first in November. Think Avalon or V6 Camry XLE wagon with LOTS of nice features for about $33000 ( $28000 Base + options ).
Then the new 2.7L I4 will arrive in early 2009. I'd liken it to the 4c XLE Camry but with a much much better engine with a Base Price of $23000 and an effective MSRP of $25000-$30000.
At the debut of a new model all makers come out first with the loaded versions for the 'I gotta have one first' buyers. After some time the more basic models begin to arrive ( mid 2009? ). I'd think that getting a new 2.7L standard model in the $24000-$25000 range will be feasible next summer.
Regarding the power and FE there is a lot of great info over at TN about the new family of engines that will be arriving soon. The next one to arrive will be the 2AR-FE 2.5L which will begin to replace the 2.4L 2AZ engine. It will first arrive in the 2009 RAV next month. 179 hp vs ( 161 hp ) and 1-2 mpg better FE at the same time!!! Nice job there.
The 2.7L I4 in the Venza will likely be the 1AR engine and get 195-200 hp with FE ratings similar to the current Camry 20 City/30 Hwy. That's a really nice for that power bump and the size and weight of the Venza.
The 2.5L 2AR-FE will then go into the Camry next spring. and the 2.7L 1AR will likely go into the Highlander at some time later.
based on specs I read, the Venza should be able to handle 3 car seats in the back. But will it be designed (with 3 sets of LATCHes) to do so? anyone heard anything?
I certainly hope not. The initial press releases did not mention any 3rd row kiddy seat and I hope Toyota keeps it word. I want the extra storage area and less weight.
I did not mention a 3rd row. I was referring to 3 seats in the 2nd row. some wide cars can do that, such as the toyota sienna. this car's specs indicate it is 75" wide, more then wide enough for 3 car seats in one row...if the designers put the latches in. If they do, I will buy one for my wife rather then some monster minivan.
Yes the Venza would seem to me to be a perfect fit for a new 2.5L+HSD linkage. However regards the RAV + Hybrid I just have a feeling that Toyota won't offer one because that would 'intrude' on the Ford territory with the FEH.
As of now none of the hybrid makers compete directly against one another. Now soon there will be lots of competition when the Fusion/Milan and Aura/Malibu and Sonata hybrids hit the streets. After that I'd say all 'agreements' are off.
They are really shooting themselves in the foot by not offering a hybrid RAV4 by now.
I bet AWD will only be offered on the V-6 models, didn't they pretty much do that in effect with the last-gen Highlander? I think AWD was technically available with the 4-cylinder engine, but just to try find one.

I've noticed this week that Toyota has released advertising widgets that have appeared on several sites that allow you to select your Venza color. Interesting that it is not on the main Toyota site though. For those who missed it, the colors are very similar to the edge including the popular burnt orange, etc.... Looking forward to driving later this year.
So it is hard to capture the URL. It is Google's search algorithm that is selecting to display the add on my results, probably on my browsing history. For example, if I go to http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241311 , their is a Toyota Venza advertisement on the bottom with the color choices.
I'm no car buff, and don't know one engine from another, but I'm looking for a car that is easy to get in and out, high enough to see the road, comfortable to drive, lots of room for shopping bags, and reasonable mpg. I like the look of the Lexus RX, but can't afford it. Looked at the Nissan Murano, but it recommends using premium gas, which is a waste of money. I drive mainly on city streets I've read so many bloggers put this new car down, but the description of the new Venza sounds like it's for me. Am I missing something??
Maybe me, too. Very much looking forward to seeing and sitting in the Venza. I now drive an '07 4-cylinder Highlander, and it's great. Just looking to upgrade to something with a bit more style and better handling, while keeping the the room, the high seating, good mileage, comfort and maybe a bit more quiet on the freeway.
The Highlanders have always been built in Japan, so it'll be interesting to see how this KY-built rig is put together.
The '09 Highlander will also offer a base model with the 2.7L 4-cyl engine. Anyone have any info on how much less the Venza will cost?
I still think about downsizing into an '09 Matrix. If I wasn't such a wide guy, I would have already. It's got high seating (for a small car), great room with it's hatchback and fold-down seats, and gets much better mileage than the Venza ever will.
I'm ready to say "Me too" also, and line up to buy one. But the $60,000 question is, "How much will this thing cost?"
I will be very turned off if a base Venza V6 doesn't come in at around $25k sticker. After all, I see this as a wagon version of a Camry, so if the price is too far out of Camry territory, I will probably look at something else.
Hello all, I was at the Anaheim auto show yesterday in Southern California and they had the brownish gold one there on display. Let me tell you absolutely gorgeous in person. The inside and outside just all really work together.
They said the car is coming out this November also, I asked to make sure. If it priced right and gets good mileage it should be a definite winner!

saw the same thing, car on turntable with model reciting material and taking questions, didn't think to ask her if I could sit in it or look up close at the hatch area.
I like that pricing structure. 23k basic model and 33k loaded leather panoramic roof JBL luxury model sounds pretty good. Is it too much to hope that the 23k figure includes destination and delivery?
And speaking of the November release date... Is Toyota planning on having 4-cyl models available at launch or do we still have to wait for early next year to get one of those like they had mentioned in the past?
I understand, but not confirmed, that initially the Venza will get just the 3.5L in Nov. Early next year is when the 2.7L will arrive in the Venza and the Highlander.
Initially when a new model is intro'd the most expensive trims come out first. This is no different than any other new vehicle.
Hawkeyefan, I am looking at the Venza 6sp auto 4cylinder AWD for my next car and I expect 30mpg highway with that Venza.
I own an 08 XB and I like it just fine ...for the price. The mileage is good, especially on Iowa 2 lane roads with a silly speed limit @55mph I get 32mpg. At 75 on the freeway it gets 28. The problem is the transmission not the engine...it needs the 5speed or 6 speed. I have rented and taken a trip with the heavier Camry with the same engine but 5 speed auto and it managed to get 32mpg at 75mph.
My friend has an AWD V6 with (5speed auto) Rav 4 and he matches my highway mileage but can't match my XB's 26 city.
Just my opinion but if they made the XB in AWD with 5 or 6 sp auto, they could stop building many small SUV's. This XB is as roomy as the RAV and other small SUV's inside. On the other hand SUV's give manufacturers lots of profit at 10 grand more than my XB.
By the way my XB gets around great in snow with the traction control and just FWD. The vehicle stability control is great on ice. Thanks \ Bing
I was at a dealer in san diego and the sales rep said they would have a v6 on oct 18. he did not have an incentive to say this, as i had just mentioned i was either going to buy a sienna or venza. I tested the sienna and in the 8 passenger configuration, i was able to put 3 car seats in the second row, so i could just keep the third row folded for a big storage area. if the venza does the same, i would wait to buy that in a v4. oh, he said they won't really have v6s to sell until november (the once he is getting on oct 18 is for the showroom floor to help get pre-orders for the november cars) and the v4s in january. If anyone know if you can fit 3 car seats in the second row of a venza, pls let me know.
I haven't heard anything about a 2.7L AWD yet. Toyota notoriously keeps its mouth closed about details until just before launch date. Anything would be speculation only.
Speculation: the I4 RAV has a 4WD option so the Venza might also.

for the seats, don't trust the published measurements, since it really depends on how the seats are made (bolsters, angles, etc). Only real option is to drag them all into the showroom, and stick them in there! At least you don't have to buckle them up.
Plus, there are some skinnier seats, so if you other wise love the car, you might be ble to replace a seat or 2.
Also, I noticed in the Autoweek buyers guide that came yesterday that 20" wheels were standard, and I assume this means for the 4 cyl too. If so, tremendous overkill. Heavier, more expensive, degrade handling, etc. 18" would be more than enough IMO for what is essentially a Camry station wagon!
Where is everybody getting such unrealistic expectations of gas mileage on the Venza? I predict about 26/20 for the 4cyl AWD version, 25/18 for the 6cyl AWD version, 27/21 for the 4cyl 2wd, and about 26/19 for the 6cyl 2wd. Anyone thinking about 30 must be dreaming. This vehicle will be at least 3600 lbs in 2wd form and about 3800 lbs in AWD form. That puts it about 200 lbs more than the Camry in fwd form and about 400 lbs in AWD form. I am not sure a hybrid version would even get 30 referencing the Highlander Hybrid as an example. The Venza will be bigger, heavier, and have more 4 cyl horsepower than the RAV4. The new 2.5 higher efficiency 4cyl in the RAV4 gets 27/21 in AWD form. The Venza will probably get slightly worse, and it would be a miracle to even get the same mpg.

The base Highlander does not include any of these features, so I'm guessing the Venza will be priced/positioned higher than the Highlander.
I've been mulling over a Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, or Nissan Murano for several months now. At this point, I'm waiting till the Venza hits the streets and the 2010 RX is announced.

Yes this is an accurate guess IMO. Certainly at first the high end loaded up trims will be debuted. We know for sure that the V6 will be shipped for the first 2-4 months then the new 2.7L I4 will ship early next year.

I wasn't that thrilled when I first saw photos of it earlier in the year, but it's slowly grown on me. On Flickr there are photos of a silver Venza; I think it looks better in that color than the bronze/brown that Toyota seems to champion, but that's just me. I really want to see one in person.
To celebrate being built at the TMMK plant in Georgetown, Toyota will be offering the Venza with a limited production Red, White, and Blue paint scheme.
Some minor observations and speculation after looking at the photos and what little non-Toyota PR info is out there: No puddle lamps or turn-signal repeaters in the mirrors (2010 Lexus RX has both; Highlander Limited has the former) The 4 cyl model has body-colored door handles; the V6 appears to have chrome None of the photos show a "smart key" button on the exterior door handles (usually it's a little black square) The optional JBL appears to be a "JBL Synthesis" system (surround sound), based on the JBL badge on the front door speakers Two interior colors so far -- tan and grey (not a huge surprise, though Highlander has three if you include black on the Sport). Black carpeting for both interior colors (that's different; even the "charcoal" interior in my 4Runner has light grey carpeting) Same fuzzy, mouse-fur headliner material that's in the Highlander; lots of reviewers complained about it with the Highlander (but how often does anyone really touch the headliner anyway?) Does not look like the floor in the back is completely flat (like in the Highlander), or if there's a slight hump in the middle. There have been compliments on the material quality, but noone has stated whether the dash uses soft-touch materials or if it's hard plastic like the Highlander. The middle-position in the rear seat has a seat-mounted seat belt, not an irritating to look at ceiling-mounted one like the Murano. Looks like the same type of multi-info display that's found on the Highlander; guessing this is where the rear-view camera is displayed without Nav (I like that better than the rear-view mirror approach others are using)
I've also seen the 11/3 date on ToyotaUSA's YouTube channel, so I think it's pretty much confirmed. Can't wait.

I'm guessing that the optional "Convenience Package" that's mentioned on Toyota's site (if you look at the exterior photos in the Venza mini-site) includes the SmartKey and chrome door handles. I'm also guessing that the convenience package includes the power rear liftgate, which is missing on the White V6 in the photos.
If I can get a 2WD V6 with the SmartKey, HIDs, power rear door, JBL, and glass roof for around $36K MSRP, that'd be a good deal. A similarly equipped Murano LE (AWD only) would list around $38K, I believe. Of course, no one pays MSRP, so the street price should be lower (maybe not initially, but sales are slow all around).
And here's a dealer with two Venzas in their online inventory. It lists the standard equipment and the contents of the "Premium Package." No pricing, though.

I think it looks like a cool vehicle, but my wife and I are probably just gonna get a Rav4 and maybe get a Venza later on.

A similarly equipped Murano LE (AWD only) would list around $38K, I believe. Of course, no one pays MSRP, so the street price should be lower (maybe not initially, but sales are slow all around).
