As a Vehicle Data Analyst you'll be responsible for the first step in getting all of Edmunds' core data on to our site for consumers. You'll take the raw data from OEM's (auto manufacturers) and transform it into usable pieces of information that are displayed everywhere on the site from research pages, to editorial write ups, to inventory listings.
What You'll Do:
Research, interpret and entry - you’ll be responsible for a set list of OEMs and must ensure the data for these OEMs is complete and up to date. A typical day could consist of a combination or all of the following:
Researching the assigned OEM's for additions/updates/changes
Helping a team member out if they are swamped with their updates
Peer reviewing data additions/updates
Performing vehicle inspections to fill in missing data points and even helping test/create new tools and functionality to make our job more efficient
What You Need:
We deal with a LOT OF AUTOMOTIVE DATA – this person must be ready to breath, eat and sweat all things automotive. Quite honestly, you have to be an auto enthusiast and comfortable working with data to be successful in this role
The ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in a fast paced environment. Data never sleeps. Both time and accuracy are of the essence
Proficiency with Gmail and MS Office - Word, Excel (Access is a plus but not required)
Now the big question - why would you want this job? – here’s why:
You’ll be part of an elite team of auto freaks that get to live everything automotive
You’ll have a very tangible impact on the whole car buying process (think big!!)
You’ll be part of a wonderful office (award winning design) and work environment – very results oriented offering great work like balance
Lastly we are ‘just right’ sized – not too small to be scraping for cash/survival and not too large to become part of the corporate grind
It is too bad relocaiton is necessary.... personally, I would just write software which would gather and parse the information and data from all of the various sources. It sounds to me as if 80 percent of this job-description could be automated with software. The job of the human would be to validate the results before posting on Edmunds site. (Which would also be automated with software.)
In todays world, there should NEVER be a need to manually enter data which is sourced electronically, into a website.

I'll ask and get back to you.
And here is the answer:
The position is indeed based in Santa Monica and we're only considering locally based candidates for this type/level of role.
Ah...I wasn't really wanting to move back to So. Cal anyway.
I could stand some SoCal weather....
