The extended warranties sound cool on paper, but probably would be worth little in real life (and this is coming from someone who drove his last new car for 15 years and 200,000 miles - never a drivetrain hiccup).

Sounds like a great price to me, especially compared to where you started a few weeks ago. You have way more patience than I do!

Let us know how it goes.

@brian125, Are there any hyundai dealers you recommend? I thought I had a deal all sealed up about 1.5 hrs from Augusta when I was going over everything and they (different dealer) had the wrong VIN # on the bill of sale (for a lesser trim). I'm getting tired of playing this game with everyone and have wasted a significant amount of my time on the phone, with emails and occasional dealership visits.

I see you list you are loctaed in Myrtle Beach. Any dealerships in particular that you'd recomend. It seems when I get down to about 28K OTD (~25.8 prior to taxes/doc/tag fees) that this is where most people either 'can't get to' or it is their bottom.

Thanks so much for your time and response. Really appreciate it.

Sorry thats one car i have not shop in N.C/ S.C. I would make a list of all the dealers your willing to travel to and make your best deal. No better way than doing it that way.

If you target 20 dealerships you will know what the best bottom line price is.. Take it, or wait another month or two for pricing to come down some more.

I have some good Hyundai dealers here in NY / NJ

Mick I too am looking for the big Santa Fe (but to lease) I am in NJ, I went to AMEX car purchase site.
For what you are looking for its a MSRP of $41,275 with a price between $36,300-39,413 in our area.
    The AWD adds about $2000
    The tech pkg adds $4850

I then went to a lease calc to work numbers, hope this helps, good luck

Iron Frost / Grey int. Not my first choice but the supply is really tight on the LTD AWD Tech combo.

The names they come up with for "silver". B) But it does have that deeper metallic look going for it. I keep going back to that shade since they don't show dirt.

Hi everyone! I am looking to purchase the Santa Fe Limited model but don't need the navigation package. I used the tips on these forums to negotiate a great deal for. 2012 Sonata for my mom at the end of 2012 and am hoping to use the same techniques to get my Santa Fe. However, I notice that the inventories right now on 2014 models are quite low (with many colors not even available at any of the dealers nearby. I am guessing this is because they are getting ready for the 2015 models.

I am open to either the 2014 or 2015, actually, so any suggestions on how I can use this time period to my advantage? I am guessing they aren't likely to tell me when the 2015s will be available, right? Any info on what my target price should be for a 2014? I would like to buy within the next 3-4 weeks.

Thanks so much for any expert advice and insight!

Hello...New poster here, but I've been reading Edmunds religiously and doing my research before I purchased my Santa Fe. Wish I had found this forum before actually pulling the trigger, but hopefully I did ok.

Just bought a 2014 Santa Fe Sport, Marlin BLue, with the popular package and some accesories (first aid, mud guards, cargo trunk cover, trunk mat, etc) for $26,000 OTD. That was the price after a $1500 but also included all taxes, fees and charges. The dealer I got it from didn't have all the ridiculous added fees on the invoice, so I saved some energy not having to negotiate those off.

I also was looking at Certified Pre-Owned/Used, but those prices were slightly less, if not more than the new car prices. Also, after visiting and speaking to different dealerships inventory appears to be low for what I was looking for.

Overall, love the car, good buying experience, and since we drive our cars for years (my trade had 207000), I hope to not have to buy another car for a long time (and with a very good warranty, I don't think I will).

You will get a better deal on a 2014 model. Calculate all the incentives that apply to you on the 2014 then add another 1500 to your target price to buy. Then email all dealerships internet sales depts. in your area with your target price to buy that day.

Got my 2014 Santa Fe Sport FWD 2.4L with Popular Package, lifetime tires, and some accessories for $25,686 OTD. Those in the know: How did I do? This was actually my first time buying a car. I had my previous car for 10 years and it was a gift for my graduation.

I feel good about my OTD price, but feel like I could have driven them down a little more. My wife and I walked out once when they wouldn't give us the bottom line we wanted. They ran out to get us as we were driving away and conceded to our number. Since they didn't actually let us drive away, I feel like there may have been a little more room there.

It took about 3 days emailing back and forth with half a dozen local dealerships to get down to a number I liked. I then went in to the dealership that was most convenient to me, was rated highly, and agreed to my price. I made it clear before going in that we weren't at my number yet, but my wife wanted to drive the car. As I mentioned above, they conceded to our number in the end.

We are going to be buying another car in a few years for my wife, so any feedback on the number I got would be appreciated. If I could have gotten them much lower, I want to know so I don't make the same mistakes the next time around. Thanks!

Sounds like we got a very similar deal. I got almost the exact same car within a few hundred of the same OTD price. If you don't mind me asking, what city are you in (I'm curious to see if there is any significant price change across regions)? I know someone who could not get any dealers below $27,000 OTD for the same vehicle in Chicago. I am in Atlanta.

I'm located in Southern New Jersey. It does seem like your location has a lot of influence on the deal you end up getting. I see people on here getting $25,000 OTD. I couldn't get them to go that low. I should have asked for some extras though (i.e. free oil changes, tow hitch, etc)

Posted this in lease section, thought it would make sense here too:
Just some friendly info- If you are in the market for a Santa Fe GLS (big one) Base with Port options only, 2wd or AWD without Premium or Technology pkgs., they are almost impossible to find. When and if you do, your dealer may try and swap a car with that dealer but so far I have had 3 dealers get told they are not moving base models for even fully loaded SFs. Apparently the base models are more desirable then loaded. I had to put money down on a base model that is still out at sea on its way in from S. Korea, just to secure it. Car seems to be very hot right now!

I am working to get a good deal on a Santa Fe 2.4 with Technology MSRP $35,250.
Best price so far is $31,097 plus $395 admin fee. Working the numbers with 4 dealers in Massachusetts. Any idea what a best price might be?

  • kaveh2kkaveh2k Member Posts: 2

Lowest I got so far is $33,700 out the door for Santa Fe 2.4 AWD with Technology in Virginia. Good deal?

  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

It's hard to say on OTD quotes since we don't know your fees and taxes.

One way to go is to drill down to the Make Model above, find your style of Santa Fe for your zip code, and make sure your quote meets or beats True Market Value. TMV is an average so you want to beat the average.

    Hi.

I just got an offer from one of local hyundai dealers, and i'm not sure if this is a good deal or not.
What i want is a santa fe sport AWD w/ popular package.

Here is the offer i got(it comes with a few accessories approximately 600 bucks).

    • Invoice - $27620
    • Trade in - $2500
    • rebate - $1750
    • tax - $1852.60
    • govt. fee - $87.50
    • OTD - $25385.10

Is this a good deal? or try looking for better deals?

You can appraise your trade-in here - otherwise your numbers seem good. Guess you should look at TMV and make sure the sales price meets or beats that with the incentive, but before the trade and fees.

No big honking doc fee eh? That's nice.

  • gatzogatzo Member Posts: 4

The document fee is 75 bucks, and it seems like there is no other fee on the paper. I guess that's acceptable.

After test driving several options, I had been getting serious about the CRV (I have read most of the 40+ pages on that forum and my head is spinning) but I am now starting to think about the Santa Fe sport fwd with premium package. I'm still on the fence. We will be financing through dealer or our own credit union, whichever has better deal, and we tend to keep cars a long time. Husband is a mechanic and we are shopping to replace a 2001 Cherokee that croaked; our other car is a 2007 accord.

I see on a previous post that Brian priced out the Santa Fe I'm interested in at 28,798, invoice with dest charge. How much below invoice is a good range in NY? Are there any incentives on top of agreed selling price now? Can you recommend any other dealers in NY other than the five NY/NJ dealers recommended in previous post. Thanks for your help!

We aren't showing any Hyundai incentives, at least not for the two zip codes I checked. Best check that link some next week - there may be some that we haven't gotten on the site yet since it's still a bit early in the month.

Purchased Santa Fe Sport 2.0T Fwd with technology package in MoCo Maryland (there is only one dealer). MSRP was $36,520. Purchased for $31,800 including freight, dealer fees and the buyer cash back. Additional cost was tax, title, tag. I tried shopping around DC area dealerships via email but the vehicle price was fairly consistent among them. In the end the deal was closed with the dealer who had the lowest fees and gave me 10% above Car Max for my trade.

Thanks for the report @smalbany and congrats on the new ride!

(My sister lives in NW VA and I visit her a couple of times a year, but I've never heard Montgomery County referred to a MoCo. Had to look that one up, just like the "Blieve, Hon" bumper sticker that new neighbors from your area had on their car. :) )

    Hi,
Can people comment on some recent prices paid for the 2014 Santa Fe (7 seater) GLS with Premium Package only? We live in Maryland and the best quote I am getting is for 33K OTD.
I was hoping to learn what others paid for their 7-seaters. Most of the queries I see here are for the Sport which is a little different as I understand.
    Thanks,

So we're about to pull the trigger on Wednesday (price was negotiated at the end of last month)

We are purchasing a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.4L FWD Premium package.

    Breakdown as follows:

    $27907.19 sale price
    28.00 etr
    499.00 doc
    1824.81 Ga Tax
    38.00 TTL
    - (1000) Rebate cash
    (400) college rebate
-Wanted to do $500 boost up, but found out that you had to have acct active for 30 days, so dealer added $500 to trade in value instead.

Total OTD price 25, 911 with trade in, not including trade in OTD price 28900

Includes stuff we didn't necessarily want like the mud guards, roof rack, cargo cover, carpet floor mats, carpet cargo cover, all weather mats.

-Dealer also has lifetime free hand car washes.
    -Included 3 oil changes
    -Included 12 car detailings
-Dealer doubles manufacturer drivetrain to 200k/20yr

Thoughts? Actually got an offer for OTD price of 28,275 from another dealer 2.5 hours away but without the small perks. I felt like the price difference was probably worth the perks and having a local dealer (the details, car washes, all weather mats, and doubled warranty were not at the lower priced out of town dealer)

Would appreciate any comments. Thanks very much for your time. This is after about 3 months of shopping. Was hoping October rebtaes would increase but no such luck.
  • bggarricbggarric Member Posts: 14
    @stever, @brian123, thoughts on above?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I forget what zip code I'm using today but TMV is coming in at $28,400 with the rack cross bars and the carpeted mats and the cargo cover. So your sales price for the car is good (and it looks like the dealer must have tons of mats lying around if they are throwing in the all weather ones too).

The doc fee is bit high. The freebies are nice but I don't think the double warranty is worth much of anything.

For the price difference that you've found, I'd stay local just for the convenience.

@stever,@brian123, do moderators have any comments on the post I made last week about the Santa Fe (7-seater) for 33,000 OTR? We live in Maryland.

@sreedevi4, sorry, didn't mean to ignore you last week.

I'm assuming you're shopping an AWD?

TMV for the GLS AWD with Premium Package for a 21201 zip code is coming in at $34,025 with destination of $875.

    And there's currently a $1,000 incentive, making TMV $33,025

That's without doc fees, taxes, etc. So the selling price for your GLS has to be less than that since your offer is $33k OTD. Your 6% sales tax will be ~1800 of that.

Looks good to me. Invoice is $34,239 with destination. Don't know if you can go any lower although if you shop your quote around, you might find an even better price. If you take a look at Fitzmall.com today and see how their posted numbers stack up, you're looking at $33,492 before taxes and fees.

The other thing to do is ask for a free Price Promise certificate here. I'm seeing a $30,679 number with that so one of those could save you money depending on what your taxes and fees are, and depending on whether it includes the Premium Package.

  • sreedevi4sreedevi4 Member Posts: 12
@stever, Thank you for the prompt response!
I am actually interested in the FWD not the AWD. I should have mentioned that in my original post. How would your assessment changed based on this new information?
I will also look into the FitzMall website that you mention.
    Thanks,
    Sree

FWD in Maryland? You must have a short flat driveway. My sister got stuck a few times a year in N. VA until she got a Subaru. :)

I'm getting TMV of $31,279 - that's including that same $1,000 incentive. So you need to take your quote of $33k and back out the taxes and fees to see how the actual selling price of the car compares to TMV.

Looks like Fitzmall has one en route for $33,492 so not a good price, and I don't think that one even has the Premium Package.
  • sreedevi4sreedevi4 Member Posts: 12
Thanks @stever. We don't have a driveway and MD rarely gets too heavy snow! :)

I will get the breakdown from the dealer.

I am seeing a TMV of 33,098 with for one with a Premium Package (that price includes the 1000 incentive).

If that is the case, then a price of 33K OTD which is including taxes and fees, might be a good deal...

I guess my hesitation is also that there might be a 2015 Santa Fe released soon (It looks like Hyundai released their 2015 Santa Fe Sport last week, so maybe the 7-seater Santa Fe 2015 model is not too far behind), which probably means the dealerships will be willing to negotiate more..?

Pricing question on a new 2014 Santa Fe Limited FWD w/Ultimate Package...

Interested in purchasing this vehicle that has been on the dealer's lot since August 2014. The MSRP is $39980 and they've priced it at $33902. OTD price is $34019 - w/6% tax, doc fee, TTL. They're not seeming to budge on that price. Is this a good deal? I just don't know how hard to push with it being last year's model, new but with 310 miles on it.

    Any help/suggestions are appreciated!
