Intake valve stuck open?
tidester, host
It runs fine now.
I am also curious about timing belt replacement and if anyone has done that maintenance on their RX? They used to say do it at 60, but I hear now you can go as long as 100K. Any experience out there?
Thanks and Happy New Year
ruski, looks like even I have heard more than I ever wanted to hear about engine flooding.
All, hope you don't mind a Highlander guy contributing to your discussion, because even if you do, I will continue to do so!!!
Okay?
Sorry, retract that, from my standpoint you're welcome here regardless.

First Drive: 2004 Lexus RX 330

At some point it'll get moved to SUVs or collapsed in this discussion. We're open to suggestions, but the RX330 seems to have some significant differences that would warrant keeping a separate board going.

I also agree with a comment made in the RX 330 forum that they should continue making this overseas and not bring it here in the US.
Time will tell.
I thought this link was pretty interesting about the RX330 and Japanese automakers in North America.

Problem is I don't want the nav or the sunroof.
He thinks special order might take until May.
The discussion of the two vehicles in one forum will be beneficial to current and potential new owners alike. Thanks!
Probably the best thing is to sit back and wait for the 330's to hit the showroom and see how the posts shake out.
Anyone concerned that the 330 is going to mostly be made in Canada beginning in September and not so many built in Japan after that?

A new model, built in a new plant, in another country, will be a challenge. Some bugs are bound to occur, and I'd rather not be driving one. Let somebody else be "first on the block". The new pricing may be an eye opener also.
I think I have too much time on my hands.
I think Lexus needs to be careful about building cars in Canada if they wish to preserve the Lexus appeal. When the Lexus LS 400 arrived in 1990, it sent BMW and Mercedes back to the drawing boards. It was a superior car, and not based on anything else. The origial Acura Legend was the same way. Now we have Consumer Reports magazine recommending the Highlander over the RX300. Lexus can't sell the car based on performance, so they are left with visual appeal and feel. The paint finish of the RX300 is fabulous. Take a look at the paint chips on the hood of any two year old Canadian built Toyota Solara, and you will see that the paint is inferior.
Lexus has to sell reliability, and yet they can't seem to fix the five speed autmatics in the 2002/2003 ES300's (see Edmunds ES300 board). So now they put the transmission in the RX330. Chuck Yaeger used to get paid to be a test pilot at Northrup. Are they going to pay RX330 owners to test the five speed automatics?

I'm very interested in the RX Hybrid especially with the promised performance and mileage gains. Oh, yeah, and it's nicer to nature, too!

i think the RX330 needs to separate itself if it wants more sales, because reliability alone is not going to do it.. maybe performance oriented SUV? it obviously doesnt want to cannabalize GX sales, so it wont be "roomier", but it can at least satisfy the SUV performance market the way the Toureg is attempting to do (equals X5 in every performance category, while keeping up with the GX in every off-road category)

Personally I think the RX330 will astound everyone with the increase in sales level due to it's much better "looks" appeal, it's TRUE AWD system and increased gas mileage due to the weight loss of the truly useless VC system.
mho :-)
