I never saw that post. Perhaps there is censorship on this board?

My suspicion is that it's against the "rules" to advertise or sell anything on this board , thus it was deleted.
I was also going to contact him just for info purposes, don't know about signing up until other avenues are exhausted first. If you would e-mail me the tel# for this lawyer if you have it. My e-mail address is in my profile. Make sure you reference edmunds in subject since I delete any e-mails from unknown sources as a rule because of those damn viruses........

Both companies (WG and NWIG) were established in 1984. I have read that the exact month and day is identical. Can someone please search this and post it here or email it to me? I do not know how.

I think there is more here than meets the eye.

How long has the BBB reliability report been 'under construction' ?

You people are wasting your time worrying about what the BBB says or does. Who do you think funds the BBB? The businesses that become "members." The only people who think the BBB is an objective source of information are the same people that think The Welcome Wagon is just nice folks saying hi to the new neighbors.

    You missed my point.

My comment had to do with how many entities are concealing info from consumers who may search for complaints prior to doing business with a company.

Keith Blake, head of the corporate recovery department of the accounting firm
KPMG in the Caymans, which is acting as a kind of trustee, was asked where
consumers rank in the list of creditors. "There has been no final determination
on that," he told the World-Herald. "But the current thinking is this: The end
consumer, the person who bought the vehicle service contract, purchased that
from either a dealer or an agent or a marketing company. The end user did not
buy the contract from National Warranty. In terms of National Warranty's
liabilities, the current thinking is there is no direct liability to the holder of
these contracts. If someone has a vehicle service contract their first port of
call really should be the dealer who sold it to them, or the agent who sold
    it to them."

I also filed a complaint on WebAssured tonight. I'm not really expecting resolution (refund) but it helps to vent & hopefully alert others of the fraudulent actions of Warranty Gold.

Just found out about this whole thing yesterday from an email from WG. Nice. This thing has been going on for months and I find out about it yesterday? I can't believe that someone doesn't sue for false advertising. WG is still saying on their website that they have money in 'reserves' and that everyone is protected in case something happens. It's the only reason I eventually went with the company. Nice.

I bought my warranty gold contract back in April 2003 and have paid for it on an installment plan, $230 per month. I actually only have 1 more payment due in October. I already called my credit card company and disputed the last 4 charges (the maximum they were willing) back to June 20. At least if I succeed with that I'll get back $980 plus the $230 I haven't yet paid.

My question is how do you think this affects my rights to future refunds. Lets just say that after all is said and done, NWIG has some money to pay back as refunds. Will I have a partial policy and still be able to get refunds? I talked to Warranty Gold and they said (of course!) I should pay the last payment otherwise I will be throwing away my rights to any refund. Is this true or complete bull?

I chose not to "cancel" my policy with Warranty Gold since I wouldn't get any pro-rated money back anyway. It would only reduce my claim with them to the pro-rated amount rather than the whole amount (whatever that may be).

But if I dispute the last 5 charges, I will have paid $1790 for a $2940 policy. Shouldn't I still be due any refunds that may become available regardless of whether or not I completed paying for the policy??

I can't believe Warranty Gold told me I'd be throwing away my rights and I should put more good money after bad.

Warranty Gold is looking out for no one but themselves and still decieving customers. They offered to sell me a new policy since it's with a new insurer, but yet won't honor the two I bought in October & December of last year, now that would be stupid. The saying "screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me" comes into play here. Don't pay them another dime, get whatever money back you can, dispute the charges with your CC company. What WG has done is commit fraud plain and simple. File a complaint thru Web Assured (scroll back for the link)& with state attorney generals office, then cross your fingers. Your only one of 65000 + customers that got shafted by this low life company! All because of a poor business decision on their part (reserve account thru NWIG)not yours. If WG had any hair on their butts they would role over all the old policies to their new insurer & do the right thing for their customers, but don't hold your breath waiting!

It's a gamble put they (WG) are probably right. You can make the last payment and wait it out legally in the hope you can get more back. But is it really worth it? Personally, I'd continue the dispute, get any money back, and cut my losses. Ask your credit card company if it makes a difference in the dispute that you purchased a warranty. According to some of the previous posts, some company's have rules regarding such a purchase that could work to your advantage. Like I said, it's a gamble but I'd play it safe and take the money and run. Why do WG any favors since they don't give a damn about you?

Is there anyone here from MN that has been taken by this fiasco. If you are, please contact the Minnesota Attorney Generals office and local TV stations or newspapers. If enough of us complain something might get done about this.

    appelm1,

Take your money and RUN! Your timing is perfect -back to 6/20. You may be the most fortunate of most of us posting here.

Bottom line is these contracts are worthless. WG will not transfer to new administrator to cover claims. Now it is a matter of partial reimbursement of our premiums and outstanding claims, which probably won't happen!

Their pro-ration refund policy reverts to the initial date/mile as a NEW car, not the life of the contract. So a 7 yr/70,000 mile contract of 3 yrs. coverage is prorated over 7 yrs, understand?

You aren't forfeiting any windfall of any amount by accepting your CC chargeback. You would receive less than that (if anything) from WG, even if you filed for a refund and they paid you.

In response to garnes, post #940, I think. I followed your directions and assembled all the documentation. I sent it all to my Credit Card Co., Chase Freedom Platinum. Within about a week, they refunded everything and canceled future payments. I also sent in my cancellation form to WG. They cancelled my contract, though I had to do a little footwork to check / encourage them. Thanks 'garnes' for your help and advice. Thanks Chase - I will never cancel that card, regardless. WG stinks!
  • quigonjohnquigonjohn Member Posts: 77
You say WG cancelled your contract, did you get your refund? If so, had you joined after 6/6/03, in other words, NWIG was NOT your adminsitrator?

I live in the south metro area of St.Paul and I had no problems getting a full refund from my credit card company. See posts 930, 933, 960 and 989 for the full report.

Purchased my useless Diamond warranty in 2000 and Paid in full same day I purchased the Ford SUV. Like many of you I just found out the contract isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Well because of hard times I was forced to down size and trade the truck for a least expensive vehicle, I wouldn't even had known about this fiasco if it wasn't for trading it in. Anyone know if I have any chance on getting a pro rated refund from Warranty Gold?

I JUST RECEIVED AN E-MAIL YESTERDAY, OCTOBER 2ND,FROM WARRANTY GOLD,ABOUT THERE INSURER BECOMING INSOLVEMENT.WHEN DID THIS ALL HAPPEN.I PURCHASED MY WARRANTY IN MAY OF 2003 FOR A NEW VEHICLE. MY AVALANCH IS COVERED BY GM FOR 3 YEARS AND THEN THE WARRANTY WILL TAKE EFFECT.I PAID FOR IT USING MY CREDIT CARD AND MAKING MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS. I AM STILL MAKING THE PAYMENTS .WHAT ARE MOST PEOPLE DOING ABOUT THIS. ANY RECOMONDATIONS? HOW CAN I GET A COPY OF ANY PAPERWORK I NEED TO POSSIBLY SEND TO MY CREDIT CARD CO. BEING A POLICE OFFICER I DO KNOW IT IS ILLEGAL TO TAKE MONEY ONCE YOU KNOW YOU CAN NOT DELIVER THE PRODUCT. FOR THIS WE ALL SHOULD CONTACT OUR STATES ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE.
  • quigonjohnquigonjohn Member Posts: 77
For one this, DON'T make anymore payments, that'd just be throwing good money after bad. Contact them and tell them you are cancelling. Then write them to demand a refund. When you get their lame response, write your CC company and dispute the charges due to WG failing to provide the agreed upon service, (see other posts for more details). File a complaint with Texas Attorney General, and file a complaint online at RipoffReport.com and WebAssured.com.

    Welcome to the fray!

The main complaint, outside of the fact that this company dumped on its 65,000 existing customers under the guise of NWIC's bankruptcy, is the fact that WG continues to take money for worthless policies. You, as an officer of the law, do not need an explanation of fraud.

Welcome to the Legion of the Warranty Gold Screwed.

Take your money now! Cut your losses. Companies don't go into liquidation because they have excess cash laying around. They have nothing left! And if they do have a nickel on the dollar the laywers will get that, not you. Call your credit card company now! Cancel your policy and take whatever you can get. Warranty Gold just sent me a very lame letter about how they are trying to look out for their customers. When did they notify you that your warranty was worthless? Probally never. I found out when I submitted a claim. They were good enough to keep deducting the last 2 payments after June 6th. Do you really think they sent that money to NWIC? My guess is that Warranty Gold will also collapse shortly.
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
This all started around June 20, 2003. Warranty Gold WILL however sell you a new policy under their new insurer but the old policy is best used in the port-a-potti if you get my drift.

I have been receiving e-mails from Warranty Gold. Unfortunately, they have alot of "IF's" and "When's" that really don't say anything concrete. Has anyone heard anything definitive from Warranty Gold that when they get the money from NWIG that we will get refunds?

Someone posted awhile back that Warranty Gold only sent money to NWIG for claims and not the premiums. It was stated that Warranty Gold controlled the funds for the premiums and that those funds were not at NWIG?? Could whoever posted this comment please clarify this and where they got this information.

    Thanks.

Has anyone been able to get Citibank MasterCard to refund their purchase from Warranty Gold? If you did, were you still paying on the warranty or was it already fully paid?

Do you know if CitiBank MasterCard has the same 60 day or 120 day wording for a warranty like VISA? This means I would have 60 or 120 days after the warranty ended to claim a refund thru my credit card company.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I to along with all the rest you are a victim in this unfortunate event. guess we call it WG SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT LOL.. any ways I been in contact with a WG rep . She is very nondiscript and dodges questions. she made a comment about two possible new administrators that are willing to take over the old contracts. see messages below:

Thank you again for your reply and addressing my concerns!

I have a few more questions as follows:

You mentioned two new administrators willing to take over your contracts that were written prior to June, 6 2003. What two companies is Warranty Gold considering for taking over these contracts? I was advised on a recent phone call to your customer service center that First Automotive Insurance Company was your new Administrator and that all contracts written prior to June 6th like mine would be taken over by this company? Was this inaccurate information?

"Okay, 1st Automotive will not be able to take on all the contracts that were sold prior to June 6 2003. It would just overwhelm them. Honestly all we know is that there are two administrators that want to take on the job of honoring those contracts, but we do not know their names and where they are established."

    sounds very contradicting !
  • angelloveangellove Member Posts: 14
I just received a solicitation e-mail from Warranty Gold stating that their contracts are now reinsured by an A+ carrier!! Does anyone have a clue what they are talking about? I thought they were currently writing through warranties through another Risk Retention Group (First Automotive)? Thanks.

Why would any new administrator take over a contract without getting paid. Your contracts money went South.........and there is nothing to give the new guys.
  • rainman168rainman168 Member Posts: 5
I purchased my WG contract last December and they have not received my last payment yet. After reading through the posts here, it sounds like cancelling my WG contract and getting a portion of my money back will be futile. I guess I'll try to savage my last payment and try to dispute the claim from Discover. Has anybody had any luck with their credit card company? What do I need to tell the customer service rep? Thanks in advance.
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
I also bought two contracts last year (one in Sept & the other in Dec.) with my Discover Card but have yet to file the dispute. DC Rep stated they have a 180 limit for disputing charges, so not sure if I'll get anywhere with them. I am requesting thru WebAssured as my mediator to have WG role my old policies over to new administrator, taking into account 6/20/03 date when they stopped honoring the old contracts or refunding my money.
    To be continued.........

I called the insurance commissioner and was told that WG is based in The Cayman Islands and they are not regulated by any state. I was advised to cancel my contract with 4 payments remaining. I plan to do so and contact my bank to prevent those 4 future payments. This company is scamming big time. Commissioner said don't plan on getting a prorated refund. Companies like this don't have to give money back. Once this news gets around enough they may be forced to bail on new clients since 6/7/03 too. Count your losses and move on. But always check with your commissioner in the future. I plan to.

Has anyone tried aawarranty.com? It looks like they do not use RRG insurance companies. Instead it sounds like they use a regular insurance company whose losses would be backed by the state if they went insolvent, so customers would not lose their money. Best of all if I go with these guys, they are in Minnesota so I could always go to small claims court locally or show up personally at their office with about 1 hour drive time to get there. I learned my lesson with WG, no more policies backed by an RRG company.
I wonder if aawarranty.com would give us all a good group rate if we signed up knowing that we got burned by WG? Anyway before I do sign up, I am going to check out this company and owner with local Minnesota agencies to see if there is any dirt on them before I ever fork over my money.

Called WG yesterday (what did I have to lose) and told them I sold the vehicle I currently had a diamond policy on and wanted a pro-rated cancellation refund. Told me they were sending forms for me to fill out and after litigations were resolved I would be receiving a refund of $711.00. Yeah right!

Hi fimo_s. This particular discussion was created for consumers to talk about Warranty Gold. If you have extended warranty questions that are not specifically about this company, please post them in one of the other extended warranty discussions that appear on this message board or feel free to create a new discussion. Having said this I will post some quick advice for you here. I always suggest to consumers that they purchase the official extended warranty that is sold by their vehicle's manufacturer. Manufacturers are much more likely to stand behind their extended warranties, and products, than some random third party that has no incentive to retain you as a loyal customer. You can purchase a Volvo "Stated Component Plan" or a Volvo "TotalCare Plan" from any Volvo dealer that you choose, not just the one that you purchased your vehicle from or the one that you plan on using for service. Shop around with a couple of Volvo dealers and negotiate an attractive price on a Volvo warranty. You can do so in person, over the telephone, or even via e-mail. Again, please post any future questions on that do no pertain specifically to Warranty Gold in a different discussion. Thanks.

See my post in this thread, post number 682. I went with AA Warranty and did some research on them.

And for even more info see my post number 6 in this thread:

    "anyone know about warranty wizard?"
  • illini4illini4 Member Posts: 140
The credit card refund scheme is in my opinion a house of cards. You may get a temporary credit until the credit card company gets the facts, but once they understand the situation they aren't going to absorb your or Warranty Gold's losses.
  • appelm1appelm1 Member Posts: 3
I don't think CC companies absorb the loss, at least not all the time. They will chargeback Warranty Gold for the fees. Since WarrantyGold is still in business and not insolvent, they will have to give back the money if they want to keep accepting credit cards. If WarrantyGold was bankrupt, then that would be a different story.

Does anyone know how to contact 60 minutes or some show like it? This sounds like a great story. I too bought a WG contract on my 99 Dodge truck only to find out right when it is supposed to take over that it is no longer good. I recieved my notice from them dated 0ct 2 2003.
  • slickwilliedjslickwilliedj Member Posts: 252
wg's new underwriter for all contracts sold after Jun,2003 is First Automotive Inusrance Company.
  • slickwilliedjslickwilliedj Member Posts: 252
I just received a email from a wg rep which stated they are talking to two potential new adminstrators to take over the old contracts but she doesnot know there names???

Is this a sign of hope? I dunno but maybe a move in the right direction. For now were all playing the waiting game!
  • rainman168rainman168 Member Posts: 5
I too have a WG contract prior to June. How come WG is emailing other folks informing them that they are talking to two potential new administrators? Shouldn't WG be informing everybody? Unless WG has money to give to the new administrators, why would a company do it? Just my 2 cents worth.
  • fimo_sfimo_s Member Posts: 14
Thank you quigonjohn for recommending AA Warranty. It sounds as it is a good co. to deal with. But, after knowing what happened with Warranty Gold, I still unsure what to do.
Thank you again for your input.
