Slackers. You are now an official Zaino convert! I bet it looks great on the red car. It makes my black SC430 look like a mirror. We took some photos of the car a few weeks ago and my reflection was caught in the picture by accident. You could see there was a 1" circular spot on my jeans where the condensation from my drink had dropped on me. That's how much that car shines. By the way, the more coats, the more shine, and the good smelling car wash brings the shine right back. I think I'll Zaino it again today. It takes no time on the SC, the Sequoia is an all day job though even with the easy Zaino products.
I had the Classic Soft Trim aftermarket leather put into my Sequoia about two months ago. I did quite a bit of research and the leather they sell is every bit as good as Toyota factory leather. They also offer the same warranty Toyota does on their leather. I highly recommend it!
Unless you want heated seats, retracting side view mirrors and different alloy wheels save yourself over $3,000 and get the SR5 with aftermarket leather...
If you are going for aftermarket leather, you may want to look into aftermarket headed seat kits as well -- shouldn't add all that much to the price. The d-i-y kits are under $200 iirc. Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
Recently took delivery of my Sequoia SR5 and have a question about the floor mats. In my 1995 Tacoma they have Tacoma embroidered on the mats but the Sequoia floormats do not have what type vehicle it is embroidered on them. Was just curious as to whether or not this is the norm especially since the floormats with the doorsill package cost $272.
I picked up our new Sequoia yesterday and I had some maintenance questions for the mechanical folks out there. Are most people going to change the rear differential fluid every 5000 miles? If so, what type of oil should be used and how much of it is needed for the change? I have heard of drive shafts and universal joints but what do they mean by propeller shaft? Also where is the propeller shaft bolt located?
Classic Soft Trim leather includes the door panels but not the steering wheel. If you really want a leather steering wheel, order a Wheelskins brand (approx. $30-$35) size AXX for the Sequoia. It takes about 1 hour to properly stitch the steering wheel cover on but it looks and feels 100 times better than the plastic.
Are ALL types of Sequoias supposed to have "sequoia" on ALL the mats???? I just have it on my two large rear cargo mats...not on the other 4 foot mats. Is this right????????
Have a 2002 sequioa limited; picked up last november. Noticed some oxidation around the trailer hitch today and when I looked at the undercarriage, noticed spots of oxidation/rust on other areas.
Any other similiar findings? I live up in Mass but have been religious with undercarriage washes after snowstorms to remove salt and grime.
I change my own oil and I do not remove the skid plate. I looked at it and it looked like way to much work. What I do is place about 3-4 paper towles below the filter when I remove it. I do get some oil on the pan but I wipe it off with another paper towel. It is a rather difficult position to get to but since the vehicle is so high off the ground it makes it a little easier. I am considering making a piece of cardboard that will slip on the skid plate when I change oil this will prevent any spilling on the plate. I have 30,000 miles on my '01 limited and have done oil changes every 3K miles...
Sure, I remove the skidplate. It's only five screws but a bit heavy and cumbersome to manuever. I kind of like the idea of using a piece of cardboard next time too. Everything is incredibly easy to get to.
I'm not sure if this is old news! I was at my dealer yesterday and they had a sign by their parts department that the V8 TRD supercharger for the Sequoia, Tundra, Land Cruiser and LX470 is available for 5k. It's 100 HP and 110 ft/lbs increase the sign says. Anyone had this done yet! Let us know!
I just paid $37K for a used 02 Limited with Sunroof, side air bags, wood dash, and spoiler. It has 13K miles. The 02 Expeditions are much cheaper. Did I overpay?
If that was a 4WD, you got a good deal. Semantics is correct that a new 2WD can be had for close to that, but not a 4WD. If it is what you wanted, you got a good deal.
Does anybody recommend any heavy duty floor mats that custom fit all three rows? Weather Tech only has them for the front and two individual for the second row. I want one long one for the second row and one for the third row too.
Anybody get some slight fllor vibrations when the engine is at 1500-2000 rpm? Most noticeable when running bet 30-40 mph and engine at top gear at 1500-2000 rpm.
Yup, but only when the engine is running. But seriously, if it bugs you, turn off the overdrive and all will be smooth and silent again. You must have mighty smooth roads where you come from -- around here the low bidder always wins and it's hard to tell the "new" roads from the old.
I got the gps system from pharos that hooks up to my Ipaq it cost me $225 last year . I use it all the time it works better than my brothers which came from the factory in his MDX. The only negative is that you need to load maps for the area you are going to be in but I added a 256mb cf card and i can get the whole north east . not that I need it . When I go on vaction I just upload the maps for that area. They have a little optional a/c vent mount the clips right on and hold the unit with a magnet. I had the Ipaq already so this was a great way to go . I can use it in any car since everything is so small and it gives voice prompts as well. And your not stuck with something that only does one thing..The website is pharosgps.com it works with the palm as well
I own a 2002 LTD 4X4 and get the exact same vibrations at 40-45mph. I have noticed many sequoia owners complaining about this so I assumed that it was a common occurrence.
I am considering replacing my tires with Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires. I am wondering if anyone out there has any experience with these particular tires or Michelin in general? I own a Sequoia and I am most interested in a smooth, quite ride. Thanks in advance. Scott
I've had my 2001 SR5 4WD for a year and a half. Extremely good experience overall, but a little bit of getting used to its personality. The "growl" at moderately low speeds is due to the the tread design of the tires, according to my Toyota service writer. This was also discussed over on the old Tundra forum [not Edmunds, but I forget the url].
I had Michelin LTX M/S on my previous SUV. Excellent tires, good overall handling wet and dry, and pretty quiet too. Only thing is that they come in white raised letters, unless you manage to find an xtra load version.
Michelin recently came out with pilot LTX, more performance and street/highway oriented than offroading/trail. Depending on your needs, this may be a better choice.
I don't think it's a tire tread issue since it consistently comes up at a particular engine speed range regarding of vehicle speed. May be caused by resonance to a certain component/mounting, engine or frame.
I don't know the specific answer to your question but I do know (as spr0m already pointed out here) that GPS systems are available for Palm PDAs and Pocket PCs (like the IPAQ from HP/Compaq). Presumably, the same technology is available for laptops.
These seem more practical to me than using a laptop.
I saw gregfocker paid $900 for 7/100 with no deductible. Has anybody done better? Who has the best prices? Email me if you don't want to post. Also, has anybody done the prepaid maintenance plans?
Thanks for the information. I'm not up on all the computer related products. Kids in the third row of seats, second row folded down with a laptop playing a movie for the third row works fine. You're right, it would be a bit bulky for a navigation system.
In the event of an accident, that laptop will become a projectile capable of killing you or your children. Also, bungy cords and such just aren't adequate.
Any one interested in selling their wheels? Scott have you gotten rid of yours yet. If not I'm very interested. Seen your post a couple weeks ago but have been on vacation. The Sequoia did great SR5 rocks!!
Years ago I worked at an ornamental iron shop and still play with the welder and grinder. I made a bracket that hooks onto the seat. I had it chromed and it locks onto the seat and the lap top very securly. Thanks for the concern, there is a lot of great advice on this board!
I have done a lot of research regarding the Michellin Cross Terrains...have not seen anything bad about them. Seem like an excellent tire. If you go to Michelin's web site, the review of that tire is actually better than ltx. However, I have read many posts regarding the cross terrains and snow that say if you want good traction for snow, it is still best to get dedicated snow tires.
Just returned from our first long (4000km or 2500 mile) trip. Here are my observations from the extended voyage in our Sequoia. Firstly it is very quiet (except for wind noise). Secondly it had ample power for most of our driving needs. It was completely loaded with 4 kids and 2 adults plus loads of luggage. Our average fuel economy was between 19 and 20 mpg (imperial gallons = approx 16.5 to 17 USmpg) Most of our travelling was at about 70 mph. Enough passing power in almost all situations except when slowed to a crawl behind traffic on a long hill. My complaints would be limited to 2. The first is that the there is TOO much suspension "shudder" when going over frost heaves and highway expansion joints. My 4-Runner takes these better than the Sequoia. The second is that sometimes on steep hills when in cruise control the engine revs up to almost redline order to maintain the set speed; but this is only for short periods of time. All in all we found the vehicle fit our family travelling needs very well. I am very much looking forward to any results from people that have installed the new TRD supercharger on their vehicle; whether it be a Sequoia, LC, Tundra or LX470. The 4.7L has enough power for most applications but another 100+ HP and 120+lb/ft of Torque surely could not hurt. I am especially interested in whether or not there is a significant whine from the SC, if it changes the smooth characteristics of the engine, and whether or not there is a substantial impact of gas mileage. I guess the use of premium fuel is a given. Any info would be most appeciated!
I have had Michellin Cross Terrains on my Pearl Red Sequoia for 6 months. Worked great in alln weather, including snow. They are not designed for deep mud or deep snow, but great for light snow on the road. In the rain, they can't be beat.
By the way, they are rated for 130mph...... No I have not tried them at that speed...
OK.... My 2001 now has almost 50,000 miles on it with no mechanical problems.....
But, My daughter, driving her 92 Honda Accord, drove into the back of the Sequoia at a stop light in the rain...... Cops thought it was funny that I owned both cars in the accident, yea.... ha ha.....
Sequoia 1 Honda 0
Her car totaled. Sequoia, only big cuts to the plastic of the bumper. Didn't even harm the hitch.
Any ideas as to where (other than the dealer) I could look to pick up a new rear bumper?
I have taken such good care of the Sequoia, oil change every 3k, lots of suds and wax, etc... I would hate to leave the rear looking this bad.
Only alternative is bumper stickers I guess...... lots of 'em.
I was at a dealership in the LA-area this past week and saw several DVD-based entertainment system installed in some of the Sequoia's on the lot. The system came with 2 wireless headphones and a remote control. The DVD player (w/TV tuner), auxillary game ports (3), and an 8" flip screen are all roof-mounted. The antenna neatly fits inside top of the windshield of the truck. The system also has its own dome light replacing the factory one. The whole system is made by Audiovox. The easiest install is for Seq's with the sunroof, since this will easily replace the dome light. Those without sunroof and with the 5 sunshade holders will require cutting the fifth sunshade holder part out to mount the system.
Retail price I saw on the cars was $2995. But I was able to get (in writing) a price of $2195 + tax, but includes installation. The system looked and felt great. The sound can be channeled through the factory JBL or base audio system. I tested it out and it was great. Well worth the price, IMO.
But, just coincidentally, our local Fry's Electronics store has a sale on a 6.4" (active matrix) Clarion flip screen, and a Blaukpunkt DVD/MP3 player combo at retail price of $349. This is a 50% discount from the costs of these two together - flip screen ($399) and DVD/MP3 player ($299). The only trouble is they cannot install it in my truck because they would have to mount it too close to the center of the second row seat and not a good viewing angle( this is bcos of the 5 sunshade holders). I am thinking of buying the system and having an outside shop do the install for me.
Any thoughts on if this is a good idea or not ?
Hope this helps anyone looking for such system for their kids.
