    OK gang, any serious answers about the purpose of that little square piece of plastic above the window on the driver's side?? I've got to admit, my favorite response is that it is for talking to when frustrated.

    I always assumed it was the unused passenger grab handle mount. This would be needed if they built a right hand drive Sequoia??? If so, those owners are wondering what that same little square on the right side is.

    The other day when we were backing up a hill and turning the wheel, we experienced a terrible noise from the front of the vehicle. The next two days I had a similar noise when turning right (at the same corner). These are the only times I have heard this noise (I have 1,400 miles on my Sequoia). I just took it in to have it looked at and they are saying that the noise is caused when VSC kicks in. It sounds like a grinding noise. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, when VSC kicks in, does your dashboard tell you? Thanks,

    Yes, it sounds quite loud and grinding. Also, there is a figure of a car with squigly lines behind it on the dash that lights up momemtarily. It all happens rather quick and you might not of noticed.

    Sounds like the ActiveTrac to me. Did your wheels slip? It sounds like your brakes are activating because of wheel slippage and not from oversteer or understeer. Does that sound right cliffy?

    Does anyone know the size of the factory installed DVD screen on the 2003 Sequoia?

    DVD is a EY option. Now, does this option includes wireless headsets along with it OR does it require a separate WH (Wireless Headset) option along with EY option.

    Reason for this question is that my dealer's manifesto sheet shows that he is getting a Limited with DVD on it (EY option is listed). However, there are no WH option. So, I am wondering whether wireless headsets come with it or not.
    If anyone knows please let me know.

    The wireless headset came with it. The system is from CE (China Electronics) and the screen is a 7" diagonal. The only complaint I had with this system was the wireless headphones. They are made to fit an adults head. They have a microswitch in them that engages when the headphones are stretched far enough to go over an adults head. My children's heads are not big enough to engage the switch. The Infiniti service department refuses to tear open the headset to fix it or remove the switch so I did it myself. They say they can repair it because it is a CE system, not theirs. It was very easy to take the switch out and solder the wire back in. Now they work fine but I have to make sure the kids turn them off after using them each time or they wear the batteries down. Watch out for this if the Sequoia has the same system.

    With this being a relatively new option, I will say that I do not know this with absolute certainty. However, from the vehicles that we have seen with the rear seat audio, the wireless headphones are not included. So my guess would be that unless you have the "WH" option, which by the way is a PPO option so the dealer can specify it for you, it is not included. However from what I have seen, the wireless headphones that you get at any home entertainment store will work as well. If I find out conclusively, I will make sure to post here for you, however.

    In your vehicle, does the DVD (when flipped down) block the view of the rear-view mirror?

    If it is, then, this can be a big problem, because I might find it very uncomfortable & unsafe to drive without the view of the rear-view mirror .

    Please let me know whether it blocks the view.

    However, I can still see cars behind me in the rearview mirror. It is a small screen and ends up in the center of the mirror's view.

    I've always found your posts to be informative, just as the one above with the TSB's. However, I tried to find these on the NHTSA site but couldn't. Can you tell me where you got this info?

    I have the bass problem in my '02 that I purchased 4 weeks ago, and before I approach the dealer I'd like to be as informed as possible. And if need be, as a last resort, provide the dealer with the TSB.

    Your assistance will be much appreciated.

    I have a new 2003 SR5, 600 miles. I was looking under it the other day, planning for the 1st oil change in the future. Should I remove the skidplate to change the oil and filter?? If so, I think it is held in place by 5 screws, am I right??

    The Sequoia is still the highest rated Full Size SUV in the test.

    I can only summize that handling and ride comfort are subjective judgements and relative. Compared to a sedan, the Sequoia's handling could certainly be judged to be "gainly" and ride "not very comfortable". Personally, I find the Sequoia to handle VERY crisply and easy to drive. I also feel that the ride is exceptional.....for a large SUV with a solid rear axle.

    Interesting that you are posting here. I just read your two posts on the Denali forum about your transmission blowing up. Whoops, not the transmission but the $2800 drive shaft. Sounds like you have bigger problems than a person's opinion that the ride is not comfortable in the Sequoia.

    Also, regarding the Pilot- it may be full size but not a truck SUV like the Sequoia, Yukon etc. It has 3500 lb. tow rating, and a version of all wheel drive. Great vehicle but different category.

    I traded my 01 Pathfinder for a 02 Sequoia. The Pathfinder was always rated highly for its ride. Buy, the Sequoia is much better controlled and damped. For a full-size SUV it is excellent.

    I will be trading my 2001 Pathfinder LE for a SR5 as soon as it arrives.......the Pathfinder is a nice truck, just too small....Toyota should include somethings the Pathfinder has......heated seats(not available in the SR5), memory seats and navigation....after all the Sequoia is $10,000 more!     Your Denali is a FULL SIZE SUV. The Sequoia is a FULL SIZE SUV. The Honda Pilot is not. For some reason CR choose to mix and match sizes in that comparison. BTW - Did your 2002 Denali really drop it's drive shaft and puke transmission fluid all over the highway with less than 4000 miles on it!?!?!? Wow! Good thing you have OnStar!

    It never ceases to amaze me that these guys will post about the nightmares that they have with their GM products and then come over to this board and tell us that the Sequoia isn't a good truck. Notice that csi doesn't mention what Consumer Reports said about the GM SUVs.

    He has a much nicer ride in his Denali than the Sequoia, of course it's sitting in the driveway, oops excuse me, it didn't make it back to his driveway!

    The Pilot I am sure is an excellent SUV, for its class. It is NOT in the same class as the Sequoia. I have had a 99 Ford Explorer and a 00 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    The Explorer rode like a truck. The Jeep was GREAT for riding quality, acceleration, and off roading. If Jeep made a full size SUV, I would have bought that.

    Rather, I purchased the Sequoia for its size, and overall quality. I think this is an outstanding truck. I cant ask for much else!!

    I'm extremely flattered you all have made me the center of your universe.

    By the way, it was the front axle that failed. Better than having the engine sludge up and having the manufacture denying responsibilty.

    The Highlander was associated with gel/sludge (along with the Sienna and Avalon, etc.), but not the Sequoia. link (USAToday)

    I would recommend removing the skid plate. It only takes a couple of minutes vs 30 minutes of cleaning up the oil that spills all over the plate and floor.

    I'm in Sequoia heaven now. Traded in my '01Limited, just a year old with 16K miles for an '03 Limited in that Phantom Gray color. If anyone ever doubted trade in value on these works of art, I got $36K in trade, which in Washington State is the equivalent of $39K with the tax benefit. My '01 was perfect and if I couldn't get that bottom line on the trade, I wouldn't have considered it. With most of the bugs worked out from it's introductory year, this '03 is something else. The 17" wheels are a significant improvement in the appearance IMO. The stereo is an upgrade, not just with the correct amplification, but the unit itself is a new design, actually changing the dimensions of that center radio insert area (I discovered that when I toyed with a molded dash trim kit over that area, and woodtrim.com, my favorite wood-trim provider, verified this and will let me know when the '03 kits are available sometime next month). The vehicle had the gold emblem package, which I would not have ordered, but I am so glad it did. Looks great with the Phantom Gray color. Self dimming rear-view mirror, steering wheel stereo controls are new bonuses as well. All this and a two model-year upgrade for 1K over invoice and a great trade in.
    I better keep this one for a while !

    Also, what was the purchase price of the new 03? What was the MSRP of this 03?

    I am shopping for one, and would like to know what you paid & MSRP on that.

    Can anyone explain why in the Los Angeles area the 2003 Limited Sequoia's are not coming equiped with the day time running lights? Just about all the 2002 Limited did!

    cliffy1... got an answer to this one? Did the managers have a pow-wow to set what or how the area was going to be ordering these?

    DRL's are usually an option. I don't believe they are standard equipment, but maybe in CA? My 02 came with them and the first thing I did was disable them, I think they're annoying.

    gkatz1, DRL is an option. Even in LA. Why did you disable them. You would just get in the truck and go. It prob should never annoy you as the drive should never see it. Cheap safety device as I see it.

    If interested, the one Toyota is putting in the '03 is sweet. Takes up a little room in the center compartment, but that is big anyway. Should be a clean install as it doesn't look any different from a '01 to a '03

    I believe that the DVD system installed in the 2003 Sequoia is nothing more than a Port Installed Option of a rebadged AudioVox VOD806. An acquiantance of mine just had one installed in his Sequoia at Circuit City for $1450.00 installed! Granted, that was a negotiated price. Another option is to swap the 2nd row headrest with the front and install 7" Widescreens with a DVD unit in the center console. You can see pictures of my self installed system at:

    Your doing a good job of defending our ride pschreck! All I ever find over there is ignorant owners of one of those "Off Brands" constantly trying to justify there poor purchase decision by stating false information about the Sequioa. This time it's misinformation about the 4WD system. Occasionally, one of them will wander into our Sequoia forum and claim to be the center (splinter!) of our universe while his Denali sits in the repair shop puking transmission fluid. :^)

    Autospies.com reports that the 2004 sequoia will be refreshened. Interior improvements will include a navigation system option. Does anyone know when the new model year sequoias come out -- i.e. what's the most probable release month next year for the '04 model?

    It would be this time next year. They start showing up in late October. Check out the dealers right now, just getting the 2003's and you can still find 2002's sitting on the lot.

    My new Sequoia seems to have 3 lines that are not working on the rear defroster. I took it to the Toyota dealership and they took a look, today when I called the service department back (since they did not call me back like they said they would yesterday) and they told me that the service dept manager had determined that the lines were cut and it wouldn't be covered under warranty.
    The problem is I believe that I received the vehicle in that condition and just noticed it now b/c the weather is cold and I have just started using the defroster. I have called the service line at Toyota and have started an "investigation" what ever that means, but I am wondering what else to do, any suggestions?
