The two closest libraries to me both have Alldata on line as part of their reference materials. They found it was more convenient than "shelving" all the books. I live in Suffolk County NY, maybe your library has the same?
As for the TSB, how about going to CarTalk and registering your Sequoia and they will e-mail you the TSB's. Thats what I remember....Also does anyone know of aftermarket company that you can use your trailer hitch to attach a brake light into? I called my dealer and they are not aware of toyota offering one. Thanks in Advance
You can get a trailer hitch brake light at just about ANY place that sells trailer supplies. I think Walmart might even have them or home depot. It slides into the 2" receiver and takes power off of the "flat four" plug.
I just had my '01 Sequoia in for service (oil change, rotate tires, etc.). It has 26K miles. This is the second time the dealer tried to talk me into a fuel injector cleaning at a cost of $109. I never heard of such a thing and it sounds totally bogus to me (especially since I overhead them recommending the same service to at least 4 other people while I was there, including telephone conversations). However, I know absolutely nothing about engines and wonder if anyone can enlighten me. By the way, they also recommended the transmission service (at $149.00) which I also declined. It is my experience that injectors very rarley need cleaning as the fuels today contain detergents to keep them clean. 26K seems way too early to be talking about transmission servicing. Transmissions are usually serviced around 60K (fluid & flter). Sounds like your dealer is being a little overly ambitious.

Another Question We have been having more problems with the Plastic on the interior....even noticed nicks on the drivers door pull....thinking of asking to show/speak with regional rep... The dealer GM told me "its because of the percentage of US products the US Gov requires Toyota to buy from. And the US plastic is inferior" I told him that sounds like a bunch of bull....any thoughts...????? thanks

To the person who has AC problems. I own a 2001 model. I had the same problem you are having the first time around. The compressor seized and blew metal shavings in my system. After waiting for parts for 3 plus weeks, when they arrived they found out the metal shavings fouled my system and they ordered more parts. Long story short, 1 month later I got my Seq. back and also got a rental vehicle for the last week or so. Looks like they have not solved the problem.
Well Mother's Day I was driving along and turned on my AC. I lost my power stering and the battery light came on. Today I got the call that my compressor had seized up and the parts are on back order. I am getting a rental car on Toyota today but I hope I do not go through the hell I did last time. I only have 12,500 miles on due to the issues I speak about. Good luck.
There is a TSB for this problem, and involves the installation of a new oil pickup tube in the compressor. Otherwise, the old style tube will continue to starve the compressor of oil, with the symptoms that you describe.
I have an "01 with no AC problems -yet- but I now have 43K miles on my car. I have been through two summers here in Sacramento, very hot. Can I expect an ultimate failure of this system or are there some good and some bad unites. If it does go out after warrenty period, and there is a TSB out on it, will they still fix it for free?
...I do not have a Sequoia, but from what I can recall, there was a bad batch of these compressors, and the part was updated for later production units. So you might be okay, and remain okay.
By and large, a TSB is free under warranty, but not after it, unless it is a safety recall. It depends on the part affected and the willingness of the dealership to bat for you, which is related to your relationship with the dealer etc etc.
Just thought I'd share this neat little trick discovered recently...sitting still in 2WD, put the truck in gear, hit the 4wd button (the little center light comes on), shift into neutral, then back into gear and immediately all four greens come on! You're in 4WD without having to get up to 6 mph.
I got my Sequoia back Friday. They replaced the compressor, receiver dryer, ac clutch, expansion valves and many other misc parts. They also flushed the system. I thought I was going to beat the AC problems by waiting for the improved suction tube to come from the factory. That would have been a good game plan but the suction tube was just a band-aid. The real problem is the inadequate compressor. They are telling me that this is a re designed compressor. I think they are telling me the truth because they had 2 old compressors in stock and wouldn't use them on my truck because it would just fail again. I think once summer hits hard we will see the back ordered compressor problem again. My production date is June 2002 9000 miles. This had better be the end of the major problems or I am done with Toyota.

I have recently purchased a 2002 Sequoia SR5 with 39k miles. I bought it from a cousin, who bought it at auction. It was having some AC problems so he had it put into his shop for service and they said they replaced a temperature sensor in the Climate control system.
I was driving it this weekend and used the AC in Auto mode. It wasn't blowing cold, and the AC light was flashing. I tried it the next day and it was working. It hasn't been hot enough here in Colorado to use the AC much yet. I then searched this forum for AC problems and read lots of posts about AC problems. I checked and found that I do have the new suction tube.
I am curious if it came from the factory originally with the new suction tube, or if it already had an AC system failure and was fixed under the TSB for the AC issue. I have read at least one post that had the compressor fail, the fix under the TSB, then failed again.
Here are my questions:
1. How do I find out the build date of my vehicle, and after what build date was the new suction tube installed in the factory?
2. How can I find out if my vehicle has been in for the AC TSB? Can / will a Toyota dealer give me this info? How about a Carfax report, will it contain this info?
3. If it had been in for A/C service under warranty and then failed again, do you think I would have any recourse with Toyota since it is currently out of warranty?
I got a 2003 Sequoia limited 4WD with rear AC control. Last weekend, I stumbled upon a weird behaviour playing with my rear AC control. With everything off, when I pressed the "Auto" button in the rear controls and setting the rear temp to the coldest (65F), I noticed the rear fans comes on full blast but no cold air i.e. the AC is not engaged. I only get cold air in the rear when I engaged the "AC" in the front control i.e. when the AC light at the front is on. This doesn't look right - is this a bug or a feature? I want to know before heading over the my toyota service. Thanks.

That seems to be the fault that the computer shows when the compressor fails. Make sure you get the upgraded compressor because there are still some old compressors around in the dealers stock. I would be suspicious if they can get the new compressor in less than 3 or 4 days. It took almost 3 weeks to get all the parts needed to finish the repair. Good luck.
...are dependent on the front panel controls, and thus will provide cold air only when the front panel switch is set to AC to engage the compressor, plus the fan at at least the slowest speed.
Just what the world needs, more full size SUV confusion. Lets see, Navigator, Escalade, Denali, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL, Expedition, Excursion, Land Cruiser, Hummer 1, Hummer 2. And I'm sure that I missed a few. The only major manufacturer missing is Daimler-Chysler. I guess they're waiting for the most opportune time to jump in.
As long as minuteman give the trick for getting into 4WD from a stop, here is a trick for getting out of 4WD when moving. Tap the brake. When driving down hill, it is hard to get the thing out of 4WD because of the tension on the drive line. If you tap the brake, you interrupt the momentum and it kicks right out.
Does anyone have the upgraded JBL system with 10 speakers? Where are the speakers located. I could only find 6 speakers on the Limited and SR5s that are supposed to have 10 speakers. I asked a salesman who could not find them either. Any thoughts?
I agree! So here is a question. Has anyone figured a way to quickely clamp the second row of seats up to the grab bar. It seems like every time I roll the seats up to make more room and try and use that c clamp to hook on the grab bar it is never the right length and it is difficult to adjust.
Very small complaints for a car with 44K miles on it but it is just a great car that keeps running at top notch performance!
Can anyone tell me the differences? Most dealers I talk to are pretty useless when I ask them specifics. I'm looking at buying a used '02 Limited, but I can get a new SR5 with leather for about the same price. What am I missing out on?
With my Matrix in the body shop after my wife decided to yank its doors off its hinges inside the garage, backing into a pole with the rear door open, use of the Seq has come back to life. And, what a wonderful vehicle it is. I guess I am spoiled by so much Toyota's around me Now with 41K miles on my '01, there is nothing to complain about.

I am currently a Sienna owner with 1 year left on a company lease. I have the option to buy outright or buy whatever I want. I want to purchase a 24' camping trailer with a dry weight of 4500lbs (approx) so I am looking into an SUV instead of keeping the van.
On average we would be camping and towing about 4-5 times a year - 2x to the Eastern Sierra's and a few times out toward Palm Springs, CA area. How does the Sequoia behave when towing? Can any of you campers out there tell me how the Sequoia tows a camping trailer?
Camp away big guy!! I've got a 2002 Sequoia pulling a 24' camper with NO PROBLEMS! The 4x2 Sequoia will tow a max. of 6200 lbs. if equipped with the proper hitch. I personally use an Equal-i-zer load balancing hitch with sway control. Remember to turn off "Overdrive" while towing and keep the tongue weight at around 10%-15% percent of the total camper weight. The Sequoia is quite the underrated puller.
I finally got my Sequoia SR5. It is the beautiful Salsa Red color. I like everything except the sound system. I called Toyota to find the location of the 10 speakers. Here are the positions: 2-tweeters (those black ones on the driver and passenger side pillars), two speakers per door. This makes 10. Unfortunately, there is no sub woofer. All the sound is concentrated at the front and when you seat in the third row, you can hardly hear the sound, if the radio is at normal volume. Here is my question: Has anyone upgraded their sound system? I am thinking of adding two speakers and sub woofer in the back near the third row seats. Any tips or advice?

The SUV has everything I want and, more importantly, not a lot of the extra stuff I don't want and don't want to pay for. How do I locate it? If it's not available until July 2nd - where is it now?
