As far as pricing goes, it's rarely productive to talk about pricing AFTER you've already laid down the hard earned cash. That having been said, I picked mine up for $32,241 + $175 licence fee + Tax. Now if you add the entertainment system at $1299 and about $100 for a rear wind spoiler, you get $33,640+licence and Tax. Considering that your setup is MSRP'd at $38,640 and paid $34,680, it looks like you got about $4,000 off sticker...not bad at all. I think you did better than most, not as good as some. Now that the deal is behind me, I'm just enjoying the #$%@ out of it!!!

I have the Nissan hitch. It protudes a little to allow clearance for the spare. It's a class III and plenty strong.
My thoughts:
Your car weighs 3000+ lbs and the trailer 1000 lbs?, through the Rockies?? Personally, I would not do it. Take the money for trailer rental and hitch and ship one car. Take a headache free trip.
Good Luck
Les
Once you unscrew the tail lights screws, pull the assemblies straight back, gently. Once they are off, pull the grommets and get a wire hanger. The hanger shouldn't be too stiff. With someone shining a light from the bottom through the hole in the bottom, the person up top can guide the wire through.
The hardest thing was threading the ends of the harness through the holes at the lights. :-)
There is no need to remove any panels... If you need to actually install the hitch itself, let me know. I know an easier way to do so.
Cheers!
I'm having a hard time justifying spending around $400-$500 right now to have it installed for just this one trip.
Any help is appreciated...I'll do some research on this here now myself. Thanks.
This is the 2nd oil change for the truck...the 1st change was a freebie by the dealer. I went to Mobil 1 synthetic oil with a Fram filter...my odo is at 6400 km (4000 miles). I don't know why there is so much scuttlebutt about putting synthetic oil in too early? No probs at all here!
I put in a K&N air filter when odo read 1000 miles. Everything seems great at this time.
I just returned on a trip from Toronto to Cleveland...put 1500 km (900 miles) on the odo..averaged 65 mph and peaked out at 95 mph...truck is a fine machine! Just gotta watch out for the smokies on I-90 in Pennsylvania.
Cheers.
Did anyone come up with the URL link to the grill guard that was posted som time ago. It also was a GOOD THING.

Other than that, the price of gas is killing me. I think I am going to trade, but there are no blue books on the car. It's in mint shape all highway miles, any suggestions on this?? I have to get something that is not a gas guzzler, although if we have another winter like the one past, I will be kicking myself for giving up the pathy.
Oh, window shade vents. I purchased my rubber winter mats (big saver on dirt and mud) from a place in CA. They were cheap, and the people were extraordinarily friendly. I will get you the name and post it. Someone on here suggested it to me.
Happy driving!

Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know
Thanks,
Bob in South Florida
Good luck, let me know what the dealer says.

(And I'd certainly recommend the "Turkish Riviera" for a vacation. Very, very nice! And inexpensive too. Thanks to fellow Path owners mbunting and wailuabob for help on this adventure.)
Good luck.
The deal went smoothly at the dealer...signed at the x...handed over the check....wala...this new truck is mine! (and the banks of course) My husband and I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame and got to see Niagara Falls. Canada is pretty cool, especially the exchange rate. We are planning to go back when we have more time. The worst part of the trip was dealing with customs. First of all we could not get over to Canadian customs to get out E15 stamped, so we had to go back over the bridge. That was not a big deal. Canadian Customs officers actually had personalities. We crossed at Fort Erie because it was recommended... They were so clueless. They didn't know how much duty, or how to work their own cash register, or what to do with our personal check. The three officers that we dealt with reminded me of Moe, Larry and curly! In fact, it turns out they charged us the wrong duty, didn't give us our $400 each exemption, and charged the duty on the sales tax. I just wanted to get back to the States so we did not argue. I contacted them via e-mail and I am filing a protest because I know that they are wrong. The customs headquarters said that it will be taken care of. I think they owe us about $100. Time will tell!
The truck is awesome! We made it all the was home without being stopped for having no license plates...accept for the little piece of paper on the front windshield. We were careful to go the speed limit. The real agony started when we got home...and registered at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. I was there for 1 1/2 hours arguing that we shouldn't have to pay taxes on the canadian taxes. I spoke to a supervisor, which did no good. I had to pay about $300 more in state taxes. However I calle the MA dept of revenue and now I have to file a tax abaitment to get my money back. More paper work....But I still say: GO TO CANADA while you can. The dealers in the US are eventually going to find out and then that might mean the end. We paid $25777 US for our PF SE with AT and Leather including the duty. A steal. I think we saved almost $6000, according to edmunds TMV. Of course we have to wait 6-8 weeks for our Canadian tax refund, but that is ok, it'll give me time to sell my GMC Jimmy and then we will refinance the PF...it'll cut 2 years off our payments. If anyone has any questions...just ask!
Anyhoo, this is my first new vehicle (hell, first vehicle that wasn't a beater) and I want to baby it. I've looked around a bit, but could someone comment on care and feeding (accessories too if you want) that has worked best for PFs? Apologies that this rehashes some old subjects... So far I have:
* Lexol for leather, Vinylex for plastic/rubber/vinyl
* Zaino car polish (which products?) and a cloth baby diaper
* wax?
* K&N air filter
* non-synthetic oil (for now) - brands?
* silicon lube (for rubbers that move)
* Meguiars???
* Nissan bug guard
Any details or other maintenance items I'm missing? Other "must have" accessories?
What a great list...You should hear them complain and bicker over in the Durango lists... 8^) Thanks!!!
Rear window wind deflector that slightly helps during rain. Personally it adds to the looks but some do not like the acrylic that is being offered for the LE. The Infinity uses the same acrylic material (this is not the same as the one installed on the SE). Maybe you can look at the Infiniti's before you decide
Instead of the bug deflector, I have the mask but I only use for long travels. It protects almost the entire front from bugs and small stones. I do not leave it long though because it might leave marks on the paint.
I am using lexol for the leather and I am happy with it
I initially used the Meguiars professional sealant # 20 recommended for new paints. Little expensive than the ordinary wax they sell but it is a great finished on the paint
I have the all weather floor mats. It was a good investment during bad weather. I got my LE during the rainy season and the original carpets still looks new
I have not tried the others, but a lot have been written about them. If you are patient enough you can look back to some previous messages that will help you a lot. That is what I did when I got my PF
Congratulations and enjoy your new LE!
lifespan on an '88 PF engine/transmission is, and if this is a good deal at $3500...Still in college for another year, so couldn't really afford to spring for a rebuild or new trans, etc. right off the bat, so the 150K mileage is a bit of a concern, but I really don't know much about these vehicles. thanx for any info or advice!
Congrats Hattrick. Going Canadian is by far the best. They're better equiped and you save $$$. NOt sure what you mean by $400 exemption.
My 01' Silver LE is still doing just fine, nearly 10 K Miles and still going strong. I'm anxious to see if any changes on the 2002 PF (whenever it's announced) will give me the urge to trade:)
Some things I have added:
1)Nissan Rear Wind Deflector (I love the look it adds to the LE, this is the acrylic version)
2)K & N Air Filter (I "think" I feel a little HP boost, especially at slower speeds?)
3) Nissan Side window deflectors (Cuts down some of the noise on the highway IMHO)
4) Nissan BugFlector (adds to the looks and keeps alot of the bugs off the windshield and hood I guess)
5)Lot's of new CD's for that 6 disc changer:)
6)Need to order Zaino...just been raining too much here in Mississippi to do much cleaning (and I'm moving to Seattle in 2 months, so MORE RAIN:)
7) Still want to add a DVD/Navigation system of some sort (I guess I'm too afraid to plop down the cash...always something better and more expensive coming out every day, someday I'll do this...maybe in my 2002 PF:))
Have a good weekend Pathy owners!
SE AWD with auto trans, sunroof pkg, and more: $25,000
LE AWD with leather, and more: $27,300.
dindak,
Some US dealers must know about people going up to Canada to save thousands. But the small number of people who have discovered this option is probably not hurting them much. Nissan Canada still allows sales to the US for most of their vehicles (Infiniti too).
As always, I'm happy to answer questions about going to Canada to buy (we are now up to over forty that I know of who have done it).

Now for the really amazing part. Just got back from a trip to the coast (Vancouver Island - Courtney BC from Edmonton Alta). It's a day and a half drive, usually. I decided to try it in one day on the way there. I was tired, but not dizzy etc. On the way back I did it easily in one day (it's 1350 km with a ferry trip in the west end - did it in 18 hrs total - about 15 1/2 hours driving). I could never do this trip in one day in my Toy. 4Runner.
Mileage average was 12.5 L/100 km, about 1 L/100 km more than the Toy. 4Runner (3 L V6 man.). I have the 2001 LE (auto.), but I was going much faster too (did I say that? - couldn't be ;-).
I love this SUV!
If we go midsize SUV next spring, it will likely come down to the '02 Trailblazer and the Pathfinder.
Pathstar : Thanx for the info on mileage. Was that mostly highway?
The harness really isn't that hard. Just a little bit of diligence. And yes, you do indeed need a stiff wire to get the harness up to the each of the rear lights. No need to remove any panels...
Cheers!
