The fuel tank hold 21.1 gal. The fuel light on mine comes on when there
is about 5 gals left. Each might be alittle different. Drive yours until the light
comes on and then fill it up.

Just gotten myself an 01 LE all mode with every imaginable option included (Nav/Ent/LSD/micro filter/rear wind deflector/Tow hitch/touch of class coating etc...) for 34,680+Tx+Lic. I was wondering if this is a good price for it. I'm in northern California. BTW I'm perfectly happy with it so far, haven't notice that "shimmy" effect that I read so much about on this board. Inputs are appreciated.

First off, congrats on your getting your new Pathfinder!!! I have the same one minus the entertainment system. You'll just love the navigation and the LE in general. I just passed 10,000 miles and have had it in snow, deserts, mud, off-roading (if anyone wants a shot of my LE with tires off the ground let me know), etc... I love it!

As far as pricing goes, it's rarely productive to talk about pricing AFTER you've already laid down the hard earned cash. That having been said, I picked mine up for $32,241 + $175 licence fee + Tax. Now if you add the entertainment system at $1299 and about $100 for a rear wind spoiler, you get $33,640+licence and Tax. Considering that your setup is MSRP'd at $38,640 and paid $34,680, it looks like you got about $4,000 off sticker...not bad at all. I think you did better than most, not as good as some. Now that the deal is behind me, I'm just enjoying the #$%@ out of it!!!

I recently purchased a 01 SE and spoke with the server manager regarding towing as I have a boat in the 2700 lb range. The transmission has a built in cooler which is good for it's rated capacity (5000 lbs.). The manager did recommend installing a larger cooler if regular towing close to max capacity.

I have the Nissan hitch. It protudes a little to allow clearance for the spare. It's a class III and plenty strong.

    My thoughts:
Your car weighs 3000+ lbs and the trailer 1000 lbs?, through the Rockies?? Personally, I would not do it. Take the money for trailer rental and hitch and ship one car. Take a headache free trip.

    Good Luck

Hi all. It's been quite a while since I logged on so be patient with me. I'm looking for info on an air bag suspension system for the rear of my '01 LE. I'm sure that there have been posts related to this but maybe someone can point the way for me. I'm in So. Cal and I'm looking for someone that can install these for me along with the compressor and pressure gage at a reasonable price. Many months ago some were touting Air Lift air springs for the rear. Thanks for any help.

Hey, I'm looking for Scotch Guard for Leather. I've found on their web site that they do make it, but I can't seem to find it in any stores. If anyone knows where I can buy some (online or store) please let me know. Thanks...

I installed a hitch on my 01 PF the other month. I finally got around to buying the wiring kit. How hard it is too install? I see you have to remove the panels in the cargo area to access the tail light connectors. How do the panels come off? I only see 2 screws, do they then snap off? Any information would be appreciated.

where can i get the cheapeast Nissan factory ventshade for 2001 LE?
  • nismofreaknismofreak Member Posts: 120
For me it was a cinch. But before I started I though it was gonna be hard. All you need to remove are the two tail lights and the two rubber grommets...

Once you unscrew the tail lights screws, pull the assemblies straight back, gently. Once they are off, pull the grommets and get a wire hanger. The hanger shouldn't be too stiff. With someone shining a light from the bottom through the hole in the bottom, the person up top can guide the wire through.

The hardest thing was threading the ends of the harness through the holes at the lights. :-)

There is no need to remove any panels... If you need to actually install the hitch itself, let me know. I know an easier way to do so.

    Cheers!

I just got the 98PF few week ago. The truck is great except the engine serice soon light pop up the the other day. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the car?
  • mbuntingmbunting Member Posts: 158
Not a bad idea Les, do you know of any references I can use to find out more information on shipping the car? From say: New Orleans to Seattle?

I'm having a hard time justifying spending around $400-$500 right now to have it installed for just this one trip.

Any help is appreciated...I'll do some research on this here now myself. Thanks.

I recently purchased a 01 LE Pathfinder, and I am expericing the "Dreaded Shimmy". I have scrolled through all 3000+ messages seeking topics in reference to this Shimmy issue. I have found some topics on this issue, but I need some assistance. Please reply if you have had this problem and had found a way to resolve it. I have only 400 miles on my Pathy and I brought it in to the Dealership to fix it. They balanced the tires and the shimmy is still there. I asked for a copy of the Nissan Service Bulletin NTB00-061 and asked them to address the issues presented in the document. I then took the service rep with me for a ride and showed him the Shimmy. I had a glass of water in the vehicle and showed the ripples of water that the shimmy caused and that you could clearly feel the Vibration, in the seat, armrest, and steering wheel, especially at speeds between 35-45 mph, but more so, at 45-55 mph. They told me that in their opinion that vehicle drives fine and there is no problem and so go away. I called Nissan's 800 number, but they did not help. I have owned a Nissan Pickup SE since 1994 and I have never had a Shimmy issue. I have Dunlop tires and I was wondering if I should just replace the tries with a higher quality tire such as Michelin. Some of you mentioned having the tires Index Balanced? What is this? Also, some of you have mentioned adjusting the steering rack could also help. Lastly, how did you get Nissan to resolve this matter? Please help!!!!!!

I just did my 1st oil change last week on my 2001 PF SE AWD. What a piece of cake...the oil filter is EASILY accessible after the floor shield is removed (8-10 screws). The oil plug is fully accessible also. All this WITHOUT jacking up the truck.

This is the 2nd oil change for the truck...the 1st change was a freebie by the dealer. I went to Mobil 1 synthetic oil with a Fram filter...my odo is at 6400 km (4000 miles). I don't know why there is so much scuttlebutt about putting synthetic oil in too early? No probs at all here!

I put in a K&N air filter when odo read 1000 miles. Everything seems great at this time.

I just returned on a trip from Toronto to Cleveland...put 1500 km (900 miles) on the odo..averaged 65 mph and peaked out at 95 mph...truck is a fine machine! Just gotta watch out for the smokies on I-90 in Pennsylvania.

    Cheers.

I have a 2001 LE with 5500 Km. (3300M) and have noticed that the leather on the driver's seat has developed a severe crease. In fact the leather has folded over. I worry that in time it will crack, especially in cold weather. Has anyone else had this problem and how is it fixed? Is it a warrantee item? I have not taken it to the dealer yet.
  • neil73neil73 Member Posts: 7
Did you order your K&N air filter from the company or did they have at your auto parts store?
  • ballfire8888ballfire8888 Member Posts: 131
Neil73 >>> I purchased the air filter from the local retailer (Canadian Tire) for approx $50 Cdn. I would think you could grab it at Pep boys or sumthin.
  • bimmer4mebimmer4me Member Posts: 266
My last few cars had leather seats including my PF and they all will develop little creases, especially the drivers side for obvious reasons. You should use a leather conditioner to keep your leather soft and from cracking due to the sun etc. I use Lexol and it works well.

I can't say enough about "Air Lift" air springs they make the Pathfinder more of a truck. I have the air bags, compressor & gauge.
Did anyone come up with the URL link to the grill guard that was posted som time ago. It also was a GOOD THING.

How often do you Lexol your leather seat to prevent from cracking? Where do you get Lexol? Would AutoZone or any local auto-parts carry it? TIA!

What kind of mileage are people actually getting with the new generation Pathfinders?
  • bimmer4mebimmer4me Member Posts: 266
I purchased Lexol at an auto parts store called Pep Boys here in So. Cal. It probably can be found at any auto store that sell car waxes etc...I can't really recommend how often you should condition your leather not knowing your weather conditions. I live in a very sunny and hot environment and condition my leather 3-4 times a year.

I just had my 1 year with my '01 PF LE, 25,000 miles on it, still works great. I had the shimmy in the beginning but the tires being balanced helped to correct this problem. My only problem has been with the windows, leaking, not rolling up, and being off track.
Other than that, the price of gas is killing me. I think I am going to trade, but there are no blue books on the car. It's in mint shape all highway miles, any suggestions on this?? I have to get something that is not a gas guzzler, although if we have another winter like the one past, I will be kicking myself for giving up the pathy.

Oh, window shade vents. I purchased my rubber winter mats (big saver on dirt and mud) from a place in CA. They were cheap, and the people were extraordinarily friendly. I will get you the name and post it. Someone on here suggested it to me.

    Happy driving!

I've got 12000 miles on my '01 PF and almost since day one it has had a roaring noise coming from the drivers side window. Only happens at highway speeds (>70mph). I can press my hand against the window and it will stop. Dealer is still trying to fix the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know

    Thanks,
    Bob in South Florida

I saw it at Fred Meyer the other day while buying toys for my PF.
  • xplorer2xplorer2 Member Posts: 17
I have had numerous window problems. The back window leaked and had to be fixed 2x. The sunroof leaked, fixed 3x and I made them replace the shade. The drivers side window has been a nightmare. They replaced the coil engine, the window track, and I continue having problems. The rubber lining fell out in the 95 degree weather a couple weeks ago, and when I use the auto up button, the window when just about at the up position, reverses and goes back down half way. So good luck with the windows!
  • goblue96goblue96 Member Posts: 33
I have had the same thing happen to me. Only twice in my PF, but repeatedly in our 99 Altima. I found it to happened only when I rolled the window up while driving at high speed. When I rolled the window up at a stop, it wouldn't whistle. I think it had something to do where the window is "seated" at the top, at high speeds the window gets slightly pulled away from the car.
Good luck, let me know what the dealer says.

I go away on a two-week vacation and now that I'm back it seems like half the US went to Canada to buy a Pathfinder while I was gone. Sorry for all of you who emailed and didn't get a timely response. Did I finally get all the emails answered? Or did I miss somebody?

I named my new truck "nook"...because it is a Canuck!
The deal went smoothly at the dealer...signed at the x...handed over the check....wala...this new truck is mine! (and the banks of course) My husband and I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame and got to see Niagara Falls. Canada is pretty cool, especially the exchange rate. We are planning to go back when we have more time. The worst part of the trip was dealing with customs. First of all we could not get over to Canadian customs to get out E15 stamped, so we had to go back over the bridge. That was not a big deal. Canadian Customs officers actually had personalities. We crossed at Fort Erie because it was recommended... They were so clueless. They didn't know how much duty, or how to work their own cash register, or what to do with our personal check. The three officers that we dealt with reminded me of Moe, Larry and curly! In fact, it turns out they charged us the wrong duty, didn't give us our $400 each exemption, and charged the duty on the sales tax. I just wanted to get back to the States so we did not argue. I contacted them via e-mail and I am filing a protest because I know that they are wrong. The customs headquarters said that it will be taken care of. I think they owe us about $100. Time will tell!
The truck is awesome! We made it all the was home without being stopped for having no license plates...accept for the little piece of paper on the front windshield. We were careful to go the speed limit. The real agony started when we got home...and registered at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. I was there for 1 1/2 hours arguing that we shouldn't have to pay taxes on the canadian taxes. I spoke to a supervisor, which did no good. I had to pay about $300 more in state taxes. However I calle the MA dept of revenue and now I have to file a tax abaitment to get my money back. More paper work....But I still say: GO TO CANADA while you can. The dealers in the US are eventually going to find out and then that might mean the end. We paid $25777 US for our PF SE with AT and Leather including the duty. A steal. I think we saved almost $6000, according to edmunds TMV. Of course we have to wait 6-8 weeks for our Canadian tax refund, but that is ok, it'll give me time to sell my GMC Jimmy and then we will refinance the PF...it'll cut 2 years off our payments. If anyone has any questions...just ask!

What's the year/model of your Pathfinder and what was the part no. on your Air Lift spring kit? Thanks.

Got a decent deal on a Silver LE with everything except nav/ent. Thanks to those who responded to my earlier responses - found a dealer who had the car delivered to them and then delivered to me (approx 200 miles though) - no charge for delivery, no deposit, etc. Grass Valley Nissan (CA, USA) was very nice to me. 8^) Only wish I could have bought Canadian, but I had mitigating circumstances. 8^(

Anyhoo, this is my first new vehicle (hell, first vehicle that wasn't a beater) and I want to baby it. I've looked around a bit, but could someone comment on care and feeding (accessories too if you want) that has worked best for PFs? Apologies that this rehashes some old subjects... So far I have:

    * Lexol for leather, Vinylex for plastic/rubber/vinyl
    * Zaino car polish (which products?) and a cloth baby diaper
    * wax?
    * K&N air filter
    * non-synthetic oil (for now) - brands?
    * silicon lube (for rubbers that move)
    * Meguiars???
    * Nissan bug guard

Any details or other maintenance items I'm missing? Other "must have" accessories?

What a great list...You should hear them complain and bicker over in the Durango lists... 8^) Thanks!!!

Things I have installed, used that I have not regretted so far:

Rear window wind deflector that slightly helps during rain. Personally it adds to the looks but some do not like the acrylic that is being offered for the LE. The Infinity uses the same acrylic material (this is not the same as the one installed on the SE). Maybe you can look at the Infiniti's before you decide

Instead of the bug deflector, I have the mask but I only use for long travels. It protects almost the entire front from bugs and small stones. I do not leave it long though because it might leave marks on the paint.

I am using lexol for the leather and I am happy with it

I initially used the Meguiars professional sealant # 20 recommended for new paints. Little expensive than the ordinary wax they sell but it is a great finished on the paint

I have the all weather floor mats. It was a good investment during bad weather. I got my LE during the rainy season and the original carpets still looks new

I have not tried the others, but a lot have been written about them. If you are patient enough you can look back to some previous messages that will help you a lot. That is what I did when I got my PF

Congratulations and enjoy your new LE!

I'm thinking about buying an '88 PF that has 149,000 miles on it. It's loaded, pretty clean overall, and drives OK (though I didn't test the 4WD)...The seller is asking $3500 and won't budge off that price. I'd like to know what the average
lifespan on an '88 PF engine/transmission is, and if this is a good deal at $3500...Still in college for another year, so couldn't really afford to spring for a rebuild or new trans, etc. right off the bat, so the 150K mileage is a bit of a concern, but I really don't know much about these vehicles. thanx for any info or advice!
  • the_gladiatorthe_gladiator Member Posts: 58
Anyone have a recommendation on a bug shield that lessens the likelyhood of rock chips in windows?

Congrats Hattrick. Going Canadian is by far the best. They're better equiped and you save $$$. NOt sure what you mean by $400 exemption.
  • mbuntingmbunting Member Posts: 158
JON: Glad you enjoyed the trip.....I wish I could have helped you out more!

My 01' Silver LE is still doing just fine, nearly 10 K Miles and still going strong. I'm anxious to see if any changes on the 2002 PF (whenever it's announced) will give me the urge to trade:)

    Some things I have added:

1)Nissan Rear Wind Deflector (I love the look it adds to the LE, this is the acrylic version)
2)K & N Air Filter (I "think" I feel a little HP boost, especially at slower speeds?)
    3) Nissan Side window deflectors (Cuts down some of the noise on the highway IMHO)
    4) Nissan BugFlector (adds to the looks and keeps alot of the bugs off the windshield and hood I guess)
5)Lot's of new CD's for that 6 disc changer:)
6)Need to order Zaino...just been raining too much here in Mississippi to do much cleaning (and I'm moving to Seattle in 2 months, so MORE RAIN:)
    7) Still want to add a DVD/Navigation system of some sort (I guess I'm too afraid to plop down the cash...always something better and more expensive coming out every day, someday I'll do this...maybe in my 2002 PF:))

Have a good weekend Pathy owners!

Nissan's U.S. dealers must know about Americans going to Canada to buy Pathfinders. If I was loosing sales like that, I'd be calling head office. I know the local Honda dealer will not sell to Americans any more as Honda Canada put the hammer down. Most cars/trucks are cheaper here on a strait exchange basis due to the surging U.S. dollar.
  • joef4570joef4570 Member Posts: 29
To those who have installed the Nissan tow hitch on their PF, how difficult was it?. I know the electrical can be tricky but what about the hitch itself? Is it bolt-on to existing holes? My dealer wants $204. to install. I could sure kick myself for not getting one as an original option.......For those thinking about the OEM Bug Deflector, go for it if you like the look (I do). It's an easy no-drill install & while it does help to keep bugs off of the windshield, it also goes a long way to help protect the hood front from rock dings......Lastly, I've been using the Zaino system for the past two months and can't say enough good things about it. To me the shine (which is great) is secondary. It's the way Zaino keeps the truck clean is what amazes me. Dirt just doesn't seem to stick. I can hose it down, without using any soap, squeegee and towel it off quick & it looks like its just been cleaned & waxed.
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
A few people have written me asking if the $1500 Canadian Path rebate is still on. I checked and it is. No expiration date yet given. Even with the lower exchange rate of the last couple weeks, prices are still down. Here's what I've seen lately (converted to US dollars and including duty):
SE AWD with auto trans, sunroof pkg, and more: $25,000
LE AWD with leather, and more: $27,300.

    dindak,
Some US dealers must know about people going up to Canada to save thousands. But the small number of people who have discovered this option is probably not hurting them much. Nissan Canada still allows sales to the US for most of their vehicles (Infiniti too).

As always, I'm happy to answer questions about going to Canada to buy (we are now up to over forty that I know of who have done it).

    -Jon

First, ditto on the Zaino. Great stuff. The tow hitch bolts to existing holes (and they are easy to get at). The wiring is the tough part (as usual).

Now for the really amazing part. Just got back from a trip to the coast (Vancouver Island - Courtney BC from Edmonton Alta). It's a day and a half drive, usually. I decided to try it in one day on the way there. I was tired, but not dizzy etc. On the way back I did it easily in one day (it's 1350 km with a ferry trip in the west end - did it in 18 hrs total - about 15 1/2 hours driving). I could never do this trip in one day in my Toy. 4Runner.

Mileage average was 12.5 L/100 km, about 1 L/100 km more than the Toy. 4Runner (3 L V6 man.). I have the 2001 LE (auto.), but I was going much faster too (did I say that? - couldn't be ;-).

    I love this SUV!
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I guess Nissan figures a sale is a sale. Interesting.

If we go midsize SUV next spring, it will likely come down to the '02 Trailblazer and the Pathfinder.

Pathstar : Thanx for the info on mileage. Was that mostly highway?
  • the_gladiatorthe_gladiator Member Posts: 58
A pre-welcome to the NW. Expect to get more rain here than in Ole Miss. However, you'll be able to enjoy the use of your 4wd more....
  • pathstarpathstar Member Posts: 201
I get 12 to 13 L/100km highway (11 if going between 80 and 100 km/hr), and 15 to 17 city, depending on whether it's winter or not. Again, this is with a 2001 LE (auto. of course). I would expect the manual trans. models to burn 1 L/100km less. Not bad, considering the incredible power you have under your foot!
  • nismofreaknismofreak Member Posts: 120
I installed my own hitch and harness. To install the hitch, I found it easier to loosely bolt the two side supports first and then bolt in the middle. And yes, the holes preexist.

The harness really isn't that hard. Just a little bit of diligence. And yes, you do indeed need a stiff wire to get the harness up to the each of the rear lights. No need to remove any panels...

    Cheers!
