  I have the same exact issue. Anyone know what this might be. Almost sounds like a bearing ?

  I have a 2005 ML500 and just recently it started making a weird sound. When I am coasting slowing down and below 25 mph I start hearing a groaning sound. Only time I can hear it is below 25 and all the way until the vehicle stops. Even if I put the car in neutral and slow down below the speed it sounds the same in gear or not in gear.
  I lifted the back end and let the wheels spin and it doesn't sound like its coming from the wheels.
  Any help would be great thank you.
