Can I change my 1998 Sonoma 2.2L engine with a 1995 S-10 4.3L engine?

I have a 1998 GMC Sonoma with a 2.2L engine and want to replace it with a 1995 Chevy S-10 4.3L engine. I have the whole 1995 S-10 truck for parts. Any help would be welcomed.

    Should be do-able. If they are both manual transmissions, I don't think your 2.2L bellhousing will work and I don't think your transmission will handle the extra power. The automatics on both trucks might be the same--you should check that. In any event, it's going to be a fair amount of work, so by all means consider rebuilding your 2.2 as an alternative.

    My best advice on engine swaps is to always talk to someone who has already done it. Pioneers get arrows in their back, settlers learn from pioneers.

    The whole reason to do the engine swap is due to the 98 Sonoma's automatic transmission going out. I picked up the 95 S-10 hoping it is the same and just swap the transmission. Worst case is to do the engine swap. Back in August I changed the 2.2L in the 98 Sonoma and that was not an easy project. Bill
