Transmission swap

Ok I have a 05 dodge neon 2.0 automatic and it needs a new transmission and I have a 02 dodge neon 2.0 auto with a bad motor. Now can I put the transmission from the 02 into the 05 with no major differences like a straight bolt up and plug in? Or is there some reason it will not work? They look exactly the same but some people I have talk to say there is a year specific transmission in the 02 neon. Some good info would be a great help before I start pulling the trans. Thanks

    Well this is an electronically shifted transaxle so you have to wonder if the 2005s control module is going to be able to talk to the 2002, which I don't believe is actually "the same", but rather a variant. Yours is a 40TE, the old one a 41TE.

    I always advise people to either get a swap from the same year car or to talk to someone online who has already done the exact swap you have done. There should be Neon forums that are having this discussion.
