BMW makes great powertrains. Smooth, quiet, economical, super-wide powerbands (thanks, turbocharging...) and they are always underrated by the mfg.

All of the German manufacturers have just a truckload of very intensive experience with various flavors of forced induction, and it really shows.

Good to know that stepping up to the 340 doesn't penalize efficiency too badly. My 2015 328i xdrive wagon is just a hair short of the 26 mpg combined EPA rating over 10,000 mile. I do drive with any eye towards fuel efficiency and will also have fund from time to time Got 34 mpg highway with the cruise set at 80. Not too bad.
