2003 TL transmission slip, worth replace?

I have a 2003 TL base that has 170k miles. Transmission started slip 2 weeks ago, most likely need replace it if I want to keep the car.

The car looks and runs well other than this problem, and I got quoted to replace a re-manufactured transmission for $2400.

Is it worth to replace the transmission? If not, what should I do for the car?

Given today's repair costs, a bad transmission can often "total" an otherwise nice car. Tough call!

It is a tough call which is why I waffled on it :p .

And you're right, $2400 does just about total the car. But if it's otherwise been very reliable, and looks good, no doubt it still has another 50K miles in it.

What's needed here is a sober assessment of what likely needs replacement in the coming year.
