Is it worth $800 to have a dealer installed trailer hitch ?

Dealer quoted me $800 to mount a trailer hitch but the local tire dealer gave me a written estimate of $395

    You'd have to compare the quality of the hitches and also if the tire dealer's is an approved type for what you're doing. Also how it's mounted. What are the two brand names? What kind of honda is this?

    I was quoted the same amount by the dealership where I bought my 2018 Honda CRV. I plan to move 1000 miles to another state very soon. No furniture, mostly totes, boxes and maybe my vacuum. $800 to buy and mount. I called a U-Haul right down the street from them, and he gave me a quote on everything..hitch, lighting for trailer, 4' X 8' trailer and 5 days travel for $500! Great deal I thought, except I thought that I could quite possibly mail a whole lot of my things for less than $500! LOL But, I'm back to the trailer idea. Worst part is, I have never towed a thing!

    I'd shop around. There are hitches and there are HITCHES and they aren't all the same. At least do enough research so you know you are buying the hitch you actually need---not oversell or inadequate for the job you have in mind.
