2000 Grand Cherokee - NO RDS

Hi there, I have GC 2000 model my radio reads NO RDS the radio comes on no and then but its static on speakers, then it goes quite. All lights up on the radio and the amp seems to work its just that I can not get rid of the "No rds" please please HELP
