I have been haveing trouble finding a Resistor [non-permissible content removed]. Light Switch Rheostat for my 95 cougar...Ford is able to get it.....It is the dimmer Switch for the Dash and the Switch to turn on the lights inside the car....does anyone know where i might be able to find one..
Hi guy(girl?)! The color was called "Merlino Blue". There were more of them made than the color I had which was "Ash Gold Metallic". Anyhow, finding used body parts in the right color will probably be hard to do. However, any good body shop will be able to read the paint code off of your vin# and do whatever painting would be required. My old dealer's body shop was able to match the paint perfectly 3 times over the years that I had my 'Cat'. SkipG
not sure what part of the country your in but i have a 1984 cougar .grey ext -grey leather int .front buckets are the optional sport buckets not leather covered factory ones.the int is 80% or better. lots of rust bubbles showing on outside.this was a sp order unit. base body but pretty much an xr7. poly cast mags leather air(auto-temp) 302 modified clevland.hd valve train, double sump still runs.smokes like all get out.just valve seal i believe hasn't been on the road in years.never did burn oil. i think it has about 147k.all glass perfect s/s exhaust.auto trans.
My sunroof will not completely close on one side. I took to two places and was told it could run around $1400 to replace it because I guess there is no easy way to fix it unfortunately. I took it to a ford dealer to get them to at least get it to shut and they couldn't do it. Any suggestions on how I can close it??? It's not a problem until it rains. Thanks
I just bought a used 2000 w/110,000 miles. Should I replace the timing belt? Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if it's already been replaced? Also, the check engine light stays on. I believe this could be a sensor issue. Any way to tell? Thanks.
I can't help with the power window problem as I have not encountered that ...yet! However, I do own a 1999 Cougar with a 2.5 Duratec. The check engine light was on and off for a while then on constantly. It depends on what code it is throwing as to what is wrong with it. Mine was throwing PO400 which is a lean condition on one of the cylinder banks. I Purchased some Lucas fuel system treatment and within one tank of gas, the problem was fixed. Before I bought the code reader, I had tried several other injection system cleaners, to no avail. The Lucas product really worked for my situation. Incidentally, my MPG was improved as well. By the way, I get 35 MPG on the highway, at 70 MPH. The car gets 41 MPG at 55 MPH. I think this is real good numbers for a car that can somewhat perform when needed. I hope this helps. Lancasterench
Does anyone have a 1999-2000 cougar that the audio system is temperature sensitive. When the inside cabin temperature is hot, the audio system does not work. However, once the AC is on for a few minutes, the cabin cools down and the audio system "comes on". My only hypothesis is that there must be a crack in the circuitry that expands and contracts depending on the temperature. Can anyone expand or otherwise explain why this is occuring? Lancasterench
Can anyone advise how to manually close the sunroof on 2002 Mercury Cougar? The sunroof is open and will not close. The motor does not make a sound and the fuse is ok... Any suggestions? Thanks
I am having same problem getting oem manual on ebay getting ready to work on sons cougar tomorrow let me know if you found out how to close roof. The only way i can see is must take of head liner out and disconnect motor not good
Got my sons fixed took head liner out then took motor off, slide the roof foward then use the bad motor and use it like a crank to close roof then went to koi auto and got a new motor for $ 280.00 all fixed :-)
Just found out that the fuel bump is on recall what happens the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel and when the fuel level is around 1/4 tank for to many times it burns it up. Take it to dealer to check it out replaced for FREE!!! . If you don't have a studering problem it's good until 2012
power windows weeeell!!! to check to see if window motor is bad put car in garage let sit in there over night with a space heater on with the doors our hatch open ( the reason for this is to warm up push pins and the plastic liner on door inners). You will have a problem pulling the edges off so have some duck tape ready when putting back together. OK after you have the outter door panel off their should be a plug that is for door motor. take a batterey from a power tool like a drill and strip two wires on both ends stick one end of each into the battery and the other end on the plug end to motor try it both way's one way will take window up and other way will take window down. If windows work on the the door is the switches for windows get a eraser and clean them. this should take care of the problem if this does not work just write back and i will see what we can do next
I saw you posted that you have a check engine light on. A non-sealing fuel cap is one of the more common causes for a check engine light. You might want to replace the gas cap, reset the check engine light and see if it comes back on.
on my cougar my track assembly has broken. do you believe the sunroof assembly could be used to hold my moonroof. I think so because the only difference is the panel on top. But what do you think or know?
I know nothing about cars. I am attempting to change the oil in a 2002 Cougar. Where under the front end should I put the jack ? Also, can anyone describe exactly where the oil pan is ?
okay, i am now a proud owner of a 1993 Cougar. not a bad ride at all, got the V-6, all the bells and whistles. perty dam ironic I find someone posting something about the power windows. thats the only thing wrong with the car though...the power windows don't work....at all....the steps you outlined for checking the system are perty cut and dry....gonna give it go....see if it answers the questions i have been trying to find answers to......thanks "yankabily" i will post a final synopsis to your instructions in a couple of days....
okay yankabilly, thanks for the instructions on the window motor test!! great advice, i did exactly what you said. i guess the previous owner tried to fix the problem prior to me and did not put all the motor mounting screws back in place and it caused the motor gear to bind up. i removed the motor (after cutting a small section of the door frame, around the motor) put it to the battery and ola' it worked. i replaced the motor to its position, this time installing ALL screws and the drivers side window works like a champ. i went to check the passenger window, it did not work also. but unforunately i could not fix it, due to the fact the motor was GONE! no wonder it won't work...lol so does anyone out there have any advice or resources for the window motors? who or where would be the best place to get a replacement motor? THANKS AGAIN "YANKABILLY"!!!!!!!!
Got an 83 LS with a sweet little 302 that simply shuts off without notice.
Replaced fuel pump (twice), filter (twice), plugs and wires - and had the 'computer chip' (Duramax?) replaced twice. Now I can't find this 'chip' anywhere - heard it was one of the first engine's outfitted with it but it cuts the flow of electricity to the distributor and it behaves like it's out of fuel.
Can anyone tell me where I find a replacement one? Hell, I'm not even sure where I can find it in the engine box...
can't close the trunk lid, tried changeing the remote battery, pulling the handle release inside boot, turning the key in lock . Refuses to allow lid to close 100 % and lock
dont know if this has been answered the problem is the miss alinment of the hatch latch and the holder in the truck. some times you can get away with just giving it a wack with a hammer or must loosen and adjust
mechanic unbolted the solenoid assembly in the bk of the car and removed , then pulled the emergency handle in the trunk. After that the lid closed but could only be unlocked with key.
Hard to say, but the motors themselves are not the cheapest of parts and they're usually buried pretty good (fair amount of labor involved). I know that I lived with a noise a wiper motor was making when I was quoted a similar amount on one of my cars.
Thanks but this is not just a noise the actual wiper motor died.First at high speed it would stop during a very bad downpour so I just used the lower speeds and rain x,lol. Then the relay switch kicked out , it recharged overnight, worked again for awhile, thought I dodged a bullet until one day it just stopped working altogether. When the relay switch or breaker (whatever it's called) did not recharge I knew I had a problem .So i took it to a garage and they said it was the wiper motor. But i guess if there is a fair amount of labor involved that must be why the price is so high cause a motor online is only 75.00 cdn
As for the CEL i'm not sure what you mean. But if anyone else has problems with the power window swithch, i know the answer. My husband changed the switch alot of times and at over 65 dollars each, bad idea. Well its not the switch, its the wiring plug that runs to the switch. the wiring comes loose and just needs to be replaced. Go to a junk yard and get another switch it, splice the wires the same way they are and plug your switch in. Works like a charm. It only costed us about 5 bucks.
Hello, my girlfriend just bought a 2000 Mercury cougar, after a few days we cracked the window for a little airflow and when we tried to put the window up it would not work from either the passenger switch or the drivers side master switch. We tried pushing up on the window to get it to slide up and it was not budging. The window can go down further from either switch just not up.. after a couple days it was going to rain so we frantically tried to get the window to go up. Finally after some trial and error if the Drivers side door is cracked open and putting a slight rev on the engine we were able to finally get the window to go up from the drivers side master switch. But what could be the problem, I dont want to go through this every time we want to put the window up. Im thinking it could be the regulator or some power relay but im not sure, not really wanting to shell out the money on a whole new regulator system just to test it out. Thanks in advance
You can get one cheap from rockauto.com or visit a local auto salvage yard and pull apart the driver side door of a cougar and take what you need it should be the cheapest way to get what you want.
Let me know how that works out. autozone.com has a guide on how to install the window regulator and motor if you need one.
im new here i got a 1983 mercury cougar having a problem with my headlight thet wont turn on but the high beams do i foud the fuse for the high beams but not the low beams i see 2 relays that are called cornering relays are those also for the headlights please help
Need some help. I raised the Merc. about 3 inches off the ground by putting (2) 2x8's under each tire. I removed the skirting under the car to get access to the radiator drain plug. I drained the radiator. About (3) quarts was drained. This is a 10 quart system. Any suggestion on how to drain the (7) quarts in the engine block? I was thinking of removing the thermostat and pumping the fluid out with a pump attached to a drill. How do the repair garages do it? Thanks for any suggestions.
