remote will not unlock door

2003 Toyota Camry REMOTE will NOT lock the car doors. It will unlock and open the trunk. I hear a buzzing sound coming from the dash/ engine compartment when I hit the Lock button on the remote. I have to hit the unlock button in order to get it to stop.

    You might check the relay box and see if any relay is marked for the locking system. If it is, you could possibly test that relay by substituting an identical one (if there is an identical one), by matching part #s on the relay.

    Relays can also be tested on the bench--there are many YouTube videos that show you how to do that.

    Relays aren't always bad if they "buzz"--they could be getting too low a voltage to operate properly, due to perhaps a bad ground circuit or excessive resistance due to corrosion in a connector or in the relay box.

    A wiring diagram might be a good help for you, if you know how to read one.

    What do recommend to clean it with? Alcohol rub, light grit sandpaper, or ????

    I swapped out the relay with another one but it is still doing the same thing. When I hit lock, an audible tone comes on. It is coming from the engine compartment neR the front passenger side by the headlights. Cannot tell exactly where. What do you suggest???

    It would really help to have a wiring diagram in order to do a rational diagnosis. With the diagram, you can probe from the voltage source to the door, or back probe from the door module backwards.

    I suppose you could also check for a conspicuous area of damage where the wiring leaves the body and enters into the door.
