Hang in, Bob. The insurance company has lawyers to deal with folks like that. At most you'll pay your deductible, then get reimbursed if they recover the costs.

Go ahead and have your dealer estimate the damage, for now.

Gee Bob, you need to take it easy for a while and toss some salt over your shoulder! Newport is a nice town, I've been there many times over the past 20 years or so. It's really gotten to be quite the tourist town.

Pat, glad you caught that old pady before she wrecked your car. I hate parking lots!

Hang in there... Hopefully, insurance will take care of the situation.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
that's awful. I hope it works out for you.

Juice- I dunno what it is about kids from Russia getting boring anglican names. What's wrong with the name they have? I knew someone who adopted a little girl from St. Petersburg; This kid went from Anastasia to........

    Avery. Yeeesh.

Well anyways, I hope everyone had a good weekend; I know I did. Just getting over this cold that Bob now has.

Ooh ooh, wait I have story I forgot to tell you all from 2 weeks ago...

Out of the blue, just after finishing up loading out of a gig on Charles Street, I got decked by this random guy. He walked past us (about 5 of us) turned around, came back and sucker-punched me in the jaw. The band and the staff tackled him and held him until the cops came. Dude swore I was someone who assaulted him in Arlington VA.
The last time I was in Arlington was 1990 for a visit to the cemetary! I told him that. He'd already, er, met my friends and wife, and their respective soles and elbows, and I told him I'm 33 and married and never seen him before. He honestly couldn't believe it.

I ended up not pressing charges; he looked pathetic sitting there in cuffs, looking at me trying to figure out how I wasn't the right guy. In retrospect, I maybe should have sent him packing. It hurt pretty bad for a couple of days, and even now isn't totally healed. He's active duty too, can you believe that?

I'm lucky though I guess. Got all my teeth, nothing broken. And I've never been hit or been in a fight before, so chalk this up as an interesting introduction to fisticuffs.

I never saw it coming, laid me right out with a full right hander.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Loosh, that's terrible. I would have pressed charges, however. Glad you're OK.

    Bob
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
Dang Loosh, that would really hurt.
    Hope you feel better.

    Bob-
that guy is on active duty. He's probably getting court marshal anyways.

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I would've beat his [non-permissible content removed], then not pressed charges. Then again I've had a punch thrown at me before. If there was any talking or you saw him approaching...

...Anyway after the fact I don't care what their story is. They're getting whipped or they're going to jail.

    Glad you weren't seriously hurt.

I expected some news about everyone's holiday adventures, but nothing like these stories!

"Feel better" to the people with the flu and those nursing accident wounds, "good luck" to those traveling to distant places to meet face to face with the most incredible treasure ever, and everyone else "take a moment" to protect yourselves and your Subarus. We seem to need a moment to reconnoiter. The bumps and bruises around here seem like a statistical impossibility.

was much more quiet for me thankfully (no pun intended).

Bob - Sorry to hear you shared your rear ender luck with the family.

Loosh - Yikes! FWIW, I think your reaction was very honorable. Maybe your tolerance will rub off on the guy and he'll think twice about throwing that punch in the future.

I went down like a bag of rocks, I never saw it coming. Really stunning. By the time I got up he was already plenty uncomfortable ;-)
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
It constantly amazes me the gall of some people nowadays. I'm glad you had some friends close by to offer...force...to give this idiot a clue. Sheesh. Even if you didn't press charges, at least a strong suggestion for him to take some anger management classes would have been appropriate. Of course, if he had any kind of smarts to begin with he would have the sense not to attack someone who has friends and family present.
  • rangnerrangner Member Posts: 336
This is a crazy world full of crazy people!
    Glad you're ok

Hope your jaw is alright, and I totally agree with Colin had it been me he would not have walked scot free, in my younger and fitter days I probably would have beaten the crap out of him now I would have no hesitation in pressing charges.

There is no excuse for what he did and needs to have a strong message to that effect.

      Cheers Pat.

I've bumped into unsavory sorts a few times, and I've either seen them repeatedly myself --I kinda hang out downtown fairly often, and this town isn't that big--or after the fact have heard officers mention that they know the individual responsible.

So in my opinion, it's often not an isolated incident and perhaps the person should be cooling off in county for 30 days or more. Hold people accountable for their actions!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You kept a pretty cool head not to press charges. I'd have booked him and then gone after his family. ;-)

You must have a twin in Alexandria. Still, the guy should have confronted you. To sucker punch someone like that is just plain cowardly.

Finally broke down thsi past weekend and took a test drive in the Forester XT 5MT while getting some service done. All I can say is "Wow!". It has the responsiveness of the WRX, but more subtley. In the WRX, I felt & heard the turbo kick in; in the Forester I heard it, but it was more at the low end. I like the way it repsonds better than the WRX. Now I want to wait and see how the new Legacy handles. Then, I just have to "sell" my wife on upgrading. BTW, by doing the test drive I also was able to send in for the Subaru Winter kit. Hopefully in time for the 48hrs run.

drive them back-to-back! the XT romps all over the WRX down low. :)

Was it the black one in Flemington? If so, I made sure to break it in for you. ;-)

  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
    Dennis-
Yes, it was the black one. That may explain the mileage (485) on it.

Colin- If I drove both back to back, I may come home from the dealer with a new Forester - something I am trying to avoid at the moment. That's why I'm really curious about the new Legacy/OB coming out. Then, maybe...

Wouldn't you just know it, I bought a 6Cd changer from a guy in BC, when it got here it was dead on arrival, had been dropped, the face plate was half off of the thing, the pins that face plate connects to are broken right off the circuit board.

The bright light in this is the guy says ship it back and he will refund my money, but I am disappointed.

      Cheers Pat.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
My thought was this- I'm fine, no real harm done, and if the guy is a little looney (which he seemed to us to be), then the charges give him focus. My address, phone number, etc.

If I'd really been hurt than I sure as hell would have sent him packing.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Bummer, Pat, at least the seller is being cool. Did he have shipping insurance? It probably wasn't packaged properly.

I bought both my 6CD changers locally, that's precisely the reason why. I'm lucky to have a big local market, though.

Loosh, what's this guys name... "All I need is a name, I don't know you, you don't know me, we never spoke" (great SNL skit)

I hear that the Secaucus swamps are BEAUTIFUL this time of year, they'll never find him there hee hee.

That was horrible! I'm glad you have such a great attitude about it. I would have filed charges - just because he's nuts, but, maybe I'm a bit more paranoid.

That guy was lucky you're the kind of person that can forgive so readily!

    Patti
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
well like I said, if he'd done more damage it would have been a lot different. He got roughed up, and a good talking to by the officers, including a reminder that a) going to Central Booking at 3 a.m. Sunday means you are spending 2 nights, not one. and b) the fun really starts when your CO finds out.

I think he got the message.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
juice it would have been my preference to buy local, but there just isn't any around here so I have to go further afield, don't know if he had it insured or not, anyway it will work out I hope.

      Cheers Pat.

That time of the year again! :) X-Mas is just 'round the corner... So, what you want Santa to stuff your stocking with this year?

Since it's only 23 days away, the all-new Legacy/Outback is still off limits, unless of course you live in Oz-land, or in some other markets where it is currently on sale. <sigh>

Oh, and try and keep it to $100K or less, as we're still not out of this recession yet.

    My picks:

    * A silver STi with silver wheels ($31K)
    * A loaded-to-the-gills, any-color-will-do Nissan Armada 4x4 LE (~$45K)
    * A black/onyx 5-speed Baja turbo ($24K)

    Total = $100K

GMC 2500HD 4wd SLT Crewcab, SWB, Duramax ~$38K
    Goodies for the GMC, $5K
    STi ~$29K
    '05 Legacy Turbo or H6 GT ~$26K
    Goodies for the subies ~$2K

    $100K total

Loosh, at least it'll be a great story to tell your grankids one day. Of course by then, you'll have been hanging the guy out a window by his ankles when the cops arrived!

Loosh: Santa will reward your restraint. Next time, duck. And get ahold of your evil twin, wherever he is, & tell him to behave himself! :)
Glad nothing broke, jaw fractures are no fun.

    Cheers!

$30,000 -- 2005 Subaru Legacy Turbo. I'm giving more slush than paisan, but 26k would be nice! If I have money left I get 16" wheels with snows.

    $11,000 -- 2004 Yamaha R1. 180HP and 370lb, that's gotta be better somehow than my current 150HP / 390lb sportbike. LOL

hmm that leaves $59,000. let me hit autotrader real quick.

...ok I'm back. And last, I choose a Porsche 911 (993 body) Carrera 4 coupe. Looks like they go about $50k for reasonable mileage.

I'll take whatever's left to get a used truck. For all I need, $2k could buy a good truck!

Bob did say the '05 Legacy/Outback was off limits for us Yanks. ;-)

'04 XT MT - black, $24k with goodies
    '04 E55 AMG - black or silver, $80k

I know that takes me $4k over, but I've been good Santa! :-)

lose the title of most activity to the Lincoln support group? Man.

We have been run hard and are all exhausted, but you couldn't beat the smile off my face! What a terrific baby & a wonderful travel group. I will post more in a few hours, but I have to take Emily & Annilise down for some food & let mommy have some peace.

Juice: I will give it a try later tonight.

as in therapy or recovery. This is the well-adjusted Crew!

So the '05 is off-limits, eh? bummer.

Then I'll take an XTMT for $26k (Ain't no $24k ones in these parts) plus $3000 for the JDM STi suspension and say another $2k for rims and tires. $31k total.

Then I need small and open top...Z4 please, with the 3.0l. $40k

Track car....I'm not too picky, there's a bizillion affordable ones in the back of autoweek, maybe a spec-Miata, or even a used WRX. I'll devote $15,000 to the endeavor, since I won't be able to get out there too much.

That leaves $14k for a beater truck, trailer for the track, and a late 60's Volvo P1800 ES restoration project.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I was figuring the XT at invoice (with a few goodies) since I have the IMBA membership. ;-)

I'd have put an '05 Legacy on my list as well

    -Brian
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Mike & Colin! No '05 Legacys, unless you're planning to to move to Oz, or elsewhere, where they are "currently" on sale.

Sorry guys, that was part of the ground rules. :(

Since it's only 23 days away, the all-new Legacy/Outback is still off limits, unless of course you live in Oz-land, or in some other markets where it is currently on sale. <sigh>

Next year, once they're on sale here, they will be fair game.

I'm with Steve (fibber) on this one - our new baby is the best Christmas present we could ask for, even though he came before Thanksgiving, much less Christmas. ;-)

As for a fantasy garage, I'd just like to upgrade my physical one. I'd like a new (i.e., level and uncracked) cement floor coated with one of those nice spill-resistant paints, some rubber mats to stand on while working, more and better overhead and task lighting, and more ways to get stuff off the floor and onto the walls and shelves. This will probably translate into buying some pegboard at a home improvement store and nailing it to the walls come spring.

If I wanted to go whole hog I'd have someone dig a hole in the floor so I could go under the cars and do oil changes and maintenance without requiring a creeper. There's loft space in our garage so a lift is out of the question.

As for cars I'd have to say I must be hitting full midlife crisis. I've found myself interested in getting one of my favorites from childhood - a Porsche 911E, T or S of 1969-72 vintage. Of course I should probably drive one before I succumb to that fantasy. I can wait a while for another Subaru as I hope calendar 2004 will bring improvements to the XT and a successful launch of the new Legacy line.

    Congratulations!!!

Here's a big coincidence. I think I mentioned to you that my wifes cousin adopted a girl from China about 4-5 years ago ...... her name is Anelise. Her birthplace was Chong Qing. Is that anywhere near Annilise was born?
