One of my "lotto" oddball cars is a V8 luv. Not a fan of the custom bed. Stepside is OK, the rear is bad. And interior could be cleaner. and of course, needs a manual trans. Other than that, I luv it!

The stained, dirty interior of the Cabrio, yuck. The Grand Wagoneer and Land Cruiser are demanding crazy money. I could see having some fun (within limitations) with the C126. Nice color of blue.

I could live with a Cabrio like that for the money. But of course it is white. Much nicer in say dark blue.

and odd that for a car the size of the Town Car, the usable trunk space is pretty skimpy.

That's a joke about the Cabrio, yes? Pretty good for $1500.

If I found a clean running manual cabrio like that by me for that money I would snap it up. Cheap fun to annoy my wife!

I had one of those barge Continentals... that trunk is huge. If you take the carpet off there is tons of room to the left and right of the tire as well.

I like the Z34 as well. I understand the 3.4 DOHC was fragile and expensive to repair. I preferred the Olds Cutlass International 2dr of the same year. Dad's 95 Ciera SL had the 3.1. It did its job and was reliable but was a real groaner.

Falcon Sprint is my pick. You can keep the rest.

Funny thing, when I looked at the first pic of that one I thought it would be a decent choice. But the interior pics reminded me of how much I disliked what Ford did with that design, from the cheap looking dash and instruments to the oversized and misplaced interior door handles.
I picked the Falcon because it was the only car that I found interesting. I didn't look at the details like you guys did.

Went to the low end local auction this morning - typical menagerie of BHPH rejects, donations/estate cars, probable abandoned vehicles, etc. The highlights (pics taken from auction site):

E34 M5, now somewhat collectible after a long time being ignored. It was a hot mess. Young BMW bro was checking it out - he lifted the hood, took a peek, closed it and walked away. Interior was just as great with lots of handpainted blue trim:

    image

Had some miles but not in bad shape:

    image

Not many places other than a specialized scrapyard with two of these in the same location:

    image

    image

Of course I was a moth to a flame for this. Finishing its second trip around the clock, maintenance book full of dealer service stamps, sold new at the local dealer 25 and a half years ago:

    image

Oxidized but not in bad shape overall, too bad no real upside:

Worse than it looks, parts car:

That LS400 does seem like a great deal. The '72 Monte Carlo looked good, until I saw no a/c, and a pretty steep price.

The colors on the Monte are nice, but in addition to the lack of A/C, the filthy/worn condition under the hood and the dent in the right rear quarter panel weigh against the asking price.

Not if It's because 8 foot beds are rare nowadays, but the wheelbase on the F150 looks really long.

nice, honest Ford PU. back when hoods were lower, cabs were small, and beds were big.

There was a new F150 parked on my street last weekend. Huge grille and tall hood, cab the size of a checker cab, and a bed the size of my kids little tykes red wagon. All dimensions approximate.

    @stickguy,
If you can't fit it in the bed, just put it in the trailer, problem solved.
BTW, I sat in my nephew's new to him 2014 Sierra HD(2500).
It was kind of claustrophobic inside compared to my 3 years newer F150.

Highline fintail gets middling bids and fails to sell on BaT

Bids were weak for this car, but I think the divider and front bench hurt it. This is the ne plus ultra of fintails, top of the line and limited production. High complexity led to low survival rates, and only ~1500 were made in a 3 year period. This was an expensive car when new, crossing 10K, maybe a hard sell in some markets for a car with a <200 cubic inch I6.

As it wasn’t originally built for the American market it’s no surprise it has manual transmission and doesn’t have a/c. It does puzzle me a bit that a car so exclusive doesn’t have electric windows in the rear passenger area.

On a separate subject, I was always amused that dad’s top of the line ‘75 Renault 30 V6 had power windows up front and crank windows in the rear.

Manual is pretty uncommon for these, and lack of AC is normal - AC wasn't a factory option yet, rather dealer installed. It is kind of surprising the supposed original owner didn't spring for it.

The power/manual window mix seems to have been a thing in Europe for some time. I think maybe the fronts were electric for ease of use at toolbooths.

It continues to amaze me that a lot of sellers make little effort to clean up their car before taking pictures. I suspect there is a lot more wrong with the 98 BMW than needing a water pump and hoses. That poor Eldo has the dreaded headgasket, head bolt stretching issue that plagued so many NorthStar engines. A very expensive repair.

There was a comment left there from the son of someone who had the car in their storage facility for a while. Aside from his confessing to taking the car out for rides with his buddies when he wasn't supposed to be using it, he mentioned that it had a lot of unresolved problems at that time. He assumes they have now been addressed, but I dunno. That could not have helped.

What worry me is all that fresh undercoat and the seller stating that the rust was undercoated. Does that mean that the rust was just covered over but not repaired???

My office is starting to look like an auto parts warehouse! I have lots of projects on my plate over the next few weeks! Most will be a holiday weekend activity, but hopefully I can get a few of them done prior.

And, can you believe it? I managed to get all of this, plus three boxes of oil/lubricants into the trunk of the Focus. Shocking.

I always thought the GM aeroback's looked a bit weird, but that means there probably aren't many survivors so it may have some value down the road. On the flip side, the younger generation often don't seem as nostalgic for old cars they grew up with. So who knows about potential buyers I suppose.

Something is getting a front end rebuild. :)

    \
    Multiple maintenance items.

    1. Converting the front brakes on my '69 E100 to disc. That is the purpose of those rotors; the calipers are in the brown box on the rear right.

    2. New struts on the 2013 Forester, along with adjustable front and rear lower stabilizers on the rear suspension. With my HD springs, it pushes the camber a little too far to the outer edge of the tires, and they wear poorly. So, figured if I am going to put new tires on it soon, I might as well kill two birds with one stone here.

    3. Finishing the prep work on the 2008 Focus I bought for a friend of mine. New struts, engine mounts, accessory belt/tensioner, and miscellaneous annual work. It should be "zero needs" when he gets it.

As it sits, the trunk lid closes up... no problem! :)

That goofy generation focus is supposed to be quite a good car. Cheap, too, as it's generally unloved. The trunk lid linkage blows my mind; afaik even the E class Benz gave that up...
