Fibber/Steve, it took me overnight to figure out it was the Mars background. Looked too much like the high desert at dusk in southern Idaho for me to make the NASA connection.

I'm a NASA junkie, and it still took me a good 10 seconds before it hit me! I had actually closed it, and then suddenly started to laugh.

Serge and Susan: best wishes to you from the Left Coast!

Loosh: FUNNY! Marketing suggestion: Subaru Mars Roving Edition: equipped with spacesuits and extra tank of oxygen to breath. And when you finally meet those little green people, don't forget to tell them about special financing rates available on all 2004 models!

Do you mind if I share it with some of my co-workers for their wallpaper. I'm sure it will bring a smile to the Reps. on the phones. I won't do it without your permission.

    Thanks for the fine chuckle!

Check out the finalists for R&T's reader's choice awards:

    http://roadandtrack.com/

    Vote, people! :o)

Back at home, a little tired but quite happy after a very successful trip. Like I mentioned before, we should be able to have a special guest or two at a future chat.

I think we definitely succeeded in representing the Edmunds.com Subaru Crew in a very positive manner, probably asking the most questions and leaving the possibility for future events wide open.

Our hosts were gracious and let me say a big Thanks to SoA, who really knows hospitality, and also seems to treat their employees very well. In fact, that was almost a theme, seems SoA is a wonderful place to work!

Go ahead Patti. It was created by someone at NASIOC and the link posted by him for general subaru enthusiast use.

So now my wife wants a Legacy GT sedan. Turbo scoop and all. :-)

No fair, it was my turn to get the new car! More therapy required! Where's Ross?

The Fence is alive and well, too. The Legacy might take a few people off, though.

    Welcome back!

Hey Juice.. any indication on when the Legacy Turbo would hit the dealers lots?

PS-Good info by the way... thanks ;-)
  • goneskiiangoneskiian Member Posts: 381
Welcome back Juice! We kept your seat warm for ya! Why is it that I've got more than one fence? There's this Volvo fence intersecting the Subaru fence right where I'm sitting! LOL!

Where is Ross? I could use some counseling on delayed gratification, patience and enjoying what I have while I pursue what I want. ;-)

Production should start in March for 2.5i, April for OB, May for GT, at least that's what one of the reps thought.

I am a little more firmly on The Fence. I love the XT, but the GT looks awesome now, and my wife is already sold on the idea of a GT. I just have to convince her it'll be MINE.

    Mine. Mine mine mine mine...

PS Wife actually asked if I could buy that B9 Scrambler concept from Subaru. Seriously. She wanted to buy the concept itself! I'd settle for one drive, and then a production model later to replace the Miata!

Thanks a lot for allowing us to enjoy the Legacy introduction vicariously. You guys did a great job. My appetite for the new Legacy has been whetted even more. It seems like Subaru put a lot of thought into the packaging of this car for the North American market. Kudos to them, and you guys, too. Way to go!

I'd like to get once it's warm. Maybe for Job 1 on the GT turbo? If it really is May, that could be good. Opinions?

I forgot about the chat tonite. Sitting at work wishing for a customer or something to do and forgot all about the something to do. Darn CRS just gets worse and worse.

I was actually working tonight at work so couldn't get to the chat.

SIA tour is in the works. I'll have a webpage up as soon as Patti and I work out the details etc. It will probably be similar to my 48hrs site. http://AZPInstalls.com/48hrs-04 I figure I'll do the paypal hotel thing again if people want to have a no-brainer reservations thing.

    mike/(Patti?),

Just a thought, but you might want to check if SIA has a good corporate rate locally. Companies often establish an arrangement with a local hotel.

Welcome home, juice and Bob! I have enjoyed your reports and can't wait to see some photos.

Mucho kudos to Patti and SOA!

I think it is women who may be the biggest impediment to wagon sales over SUV sales. I have a feeling they really want to avoid a childhood association between full time motherhood and the family station wagon. I was reminded of this again last night when Juice said Lana wanted a GT sedan. Mike Smith is having the same problem- he wants the next family car to be a GT wagon, but his wife wants an A4 sedan. Not an Avant either. I tried to email some sense into her but she told me I was a loony. :-))

the comparison isn't totally fair since both women currently pilot Legacy wagons in some form or other, but I think it's interesting they both want out.

We love our Forester, but my wife has frequently been complaining about the soccer mom image. And it doesn't help that 90% of the other Foresters we see on the road are driven by older people (it's really true around here, surprisingly).

Personally, I think her silver Forester looks hip, young, and cool, and I drive it without any issues. Still, she would probably jump on a Legacy sedan. I'd rather have a wagon, but that will be a tough sell.

Me, I'm going to keep my current Outback wagon for a long time!! I can't complain at all, and I like the idea of having an older, broken in wagon that I can use without reservation. I'd love a new GT wagon, but would have a tough time using such a beautiful car as my daily driver and weekend project car. The Outback is to the point where it's like a comfortable set of shoes. I just get in and go, no hassles.

We can do that. I'm thinking of putting together a package with T-shirts and what not and offering that for 2x the cost of the items, then taking the extra $ and donating it. That way folks can have "1st Annual SIA National Subaru Meet" shirts and at the same time a charity will get some $. We need to find a charity that is auto-oriented and will embrace the idea. Shoot me e-mails or post up here if you guys have ideas.

My wife went through that phase in the last decade. She had a 626 when we got married;got tired of getting small kids in and out of car seats in a 626, got a MPV;got tired of the minivan image , got a Mazda 929; got tired of needing the room for the kids and the dog, got a Ford Explorer; got tired of the SUV image and dog-performance, got an A6 sedan, specifically rejecting the A6 Avant; now, four years later, she's decided the A6 sedan was a bad choice and wants a station wagon in the family. After 15 years of driving her cast-offs, while she got progressively nicer wheels, ...we're getting a station wagon , a Legacy GT Limited, for ME to drive! She can have it when Subaru brings the B9 to market :-)!

Beth drove our F-150 for years, so she sees little appeal in SUV's & that sort of vehicle as daily transportation. So in 1990, when I was shopping sedan, she pushed for a wagon. Her top choices were the Camry & the new for 1990 Legacy. (yes, a woman ahead of her time....). When we got Emily in 1996, she said minivan, and it had to have sliders on both sides (hence we got a Dodge GC, then the Windstar, now the Odyssey). When I suggested Pilot, she insisted on the Odyssey.

Now unfortunately, she has never warmed up to my OBW. Likes the styling, but she cannot get comfortable behind the wheel. Her build vs. the seats. Everyone is different...

image is part of what people like. for some more than others.

doesn't make it wrong, but it does make it hard to understand for those who don't place much value in image.

Welcome back. Sounds like you had a good time and thanks for all the investigative work while you were there!

So how cold was it in Detroit? I'll be packing my bag this weekend.

Any thing you wanted me to follow up on while I was there? I'll check on the 2.5i engine as mentioned earlier.

Did you get a photo of the underside of the GT? I was curious about the dual exhaust if it was just a y-split.

    Ken
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
bet it is, aft of where it comes over the rear axle. wouldn't surprise me if it were one muffler with two tips.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It could be 2 resonators criss-crossed like the 350z. Or similar to the SVX across the back. :)

  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
Euro and JDM split at the rear axle and each pipe ends with a muffler and a short tip. I've seen several pictures of the setup. Here's a link to one: http://www.subaru-global.com/lineup/legacy/sedan/technology/ Not sure if US spec is the same though.

Well, last night my wife was talking and mentioned "her" Outback. She has been driving it more than I have leaving me the Sienna. That's OK since she is more secure in it during bad weather (I think the ice covered roads we had earlier this week proved to her the ability of the OB). Funny, I like the image I portray driving the OB, but, don't care what people think when I am in the Sienna. Anyway, at this rate I'll have a good excuse to get my own 05, Silver, 5MT (6MT?) GT Sedan.

Yep, that's ours, Dave. Looks sweet, too.

I did take pics and will upload them if I can ever catch up!

It's blistering cold with a chilling breeze and random dustings of snow, Ken. What can I say? My face nearly froze, bring a hat and gloves and some kind of scarf too!

My wife's wagon purchase was well documented here, and her practical side will admit is was the right choice. But still, what she WANTS is a sedan. We just need a wagon, or something practical for a family of 4 plus a nanny and a cat.

    I mean, dog. :o)

It's funny, though, she saw the little model car they gave us, a Silver B4 sedan, and loved it. So a little Tchotsky that cost Subaru a couple of bucks pretty much made up her mind to buy a $30k vehicle on the spot.

    Not a bad investment, eh?

Except for me it backfired, I wanted the 7 seater before her new car!

Thanks to Juice & Bob for representing us at the show; and thanks to Patti & SOA for bringing them out.

I'm curious what the differences are going to be between the GT and the Outback- is it all cosmetic?

    Mark
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, we saw that Outback chassis. The tires, for one, are 225/55R17s. Same dual exhaust, but hooked up to the H6 engine.

Pics are coming to Future Models now...

For a long time we were a two car family and one of them was always a hatchback or a wagon, obviously neither one of us ever had an image problem.

We both always haved loved and appreciated the utility and versatility of the hatchback and wagons, now that we can only afford to run one car it will always be a wagon.

      Cheers Pat.

       Cheer Pat.

Thanks for the food and clothing tips, juice! I'll remember to pack warm clothes. It's not often I get to wear my full winter coat out West.

My brother and I have reserved a Volvo Cross Country wagon from Hertz so we're set on the AWD. Too bad they didn't list Subarus.

Thanks for the exhaust pics. Two mufflers! That's better than I thought!

XC doesn't handle all that well, but the roads were so pot-holed that the minivan cab we took to the hotel felt like it would break in half.

Even the Crown Vic we took back to the airport felt like the pot holes would eat it alive. Not a city for 17" rims!

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
It hovered around 11 degrees when we were there.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
it felt like 11 degress Kelvin at night with the breeze.

One cool thing Subaru did was project a HUGE logo on the side of our Hotel, it was cool. Jamie got pix but I haven't seen them on-line yet.

Since my wife needs wagons and hatchbacks for the cello, and find sedans pointless, ATC.

You buy what you want and drive what you want, right home to an empty house and pay-per-view!

:D sorry sorry, I had to go there. Geez....
