Wife's '01 Forester (143K) suffered a head gasket problem. Wasn't worth fixing. Sold it to CarMax last Friday and just picked up a new '13 Sage Green Forester Premium w/AWP.

Congrats Bob! Sage Green isn't like that sea foam light green, is it?

Believe it or not, I've never had any luck posting images here. Must be Edmunds-challenged...

Nothing yet Bren. Thinking about taking it off the market, and put it back on in the spring when there are more buyers.

Not sure Tom. It's sort of a silver-green. Looks good.

Hmmm, my OBW is 14 years old with 123,000 miles. I've been waiting "forever" for direct injection with a 6 spd gearbox. Sure wish our Tribeca was towable behind the motor home.

I love the sage; it has always been one of my favorites. We ended up with Paprika mostly because it had the dark interior. My terrors kids do enough of a number on the dark stuff...!

I'm glad to see they finally pulled Paprika for 2013. I like not seeing myself everywhere I go. The deep cherry that replaced it looks pretty slick; I look forward to seeing it in person. That's one of the best things about the "Magenta" color on my Fiesta; it was a 2011 offering only.

Oh, and while I feel terribly let down about the photo, I understand the challege. Edmunds can be a bit of a nightmare for photo posting. (Seriously!) ;)

I saw one this weekend. Nice color Bob! Much better than seafoam or lime green!

    Hope she likes it.

I think you can pre-order now for the next gen WRX. . . ;)

The 2013 looks very attractive, but my DW keeps reminding me that we said 'No More New Cars'. CPO until the kids are out of college. That means I need to hold on until 2016 to snag one!

My old girl still looks and drives well. 99,920 miles today. Next week she'll be 11 years old.

Lets see if this photo link works:

Checking into getting a trailer hitch. The Subaru unit is expensive, but is a very neat install. Aftermarket units are much cheaper, but as with most aftermarket stuff, not nearly as satisfying—especially when it comes to the wiring. The Subaru unit is tucked up under the rear bumper (so you never see it), and they have to cut a notch in the bumper skin for the hitch receiver. It's a very neat and tidy install—and no sloppy wiring issue to deal with. All the aftermarket units hang below the bumper, and the wiring can be kind if iffy.

On our old Forester, the wiring harness came out of the access panel for the left tail light (inside the car), and you had to slam the hatch on it, which I hated. None of the aftermarket hitch people could tell me how they are going to handle the wiring; so, I'm thinking of biting the bullet, and having the dealer do it.

:) Not for a while, I'm afraid... I've been told it may be a '15 model, and not a '14 model.

Fib, how'd you post that image? I've tried and can't get it to work.

How large in KB can the image be?

I'm not sure there is a size limit, but you must have it hosted somewhere, like Facebook or Photobucket first and, if you want the image to fit, just input the link like this:
-image tag- URL width=540 height=410 -close image tag-

Height and width would be opposite if the photo is oriented as portrait rather than landscape.

Steve, that's a sharp looking Outback! I saw a golden-brown one a few weeks ago at Home Depot. It was an H6 version, leather, double moonroof, etc. The thing was gorgeous! It looked like it just came off the showroom floor. The guy who owned it came out as we were leaving, so I chatted him up for a minute and complimented him on the car. He said, "You think this is nice? You should see my 1990 Legacy!" Original owner, of course. He proceeded to load it up with a couple doors and various odds and ends. I would have never known the car to be used from the way he cared for it. :shades:

Anyhow, I love the green on your car. That and the deep red they had that year (didn't they? I know they had it in '00) were quite striking.

The OEM is tucked better, but is also a Class II. Given the cost, you're paying quite a bit for a little tuck!

I just prefer the beefier Class III unit. When I use my cargo tray, I feel much more secure with the load being held up by the larger unit. The T-connector kits generally indicate to keep them in the car and slip them out the bottom of the gate when you need them, but I have mine mounted externally using one of the rubber plugs in the bottom of the spare tire tray. I pulled the plug, threaded the unit out the bottom, zip-tied it onto the trailer hitch (with a metal zip), and then split the plug, slipped it around the wiring, and caulked it. You could also fish it down through the bumper shell (from inside the car just over, or through, the frame rail) but I didn't feel like getting that fancy. Mine's been external for two years now with no problems, even though I don't pull the trailer much (mostly just use the hitch-mounted tray).

Hey my OBW hangs out at Home Depot also! As you can see, the car is incredibly clean. The inside is just as nice.

Trying out another way to post. In the above post the photo shows, but it also links back to photobucket and all my albums. This approach only posts a link, but it also only opens the single photo.

    http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t456/Fibber2/My%20Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0247.- - - - - jpg

Each forum handles this stuff so differently, it gets very confusing. I'm not sure how to do the sizing trick, Wes, as when I hit paste, all I see is the photo and not the code. I guess I need to insert that prior?

And to do documents like .pdf versions of TSB's, I had to get a hosting site. I'm building a library over on one of the Toyota forums.

    OK, experimentation time....

Edit: Wow, is that convoluted to get it properly sized! Took 4 tries. Guess I'm just an internet dummy. Should have asked my 16 year old for help!!!

nope ... I have tried a number of times and I think I've only been successful a couple....it's very difficult on edmunds to post a pic

Ahh, I was told by Joe that I could pre-order a WRX if I didn't want the BRZ and that it would be available next year. He was saying it might be based on the BRZ platform rather than the current Impreza line.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

It's quite an ordeal to post a pic here. :(

I agree! Even when I (think I) do everything the same, it doesn't always work the first try. Steve - I also agree on the sizing quirks. I should have noted that those sizing specs were based on my own photos. But, I would think most digital cameras should have the same basic settings. I guess some may be moving to the 16x9 aspect ratio now that most monitors are using that format.

I often insert height=400 width=600" in the code for the pic ULR (inserted after the last quote in the string). That often works without skewing the pic.

Sometimes it's just easier to link to a photo on your hosting service (like Flickr) or upload it to tinypic.com and grab the URL from there.

I am officially giving up on trying to post photos on this site. I have tried tinypic and imageshack to post pics here.

juice asked me to post Pics of the katzkin leather I installed in the Mazda. They show in the preview of the post but are missing when I actually post. This has got to be the most cumbersome and antiquated site to post photos. Any other site it is just a matter of posting the link to the photo.

I did manage a couple of months ago to post pics of my Mazda3 GT, but using the same procedure no luck.

    Cheers Pat.

One thing I notice is that if you use the preview function, often the image tag information deletes itself upon post. If you edit and re-paste the tag info, then post without preview, it comes through. :confuse:

Oh, and I lied before.... the dimensions are width=560 length=410. Previously I said 540/410.

I always knew that you couldn't be trusted, Wes!! Gave me the wrong numbers just to ruin my pretty pix. Well, I can see the unfilled knot holes in that beautiful bunk bed you undoubtedly made by hand. So there!!!

    G'day

Well seeing you are so clever, do you want to come down-under and assemble some Ikea furniture?

That looks fabulous. Who gets the top bunk?

    Cheers

Tough 24 hours in the NE. The standby generator is really getting a workout! I was out on the driveway (we live about 500 ft off the road) at 5:30 this morning clearing down brush as school and work goes on despite some closed roads and dark homes.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Ack! My secret is out!

As for knot holes, I much prefer not to fill them if possible. It makes finishing the wood more difficult, but I think the overall result is better. So there! :D

I would love to go down under! Not so much to assemble furniture, but I'd do it if necessary!

My eight-year-old son gets the top and five-year-old daughter has the bottom (yes, this whole bunk bed thing is a temporary arrangement, sadly enough). They started using it Monday night and are just giddy about it. Curiously, they still manage to go to sleep well. I still need to build the ladder for the top bunk, but we're pushing winter here, and my wife wanted me to get the bulk of the finishing work done while we could still heavily ventilate without making the house an icebox!

Their bedroom is the first room in the house that is (now officially) finished. Only 1,700 square feet left to go!

It didn't take long for your investment to start earning its keep! Of course, there are drawbacks to that....

We had some heavy winds (for here - probably 35-40 mph gusts) over the weekend. One particularly strong gust caught a healthy birch just right and twisted the top of it clean off! The 25' or so of tree that separated, which was probably 8" through at the point it splintered, landed only 15-20' away from a car I am storing for a friend who passed away a few months ago. That was a little nerve-wracking.

Dozens of trees came down in the area, but we didn't lose power at all. I was surprised at that. In Anchorage, they had the same windstorm blow through at double the intensity a couple days prior, and it tore stuff up big time - even knocking trees over (root systems and all!) in bulk.

    Congrats, Bob.

Now of course you realize the new one will come with a 240hp turbo that runs on 87 octane and has torque vectoring and can tow 5000 lbs without trailer brakes plus it'll cost $3000 less.

    :D
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Wow Wes, that's really nice! And it's only temporary???

But how does your son get up to the top bunk? ;)

on getting the kid in the top bunk ...

I'm picturing some sort of gadget sort of like how the monster catapulted the little girl through the window and into her bed in Young Frankenstein ...

Oooh! That's a good idea! Sadly, it will ultimately be just a mundane step ladder that connects to the rail along the side of the upper bunk (it'll occupy that gap on the left side of the photo next to the safety rail). Right now, we have a 6' utility step ladder set up next to the bed.

When I was saying "temporary," I meant that the both-kids-in-one-room arrangement was temporary. Now, Tom, there comes a point in the development of girls and boys where sharing a room is uncomfortable. Really, must we have this conversation? :P

I'm hoping that one of them will be happy with keeping the bed once we put them in their own rooms.

Well it looks like I can post photos, I am in the process at the minute of covering the cloth inserts on the doors. It is a nerve wrecking exercise as I have to dismantle the panels which are a mixture of screws and melt on rivets. You don't want to screw up a panel that costs close to $500 each

For The door armrests I had an upholsterer make the covers and I installed them

Just waiting on the material from Katzkin and I will get going on them.

    Cheers Pat.

My fellow Subi owners here at work told me that my OBW was now finally broken in, and I could begin to drive it harder! There are 5 nearly identical wagons in our lab (2000, 2002, a pair of 2003, and a 2004), and mine has by far the lowest mileage of the group.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Actually Steve, the seat that was in that Pic I had to remove and reattach the seat cover, if you look closely you can see one panel not completely tight. It bugged me, and would have driven me nuts had I put it in the car.
    It is all good now.

    Pat.

    Didn't notice.:-)
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Well I can tell ya that it is not for the faint of heart that's for sure. I Still have to do the inserts on the door panels to complete the interior. That will be challenging as I have to disassemble the panels in order to cover the cloth with leatherette.

Normally the inserts are removable, but Mazda has to be different and make them part of the door panel. The upholsterer who made the covers for the armrests wanted $175 per panel just to do the inserts, and that was me supplying the material.
So needless to say I was not about to pay that, so I decided to give it a go myself, I did the rest so I thought why not.

    Cheers Pat.

If you go back to my albums you can see the custom paintwork I did on the Mazda engine panels. All the lettering was painted by hand. :)

You must have a heated garage up there (I know your winters are long, lol).

Almost afraid to ask, but are the seats heated? If not, maybe you need to pull the Katz off and install some. ;)
