2007 accord sedan timing chain cover

i have a slight leak in the timing chain cover. this is under warranty. but the mechanic suggests i spring for a new timing chain and valve adjustment since they're going to have it all open to put on the new cover. is this a good investment? the vehicle has 89k on it.

    Four cylinder or V-6?

    like i said, it's a timing chain, so it's a 4cylinder. yes, a warranty is pretty normal for a used car purchase. yes, i got a good deal on it. i guess i'll just look elsewhere for the answer to my question. thanks anyway.

    89K is pretty low mileage for a car to need a timing chain. I've had a dozen Honda products, and never replaced a chain.

    Also, a four cylinder Accord doesn't require valve adjustments. (unlike say, the Honda Fit).

    I don't know how cheap they can do the work, since they have it all open. But, it's not a typical issue for that vehicle.

    no, i know it doesn't need a chain. okay, thank you. appreciate the feedback. everyone is basically saying the same thing. i'm not having this done.

    If it was mine, I would do the chain while I had this apart. There is no regular service interval for them but chain stretch is fairly common and it's not just the mileage consideration it's the time. It is easy to check the stretch on the chain, there is an access plate that can be removed on the front of the timing cover that exposes the tensioner. If the tensioner has extended by more than 13mm then Honda advises replace the chain, guides and tensioner.

    Honda's service information has a curious statement regarding valve adjustments. They want the valve adjustment checked at 100K and "if the valves are noisy adjust them". That's backwards from what it really should say. The natural aging of the valve train will have the valves wear on the faces and into the seats. That means they get tighter (less clearance) as the miles increase, not loose which is where noise comes from. To me the valve adjustment on any mechanical system like this is common practice and takes very little time to do if the valve cover is already off.

    thanks, guys. all good points. i think i'll just have them eyeball these things and offer to pay them a restocking fee if the issues are unwarranted.
