Almost 2K miles on her now without a single problem. Drive over 5 mi of gravel road twice a day that for the last week is more like mud road. Great truck!
This engine has an advanced lubrication system and very close tolerances which allow a higher pressure to be maintained.
Do not forget that you WANT the oil pressure to be available at all times (TOO LOW A PRESSURE MEANS YOUR ENGINE IS IN TROUBLE!!) The pressure maintains constant oil feed to all vital parts including constant 'jets' of oil on underside of pistons and thru the 'trick' hollow camshafts. Additionally, the hydrolic lifters need oil pressure to maintain valve clearances.
The only time I have seen my oil pressure drop below this regulated pressure is at idle when the engine is VERY hot. The thinner oil under these conditions is harder to pump up to pressure at low RPMs. Even under these conditions, the pressure is within the white "safe" area of the gauge.

What you describe will be deliverd to a web browser near you using JAVA. (A programming language)
I know it is possible TODAY using JAVA. (I am lucky enough to make my living being involved with this stuff.) All 'they' have to do is to hire a couple JAVA programmers for a few months.
The JAVA WEB SERVER can be a 64 processor machine, you do not really need that mainframe in your basement.
Look for this technology to be available to your "average user" once the speed of the "average user's" internet connection is slightly faster....
Glad to see so many intelligent responses here - non of those rednecks saying they get 5mpg better mileage with the tailgate down!
They showed that a tonneau reduced wind resistance by about 8%, dropping the tailgate helped slightly (1-2%) and removing the tailgate made it worse.
Incidentally around here a lot of people have taken to dropping their tailgates for another reason. Toronto's first toll road has been open for a couple of years and rumour has it that if you drop the tailgate the cameras can't record the numberplate (they take the back of the vehicle) and hence you get free travel - no idea whether it's true, but a lot of people do it.

Great Site !! I have a 86 el- camino 198k on it and thought I wanted a Z71. I had a Z71 LT all picked out and then I Drove the quad Needless to say I want a Quad!! The chev dealer said he couldn't believe that. I told him This quad has everything and more, His response But its a Dodge, I am sorry I buying A QUAD. Now to the question When I order this truck what is the actual invoice? I went to car direct.com and got a price of a loaded 4x4 plus leather all bells 4.7 auto the only thing That I didnt want was full time 4x4,engine block heater, rear ABS. the invoice price 26,047 plus des, they are offering 1000.0 rebate so can I take off another grand off that price and offer 5% over that. I know I am prob dreaming but please advise.
I have leather buckets in my 01 QC Sport Plus 4x4 and the center console. I have one power outlet in the console, one under the dash (just below the 4WD selector) and the cigarette lighter outlet in the ashtray. I don't recall the extra outlet being an option but maybe it comes with one of the convenience packages???

I won't repost the whole message here, but here's my attempt at a direct link:

Good luck on your purchase!

The only "problem" I've noticed so far is that when I remove the key, the steering wheel won't lock. The owner's manual said it should. I've tried rotating the wheel to get the lock to engage - NOTHING. Has this happened to anyone else?
I guess I can start a "To-Do" List. But, so far, the unlockable wheel will be the only item on it. Not too bad.
The 40-page information package that I bought from http://www.fightingchance.com included a complete "factory price list" for all the different Quad Cab base models and options. It exactly matched what one of the dealers had faxed to me. They also include good-to-know facts like current year sales trends and if any factory-to-dealer hidden incentives exist on the vehicle you're interested in.
you guys never fail to amaze me on what different discourses you'll be talking.bottom line,I've learned some stuff and had some good laughs too.
My quad goes into the body shop for a new headliner .the original was ripped from the factory...otherwise I am happy with my purchase.
keep it coming guys!

Please review the early Dakota forums for this subject.
Good news!
As my Dak saw more miles... the MPG went up and the idle 'hunting' has subsided.
They said that it worked with all of them facing forward but was easier with 2 forward 1 reverse. I have also hauled my Harley Sportster. Of course the tailgate had to be down in all instances.
the price was close to (skylerks) 1800 under invoice.
I cant tell you how good this posts and edumonds multi articles on car buying worked. Saved my family $$$$. Love this truck never thought I would buy a Dodge. But being 39 I grew up around
dodges of the 70s and they were less then impressive to say the least. Kind of like gettin sick on a food and then not trying it ever again.
But the first 200 miles have been great, rides tight and smooth. chevy and ford should wake up, but who cares when you have a dodge dakota.

See my original post # 941. I discovered soon after I bought my truck that my steering wheel didn't lock when in the center position. When I take my truck down for it's first oil change I'll let them know about it.

You wrote some time ago about a rear end howl on your truck. I know the dealership wanted you to wait until you hit 5K, has anything changed? My rearend howl only happens when I'm coasting between 40 and 50 mph. As soon as I give it a little gas, the sound goes away. It's a little different then your problem but it could be realted.

0.9% interest) and I noticed that it seems to have
alot of wind noise (on the highway). Maybe it's
just me, I went from a 99 Honda Accord to this
truck. I really like the truck but the noise is
driving me crazy. I was wondering if anybody else
is having this problem or is it normal for trucks
to be so load inside. I onced owned a new Nissan XE PU and it was alot quietier than this truck.
Thanks for your response. It must have been fun loading that Harley! Please let me know if you get any updates on m/cy hauling in QC. In meantime, I'll be trailering DOT-knobby-equipped XLR 250, Serow-225, and RT180 (Mojave Desert for Thanksgiving--legal trails, of course!)
I wonder if there is a service bulletin on this.

rains. It sometimes continues even after shuting
off the radio and engine.Has anyone else experienced this?
The following is a list of "must have" Mopar accessories purchased so far; (expensive, but worth it):
1. Folding Tonneau cover: secure; easily removed
2. Rubber bed mat: better than a bedliner.
3. Deep Rubber "slosh" floor mats: these should be standard! Forget about the carpeted mats!
4. Rear splash guards: gotta have'em.
5. Ventvisors: a "must-have" in this southern climate. (High humidity year-round).
I agree with traumagas, EDMUND's is a great source for info. and money saving tips. Since there are not too many QC owner's in my area, it is great to know I can log on here and find other great minds. THANKS EDMUNDS!
You are correct, but also very incorrect.
Scientifically speaking, yes, you are very correct. A skidding tire should not be able to stop quicker than a tires held at their threshold. However, you fail to understand that ABS does not do this. At least not efficiently.
I don't have to time, nor patience to go into the physical aspects behind ABS. You should research that yourself since you profess yourself such a scholar.
This argument has more to do with engineering than basic scienceand you need to understand how ABS truly works before you start attacking people on their comments and/or opinions.
After you do that type of research (by the way, I already have) than, please, write back and state what you feel to be more correct than everybody else posting here.
You might be surprised what you find out.
Again, scientifically you correct.
Mechanically, you seem to have no clue.
Numbers don't lie when brought to raw testing and science is not considered. Fact is, ABS has not the stopping power (distance speaking) of typical brakes. Wet or dry.
However, as I said before, is it a Godsend for people who are not comfortable pumping the brakes or using other techniques to maintain the ability to steer. It is a perfect safety feature for such people and I think that people in warmer climates would do well equiping their vehicles with ABS since they are not exposed to such braking techniques on a regular basis.
Would I want most people on the raod to have ABS?... Probably.
Is it for everybody?... No
Is it for me?... Absolutely not
I only have about 1600 miles on my truck so far. No other problems. I'm still waiting for our first good snow out here in CO so I can try out the four wheel drive.
