on looks good also, I think wind noise was decreased but that may be just me.
Questions:
1. does anyone know if a aftermarket sunroof can be installed in a dakota quad cab, Probably some problem with the raised roof lines for rack.
2. Was told that the multispeed trans in my qc
had plastic gears in it and we qc owners are in for trouble. This guy was not a Brain surgeon by no means, but had herd this . I see no post on this. I told him it was the best shifting trans that I drove when shoppin for a new truck, beat all others hands down and that Hummers had synthetic gears in their trans and that his 305 chev prob still had the synthetic timing chain gear in it. My qc 4.7 auto 4x4 3.5

The 45RFE transmission has many modern features not found on other xmissions. But plastic gears is not one of them.
Think about it... what benifet would plastic gears have over steel ones?? This is NOT a place to save weight.
HAD TO ASK NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED

Find a dealer with a truck equipped (Engine/Drivetrain/Tire package)like you want it...4x4, T&H, 4.7/5.9, Auto/stick, 3.92, towing, etc..
Set up an appointment to "test Drive" it...
Then use your current trailoring rig to tow your trailer/horses to the dealership and when the salesman hands you the keys...Drive around and HOOK IT UP!!!! ...(Be sure to bring an X-tra 2" Draw-Bar and pin with the correct size ball!!!) and take it for a spin....I doubt a salesman wanting to make a sale will have any objections...
This idea throws another wrinkle when you are considering whether or not to buy a "DEMO" vehicle... I am a strong believer that the milage on a vehicle when you pick it up, whether its 5, 10, 100 , or 1000 miles, is the HARDEST and most NEGLECTFUL driving that the truck will ever see

The cc has a reputation of being underpowered, but the new supercharged engine has made a lot of friends. It also could be more prone to problems and takes that high dollar premium. I personally do not like an engine that gets its power at such a high rpm. To me that is too much outside the normal driving range.
final papers. That is, until I test drove it. I only drove the 5 speed model, because that was what I intended to purchase. The first thing that I noticed was that my feet (size 12 EEE) became entangled with each other due to the close proximity of the brake and clutch pedals. The sales person who rode with me remarked that the stick had more "punch" than the automatic. That really caused me to rethink the purchase because the 5 speed model was very marginal in the power area. I was actually worried about pulling my 5X8 heavy duty (15" wheels)utility trailer that is only used on occasionally. The rear passenger area was also a bit diminutive. I liked the look and style of the Nissan but it is difficult to find exactly the options and build that you want. The sales person handed me an excerpt from a test of the Nissan taken from a magazine. It also noted the lack of power, and at the end of the article it noted that if you were concerned with the marginal power offered by the Nissan, and wanted a smaller than full sized 4 door crew cab, to consider the new Dakota Quad with its available V-8 power. Obviously, Nissan has been getting the same feedback, hence the supercharged
version now offered. It is my belief that a supercharged or blown engine is not a suitable substitute for a naturally aspirated engine designed initially to provide greater power. The cost of operation and maintenance of a "blown" engine would not suit my needs for everyday reliability (mho). I was able to customize and special order my Quad, and it is just the way I like it, with no restrictions. I am extremely happy with my Quad and have absolutely no regrets. This truck suits my every need in terms of comfort, performance and room for others. Ultimately Brian, the choice is yours. I would suggest that you take any vehicle that you are considering for a test drive. Good luck.

noticing alot of black (brake?) dust on the
wheels(rims). Can anyone tell me if this is normal?
Will it harm the finish of the wheels?
(ie. discoloration?)
My dealer said this is normal and to just wash
them off regularly, but I have seen two vehicles,
one dakota and one durango, that have grey front
wheels and silver rear wheels. Just concerned.
Anyone have a similar experience?
Love the truck so far.....great package.
Thanks for the help.
R.
I have not had my truck all that long but it is no worse than any other vehicle I have had that had an open style of wheel. I never had it on my 70 Impala (closed wheels) but it was always on my 94 Blazer (spoke style wheels).
I found that Simple Green does a good job and is not such a harsh cleaner. I do rinse thoroughly though.

The rear window is tinted, it's just not the dark 'privacy' glass that you'll get with the slider. I heard from my dealer that the rear defroster is the same tint as the non-sliding window. I wouldn't sweat it unless you really wanted a defroster. You can get the window tinted aftermarket without a problem. As for the ad charges, you're not getting hosed. They're legit, and you're going to pay them. All dealers know that they're there, and when they negotiate the "xxx$ over invoice" price, they never mention it. Fact is, all the invoice information you get off the internet never includes advertising, so you walk in with a set price in mind, negotiate to pay 'xxx over invoice' and then the deal is made, little do you know that the invoice really does include about $400 worth of advertising. It's just the way it is. If you negotitate an out-the-door price and sign on it, then the dealer has an obligtion to give you that price, but if you just did the 'xxx over invoice' thing and ordered it, you're going to pay whatever the invoice is plus the agreed amount.
to buy off the bad publicity that it may generate.
It depends how your agreement of sale is written. Good luck.

The design of the 15" X 8" wheels cast aluminum wheels tends to be the worst. I see it mostly after driving in the rain... the black stuff seems to "grow" on the wheels in the rain. In reality, the dust has built up in unseen places andis washed onto the wheels in the rain.
I beleive there is a TSB about the brake dust and a warning that it WILL damages the wheels. Your Dealer is right-on about regular cleaning. Any auto parts store will have a selection of wheel cleaning brushes.
I have considerd the new CERAMIC brake pads that claim to produce much less dust. ($$$)
I ordered a rear slider back in '92 on my Chev 2500. I will never have another one. They leak, whine with wind noise, and are very easy to break into. That is not just the original; it was replaced with a high-quality unit over a year ago and still whistles at speed tho it does not leak. Unless you plan to have a camper or cap and NEED to communicate with the back (toss the Bud cans?), I suggest not paying for it. My 01 Quad was ordered without the thing and I'm very pleased. I live in central Texas where it got up to 112F this summer. The Q has a great A/C unit and that tinting doesn't really do all that much for temp reduction plus the cops really hate those windows and will approach you with much more suspicion since they cannot see who/what is inside. As for the defroster, if you live in really cold climes, I suppose it is good to have but you really don't NEED that window clear anyway; you have two, large side mirrors. Be SURE to put 3in, convex spot mirrors on BOTH of these as it is so easy to miss a cycle or even a car in the blind spots without the help/security/safety those spot mirrors give you.
Good luck and happy Quading ..... 2K on mine and not a SINGLE thing needing to go back to dealer for repair/adjust.
Ron-
I've been having a slow but persistent leak of transmission fluid from the tranny mated to the 4.7L V8 in my quad. Taken it in twice for reseating the pan gasket, tightening port plugs and such and by the third time the dealer infomed me that instaed of the band-aid approach they were going to install a new tranny. I'll let you all know how it performs after the surgery.
I've had absolutely no wind noise or whistling around the rear slider! Furthermore, it's been raining a lot here on the Gulf Coast; no leaks thus far.
As far as being secure, a thief can break ANY window on a vehicle; not just a rear slider. However, I'd bet the new rear sliders are cheaper to replace than a driver's window.
Bottom line, if you want a rear slider - get one.
and it makes for a nice airflow (quieter) when the windows are open (partially or completely). I must admit that it is somewhat awkward on the Quad
as it is practically impossible to open or close the slider from the front compartment. It was very easy on my regular cab trucks and a tad more difficult on the '95 Dakota Club cab. But Bill, like anything else it is a matter of choice. I have never experienced any air noises relegated to the slider, or leaking in rainstorms, but i'm reasonably certain that there are folks out there who have had problems with sliders. You really don't have to defend or "diss" the slider, simply have one or skip it. My dogs who rode in the cab thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. At least you and I agree.

I thought I saw a notice here of a number specific recall for 2000 QC's.Can one of you automotive wizards enlighten me?

Short answer... As I said they are pretty new to the shadetree mechanic.
Short answer... As I said they are pretty new to
the shadetree mechanic.
There is a gap of about 1/3 inch at the front and rear edges of the cover, (tailgate and front edge of the bed behind the cab).
It's been raining here for 3 days and today I checked and found the cargo bed to be slightly damp.
I suspected the leak was coming from either the front or rear edge of the cover. So, I dried everything and affixed a marine grade weather strip under the front and rear edges of the tonneau cover; ($1.99 for a big roll at Home Depot - very easy to apply - self-adhesive). However, later this afternoon, I checked and the bed was damp AGAIN at the front edge.
All things considered, I STILL recommend the folding, locking tonneau cover because it offers excellent security for your stuff. PLUS, if you and your friends/family go on a trip, you will need a secure place to put all of the luggage.
If you're going to be traveling in wet weather, just put your luggage in those huge Rubbermaid containers from Wal-Mart; OR, do like I do - use large plastic trash bags.
Oh, well, it IS a truck; gotta expect this kind of stuff.
thanks,
Dave.
PS - still experiencing the "hunt" and lag from 1 st to 2nd gear on my auto tranny after the truck's been sitting awhile and its cold.
When I have the heater selector in "feet" I still get some hot air out of the dash vents. This is very annoying as I do not want hot air on my face but do want it on my feet and legs. I've tried the combinations such as "defrost/feet" and the same thing happens. Before going to the dealer to have it checked, could anyone reply that THEIR Quad does the same? I prefer not to have the shop look into this unless necessary.
Thanx
Ron
Only problem was alarm system not working and that was fixed with a new dash module. Door ajar light burned out and again a new dash module.
I have noticed people taking about waxing thier trucks. I use nothing but Meguiar's products. No swirls anywhere. I also use an electric buffer.
i have posted pic on Clubs.Yahoo.com under truck dakota.
I fortunatly have not experienced problems with trans, bed, or door alignment. This truck has also brought many comments for all kinds of people. Ford and Nissan alike. Not to mention the comments from women.
The out day a woman was walking out of the mall and she and her daughter commented on how much they liked my truck. She then got in her husbands Intense Blue Quad. I quess they had words.
I am a bit concerned about getting swirls so I did it by hand, all in back and forth motions, no circles... The secret I found to removal was using small pieces of terry towel, turning it often to a fresh part of the towel to prevent streaking.
I'm happy, the Quad's happy.

Do I really need to address that?
ZIDCTLR- What you are asking is both illeagal and unethical and I doubt you will get any help from any of us in the Dakota Forums. I suggest you go elseware.
James, I have been waiting a lifetime for this
question to arise. Actually, there are two methods
used to stop or prevent the odometer from
registering miles.
1 Do not drive the vehicle, but you may transport
it upon a flatbed.
2 Use reverse gear to go everyplace. The downside
is a very stiff neck, and some really frightened
drivers surrounding you.
I wish that I could further help you James, but my
technical knowledge is somewhat limited.

Also (serious now)I think I remember you mentioning that you have large feet, Do you have a problem with scraping you foot on the connector bracket haging under the dash directly in lin with the clutch? I've already trashed a shoe on it.(bad planning?)
