As much as I hate to say it, I doubt we'll see NAV in the current-generation of either the Impreza or Forester. If that feature does show next year, it most likely will only be on the LL Bean Forester.

I do think NAV will show on on the all-new '08 models though.

    Really?

Subaru surprised us with a mid-year addition to the 5-pass Tribeca, why not the Forester? They already have the hardware in Japan.

    Just do it.

Well, I did say the most likely candidate would be the LL Bean Forester for '07. I think that could happen. I don't expect it on the Impreza till '08, at the earliest.

I don't think that would be announced at Miami or Detroit, however. I'd say NY for that.

My guess is, like last year, Miami will be nothing more than a "teaser" for what will debut at Detroit. It will be used to start building excitement and momentum for that show.

no need to wait for subaru to bring these

Ok, so what is the real announcement? :D

Facelifted B9? Or do we have to wait one more year for that?

Neat, but I really wish that model came with a battery of some sort.

A friend of mine bought a 2610 and likes it, but when I showed him my c320 he was SOOO jealous that I could yank mine out and still had 8 hours battery life.

How's the MP3 sound quality with an FM transmitter?

This is going in the right direction - integration is the next big buzz word.

But no moonroof, like the Legacy SE has.

Auto only, NAV, 6CD, and you get HAL (climate control).

Not ideal but at least NAV should be available under $30 grand now.

They gotta stop this auto-only nonsense.

  • bkaiser1bkaiser1 Member Posts: 464
Wow, for less than $1500 more than a base OB 2.5i (auto), you get nav, auto climate control, 6 disc CD, and body colored trim -- that sounds like quite a bargain! It's not uncommon for a navigation option *alone* to be $2000. Sure, I wish it was available with the manual transmission, but this is a step in the right direction.

Now, if Subaru could just wake up and get on the XM/Sirius bandwagon, they'd have me sold. It just boggles my mind that Subaru STILL hasn't begun to offer satellite radio, in spite of this desire to move up market. I absolutely will not buy another new car that does not have this feature built in to the factory system. Baby steps, Subaru!

    Where's you get the prices?

That's great. Definitely, NAV is usually $2 grand alone, though in most cases it comes with a better radio as well, so let's toss in the 6CD.

I don't particularly care for auto climate control, but I guess that goes with the territory. The rest is just gravy.

Garmin has that new unit with the XM built-in, plus it does XM Traffic like the Acura RL for real-time traffic re-routing.

I'm going by Joe Spitz's prices on his website...the difference between a 2.5i auto (CA spec) and 2.5 SE was $1486...not bad at all for the additional equipment.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Prices are on that site, just further down the page.

    Outback 2.5i SE automatic trans
    (new model available 11/05)

    Fed: $27,295 + $625 = $27,920
    Ca: $27,495 + $625 = $28,120

    juice and Bob,
Don't feel bad...I wasn't even there! The schoolboard announced that there would be no school last Thurs. and Fri. so we went to Sea World in Orlando for the weekend. We usually go to Disney, but we have not been at Sea World in 10 years. We had a great time ther, even though Michael wasn not allowed on Kraken; his arm is not yet fully healed; since Kraken is a floorless coaster, it would've been too much stress on the arm. I will post pics on the gallery this evening.

Glad to see they'll use Subaru to do designs for them and not just use up excess capacity at SIA!

I say it'll be the next Matrix. That model overlaps way too much with the Impreza, same size and all. Especially the AWD model. Question is, will that interfere with the Saab 9-2x? And what about FWD?

Plus, Toyota wants to use up the capacity at SIA, so maybe they'll do something Subaru could build there.

quote:<...will that interfere with the SAAB 9-2x?>

I think not, since the 9-2x is no more. With GM and FHI parting ways, all SAAB/Subaru joint projects are off.
  • dstew1dstew1 Member Posts: 275
With the larger redesign of the Rav4, and thus the Highlander's expected growth as well, hasn't there been speculation that the next Matrix might get some features that would slide it into the current Rav's soon-to-be-vacant slot? Increased ride height/ground clearance, more power to the AWD model, etc? Such a change would definitely fit into Subaru's design philosophy.

Also, this is pretty far out there, but the article only states it will "possibly" be a sporty subcompact. What if it's not? The Forester is looking at a complete overhaul soon. The Rav4 just got one. Strikes against this theory, admittedly, are the fact that in two years the design would already be too old to unveil as "new", and the upcoming Rav is too close in size and power (v6 model) to the Tribeca.

FJ Cruiser to replace the outgoing Baja? Yaris? Just interesting guesses.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
But they're still building a few of these. I wonder when that will stop.

Toyota would probably wait for the next-generation Impreza and try to differentiate it a bit more, anyway.

Ok, here is a wild one: an AWD boxer engine Tacoma with IRS, to replace the Baja.

    Why not?

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Could be...

Also, Subaru has no full-size sedan. The Avalon's wheelbase is bigger than the B9's, which might not be considered full-size in this market.

There is no AWD Avalon, so there would be zero overlap.

does anyone know if Subaru plans on using, for example, cylinder de-activation in the Tribeca to improve gas mileage?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Haven't heard anything about that, so I kind of doubt it.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think it's unlikely. Plus the Tribeca would not be a good candidate - it's not often that 1.5 liters' worth of engine could pull all that weight by itself, i.e. it would almost never engage.

Honda uses VCM on the Ody but it's not working as well as most people have hoped for, again because 3 cylinders are not usually enough to keep it moving. EPA highway cycle averages something like 50mph. But highways tend to flow at 70-75, so it's rarely deactivating the cylinders.

Ironically, it makes more sense on a V8, like the Hemi, because that still leaves 4 cylinders operating, which can handle the loads under more circumstances.

I seriously doubt Subaru will use this technology any time soon.

Honda is putting it in a FWD Pilot for 06. Not sure about the VTM-4 models. Subaru has full-time AWD so there is yet another reason why the system would activate even less often than the Ody's.

    thanks Bob.

Do you have something official on the Baja phase out?

    John
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
No I don't, just what was mentioned on that blog link.

Major bummer as far as I'm concerned, as I think the Baja could have evolved into someting really neat and useful. However, given FHI's need to start making some money, I can understand why they pulled the plug. Still sad though... :(

Totally hot. I'd buy one tomorrow. Honestly. It's a car that could replace both the Miata and the Forester, 2 into 1.

We'd still have the Legacy wagon.

  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
That looks like a rehashed LeBaron convertible. If they ever happen to develop a convertible, I think Subaru should focus on a Miata/S2K/Solstice scale convertible that woule be fun to drive, not a porker based on the Legacy platform.
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
I thought it looked like the Sebring convertible a bit. It is defintely nice looking though! The only complaint I have with convertibles is there is usually no room for any luggage.

Small convertible, maybe on the impreza platflorm, would be nice. Wasnt't that how Subaru showed the B9Scrambler a couple of years back? And didn't Juice and Brenda put in dibs for the first couple?

    Mark
  • rangnerrangner Member Posts: 336
yeah until somebody else wanted in and it became a three-some
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Brenda and I would share the concept car if we could. And yes, we're about half a country apart from each other. LOL

I need 4 seats, though. The kids love the convertible but I don't take them more than a few blocks in it. There is no passenger air bag, so that's OK, it's just not a lot of protection.

  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
There was a concept based on the old Impreza 2.5RS 2dr. Subaru.net used to have a gallery of concept cars that included it, but as far as I know they don't post that gallery anymore.

After agonizing for months between a B9, a Sienna and a Solara Convertible, test drives eventually put my crew in an AWD Sienna. But I searched the SE US just to find a Solara convertible to test drive....every one was sold before it got to a dealer! Likewise with the 05 Mustang GT convertible, and I already knew I didnt want one of those.I ended up test driving a used 05 Solara XLE convertible that was being traded in, and another couple actually bought it while I was out on the test drive!
The market for a well-built 4 passenger convertible with rear seat hip and leg room for adult HUMANS is very strong ( now if Subaru just made some more rear passenger foot room in the Legacy). Ford cant build Mustang convertibles fast enough. A Legacy ragtop would far outsell VW's Beetle Audi's A4 and Volvo's C-70 convertible models, combined.
Like Ken, I have found that a FXT with the moonroof wide open is a fun-to-drive substitute; admittedly, nobody turns to look as I pass...the aesthetic is not the same!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'd like to see one, but I wonder if Subaru could sell it at the right price point. The new Volvo will have a hard top, so will the VW Eos and the G6. A complex folding hard top plus AWD would price it way up there in the 30s, I fear.

I'd still like to see them try.
