I visited the Mecum site but I must be doing something wrong since I can't find the sale price listed anywhere. This one went through their Kissimmee auction this year. It also went through the 2022 version of that same auction, at which time it was advertised as having 5000 miles.

Flashing news!!!!

I'm highly disappointed in the claims handling by Geico for my Wife's Not-At-Fault collision (she got rear-ended in one of the last rains of the season). BIG NEWS!

Can't insurance companies handle a claim reasonably ONE TIME? Is that too much to ask? Why must every single claim result in bad faith?

Anyways, this time it's lack of communication or secrecy at play. No one told me the insured's company determined no coverage for the period/date of loss. They determined this 2 weeks before I was told.

Geico said that State Farm (at-fault insured company) should have copied/CC'd me on the legal letter denying coverage.

Should have, Could have , Would have. I never received a single word about no coverage until after Enterprise drummed up a nearly $1K rental bill for 19 days with a Rav4.

Back on the road:

Temps in the 80s, so it's a mere 98775645 degrees inside the car - windows down is mandatory. Car cranked a little slow at first as it has barely been driven in 2023, but cranked normal after driving a little, and ran as smooth as ever.

And the problem with the car was - nothing. I thought I had a brake leak - something dripped in the garage, and I saw fluid on the inner sidewall. The garage (who seemed to get along with the car just fine) inspected the wheels and braking system and found no faults. Fluid reservoir does not change, as I noted earlier. The garage did note slight residue of fluid on other inner sidewalls - apparently the tire shop who installed these tires (10 years ago) used some kind of lubricant, and it is seeping out. Not sure what was on the garage floor, I am sure it wasn't water, but it seems to have evaporated. Maybe something spilled when I was wiping down the car? I usually use a spray wax, and I treat the rockers as they are a paranoia area for me regarding rust. Either way, they gave the car a clean bill of roadworthiness, and had no problems giving it a routine service.

The little bit of seepage is coming from between the wheel and tire. Maybe the tires are filled with fluid rather than air? Seems like that would be a hard ride though

on the '30 Chrysler, I would rather have the Ranger the old guy is using to hold himself up.

I actually like the '56 Buick. Not sure why. Does not look like they molested it at all, just did basic upgrades to make it a usable car today. Could probably drive it anywhere as long as they refreshed/updated the brakes and steering too.

Everything thing works on the Cutlass except the radio. Must have a very good a/c without a belt on the compressor. Buyer beware!

I notice another similar era classic in the garage apparently belonging to the Chrysler guy. The plates on that car support the 1970 ownership story.

The 39 Stude is a pretty car. I like a bit of just-prewar material.

56 Buick restomod needs AC at least, I am not sure if I see it nor is it mentioned. I guess it could be more radical, but that common velour upholstery and the wheels don't do it any favors, 70s hot rod look IMO.

One of one. First of the "post squarebody" era. I dunno. I'm going to say mid-30s, but I get the feeling it went even higher than that. If it was the exact same truck, except a squarebody 88, It would fetch another 30% of whatever it sold for.

Which means a similar squarebody would be 6 figures.

For that money (or much less) I would rather have a pristine squarebody I could actually drive, or a pristine bullnose Ford for even less, or a 90s Dodge made to look like the Twister truck, or a Marty McFly replica Toyota, both of which would also cost far less and entertain me much more.

I still hope to have another fun car at some point, but it would have to be something I could drive on a regular basis. No desire for a garage queen/museum piece.

probably a lot more likely at this point that I got a newer fun car rather than a classic. Unless I actually retired and wanted to invest in a bunch of tools and a lift. And move to a different house with a bigger garage to fit it all!

No fun cars for me in the near future. I really like the VW Eos. It is the best of all worlds. A hardtop convertible with the benefit of a sunroof when the top is up. They are getting old now.
I think 2015 is the last year they were sold. Given the complexity of the top and other typical VW needs, that gives me pause.

Yes, I would think I would stay away from the Eos now.

While I was out earlier, I came up from behind on a convertible that had me stumped for a bit. Turned out to be a Nissan 350Z (or is it 370?) with the top down. From behind it looked strange - at first from a distance I thought it was a Solistice, then maybe a Porsche, but it looked oddly misshapen. It wasn't until I passed it that I IDed it.

There was a discussion about lighter color interiors recently, I don't recall which thread. I've had two cars with a white interior. I thought the darker blue dash along with a lighter color blue carpet which also was included on the interior door panels looked sharp.

Kind of looks like the parking brake is linked to the seatbelt receptacle.

White interiors seem to exist on some highline models today. The 79 Bird I posted a while back was an off-white interior with a blue dash, I think. My mom's big Bird also had white interior, I want to say the dash was dark grey.

For whatever reason the blue doesn’t seem to transfer too much on my interior. This is Volvo’s “white”. They call it Blonde

I can't tell on my PC what color that is exactly but it doesn't look white. However, it's not black or gray so at least that's a plus.

that is just like my Gremlin. same year, color, and X stripes and wheels. I just had a black bucket seat interior with 3 speed floor shift manual. and it was in vastly worse shape!

Best part of that Jag might be the seized Chevy V8.

Junkyard Diggs just did a video on getting a 74’ Gremlin going after sitting in a barn for 30+ years.

I’d love that 61’ Chrysler 300 but could never afford it.

The big fins would be really dated within a year of original purchase. Makes me think of fintails, where a handful soldiered on long enough on the production line to be counted as MY 1968 cars - by then the design looked quite old, and the modern replacement cars rubbed it in even more. Even by the time the 4cyl cars debuted for MY 1961, the design was about at the end of really being modern.
