It's interesting to see the different UTOG numbers. Mine are due for replacement at 40K. I'm strongly considering the Dunlop Sport A2.
William: I have Subaru wheel locks on my new LL Bean and my old Outback wagon, and they don't stick out much at all -- maybe 1/4" max. Is it possible you have the wrong locks?
Cheers Pat.
I've been lurking for quite a while and have read All the posts here (Mods) and the Legacy/Outback board. Quite impressed with the attitude and comradery amongst you folks. I hear real solutions, and people actually go out to their car and verify what others are talking about.
I've scoured the web for a Grill/Brush Guard for my 02 Outback and have had virtually no success. I did find 1 but after e-mailing the company for more info they said it is no longer available and will be pulling it from their site.

If you take a look I prefer the last one on the page PN:AM1041
Does anyone have another source for something like this? I've also tried to hunt down the company 'KORP' with no luck. I'd like to mount 2 Hella/KC's up front just like pic.
Also, Grahampeters (post 6713) mentioned a 'dual ratio gearbox' (low range).
Just how difficult would it be to install a nonUSA gearbox from say, Australia? I've done extensive work with 4x4's and the like but have not worked on AWD systems. Would you expect a different transmission and drivetrain or would it be just the addition of a transfer case?
Not 100% I'd want to torch my warranty but I'm interested.
Happy 2002 to you all, Thanks
Mike

There's a current thread on the i-club about it.

In reality, the gear reduction is only something like 17%, and the 2.5l has more than 17% more torque than the 2.0l, so the advantage isn't all that.

What problems have you heard with the self leveling suspension? Isn't it a self-contained system that uses forward motion to increase oil pressure in the struts? Leaks, perhaps?

I take delivery of the Outback this Sat. I expect to have the BullBar installed by spring thaw. I'll get back with you.
From the thread on i-club about dual range it sounds like adding it to a US Outback would be a good days work and voila. I'll keep an eye on the thread and will search the UK/Aussie sites for more info like price for unit etc. Maybe I can find a repair shop on another Continent that would be willing to help. :-}

Yes, paisan has one like I just descrived, with some wicked-bright fog lights mounted on them. Feels (and looks) like a tank.

"The simple ones that come up, around, and back down are cool looking, and seem useful."
I second that look/thought! I'm eyeing the Series 2 63mm in "Black Ripple"
The 47mm Nudge bar looks workable also.
Fear that Type 8 bar that looks like it wraps around the entire front end!
Looks alot like horned rimmed glasses. I guess if you're really bush wacking...
Thanks Paisan, Let me get it in the stable and figure out how to turn on the stereo...
Do you keep the lights covered? I've been pulled over for not having covers on a set of KC's before (I hadn't lit them for weeks). The cop let me off after clearly explaining that such lights needed to be covered while 'on road'. I'm such a criminal...
Thx - Mike
Craig
I sometimes keep em covered, I like to keep em covered but like to have em exposed often. They also have city ligts in them which are nice, 5watt bulbs in the bottom of the reflector thatI have linked to the parking lights. With the covers on them, they glow nicely but the covers don't have to be taken off.
The 130w bulbs in there are linked to my high beams so when I put on the high beams they come on. Very nice for flash to pass. Gives it a whole new meaning. My buddies call them the "god" lights cause it's like god telling them to get out of the way! The Eurobeam on the Hella 4000s is excellent, and they are adjustable with 2 knobs on the back of th elights for quick changes. I've had em on 1 year and no problems with them at all.

With the 16" Wheels, just how wide can I go on the Outback Wagon? TireRack will tell me what I already know: 225/60R16 but will 235 or 245 fit without rubbing? I'd like to make arrangements at the local tire shop to swap out my new tires (OEM-Bridgestones) with a better tire and a wider foot print.
Here's the catch, I pick up the car on Sat. so I need to make arrangements Friday afternoon.
245's might be too wide, just how deep are the wheels? 6.5"/7"?
Also, what brand/model would you recommend, I live in Detroit and desire all season tires. Speed ratings don't matter, I won't exceed 90mph very often...
(I recall seeing a discussion about the '02 tires etc. recently but can't remember the Discussion Heading it was under)
Thx - Mike
Cheers!

She could really use "god lights" too since she travels to work on Rt. 22.

Oh, I e-mailed you 'bout the Tri-State 48hr run.
-Dave
Also, do you have details about how these mount to the Outback?
thanks,

if you open those hood vents hot air will flow out, nothing will flow in. although MRT makes a scoop to force air in...

I am actually thinking of going back to the snorkus, after I saw my post-RallyCross panel filter :-O
-juice
Ed, do you have the snorkus-ectomy?
I have a stock airbox with an Amsoil and snorkus and got absolutely no sand (ok, maybe 2 or 3 grains).
Maybe it's because I was outrunning the sand. :-)
